Lawyers for Scarlett Johansson are demanding that OpenAI disclose how it developed an AI personal assistant voice that the actress says sounds uncannily similar to her own.
Johansson's legal team has sent OpenAI two letters asking the company to detail the process by which it developed a voice the tech company dubbed "Sky," Johansson's publicist told NPR in a revelation that has not been previously reported.

She rejected a most lucrative business, using her voice only, now that she is less young than in the early days of her career, most centered in her body. Luckily she is not the only sexy voice on the planet.

"Sky’s voice is not an imitation of Scarlett Johansson but belongs to a different professional actress using her own natural speaking voice. To protect their privacy, we cannot share the names of our voice talents."
This is suspect. Normally, voice talent is openly credited.. you know, so the artist can be recognized and get more work in the future.

The voice of Siri was not thus recognized for a long time. In fact, the only reason she found out is because a fellow voice actor thought Siri sounded like her.

It’s an independent person according to them.
What’s brutal about this is like it’s kinda like physical game media disappearing. The classic example being GTA:IV losing its iconic radio songs (at least for a while) because of licensing issues, or Alan Wake being unlisted as well. Playing a game with a different soundtrack years later is missing that connection to it.
In this case, since the very inception of sky and back-and-forth verbal communication, I’ve had many many conversations, especially while on a long walk alone about all sorts of things with custom GPT I created . And no, I’m not talking about dirty stuff. I’m talking about using ChatGPT with her voice as a way of bouncing ideas off and thinking in different directions, including mental health and addiction stuff.
Now that voice is gone and I had no control over its leaving…

Releasing it on the internet is going to get you sued - see the recent case when somebody made a show featuring the voice of George Carlin.
He is dead now, but his estate sued and won.
James Earl Jones licensed his Darth Vader voice to Disney for a yearly fee into perpetuity even when he passes away.
It seems you need to read up on how the law works around using a person's likeness for gain unless it is protected speech like parody purposes.

It is an AI voice trained on her voice - same thing - the thing is the law states that if people BELIEVE it to be her voice, then you have an issue.
There is a legal precedent for this when Ford used a voice over artist to impersonate Bette Midler in a commercial without her consent.
Think of rap/hip-hop sampling - Sting makes money every time they that play Puff Daddy/Mase song about Tupac.

@@tibbydudeza 1st unless ScarJo proves it is a clone of her voice, making such statements of fact is grounds for legal suit against you. Even ScarJo is not implicitly stated it is in fact a clone of her her voice and her legal team did not in fact send a cease and desist letter to my knowledge. In the US you have to prove guilt, NOT prove innocence. 2nd, in the case of Ford, it was using the phony likeness as an endorsement of their product and NOT identifying the public that it was NOT the actual person. That is HUGE difference to this Open AI situation. Open AI has publicly stated that it is not ScarJo and the AI voice is tamber and personality is not endorsing the product as a quasi sales person. 3rd sampling is an exact recorded copy of the original work. IF it is an actual clone of ScarJos voice OpenAI is wrong and should simply move on. If it is another sound a like woman I hope they fight it. If it is a clone, they should squash it but I hope they simply do a world wide casting call to find a near identical sound like and challenge it with the new woman taking an active role in the forefront calling out ScarJo directly suggesting she is preventing her another fellow woman from being herself and working. That would be a PR disaster for ScarJo.

Maybe the best approach is letting people upload a clip with the voice they fancy. Then, she cannot blame openAi. She would have to blame us all, that love her voice. And we can crowdfund to pay her ;-)

I don't know why they have taken this down. People can and do have similar voice styles. One other point, do you think it will be possible to turn the level of personality down when this feature becomes available? I enjoyed the demos but think that level of inflection will become very tedious when you are just asking a simple question expecting a simple answer.
