- My Wife brought me home a couple cool souvenirs from Paris France. A limited edition Opinel #8 with Snake Wood handle and a cool Tour de France Mug.

I love watching the cyclists climb those mountains every summer! And Opinel is so cool…great history to their story there! Great souvenirs! And I have that same Gondek hank!
Live the mountain stages. They were going 55 mph on some of the descents today.
No9 with Carbon blade and modified handle and blade to a drop point, is the best Opinel for me! I sand down the bottom of the handle, to make it rounder, then burn the handle and treat it with wax/oil mix. Then I file down the tip to a drop point shape, and lastly stick the blade inside a lemon for a day, to give it a cool looking patina, that will also help a bit with rust.
To keep the blade open and close smoothly, as also to maintain that action, I put ONLY 1 drop of thin oil inside the pivot and one more on the top, but I'm careful that oil, to not enter the locking mechanism. If you oil the colar too much, the locking mechanism may fail while using the knife. That's why I mentioned, ONLY 1 drop on the wood, avoid oiling the colar inside it.

Opinel is being looked down at, by EDC elitists. But Opinel will out-live any trendy EDC maker, 100%. It's a classic.

Being "a classic" doesn't make something the best, or even inherently good. Harley-Davidson proves that exceptionally well.
Saying "There's no English equivalent" then giving the English equivalent is peak pretentiousness.
Edit: Opinels are fantastic at turning one thing into two things, but they're awful EDC knives.

I don't recognize "congratulations on getting something new" as a common thing to say, therefore, it is not an actual equivalent in my opinion 😊
