Funny this was in a shop in Auburndale FL for a good while i remember it came in and immediately thought the back looked like a duck played it a few times sounded good and what not

Modifying a guitar to suit personal preferences is not 'ruining it', it is fine and many do this at a variety of different levels, from changing pups & tuners all the way up to major modifications … Guitars evolve this way.
Building a guitar to sound like a Gibson Les Paul and play like one is an inherently difficult objective … However, I do recommend that people do consider building their own guitars, especially if they want something uniquely personalised … Sound and playability of a hand-built guitar will be what it will be when you have finished ...
Stephen Ford I would argue that someone who could carry out the work on this guitar wouldn’t be overly troubled by building a guitar that feels like a les Paul, and as for the sound, you can buy Gibson pickups.
Fans of Gibsons are, basically by definition, people willing to pay a premium for the sake of things similar to other things made 50+ years ago. Not a criticism, just what we - and our weird decades-long obsession with 'classic' designs - are. So yeah, I would not be surprised by this community's collective conservativism, particularly in regard to electric guitars.
Weirdly enough, while I do agree with the general consensus that it's a mutilated Les Paul, I don't actually hate the design. If it was something I saw at a guitar store which some bottom-bin local Luthier had built from scratch, I probably wouldn't bat an eye at it, and would definitely like it a lot more than I do a ton of 'classic' designs (not to mention half of the insane metal designs out there) in that store.
That's one of the saddest things I've ever seen done to an instrument. This just shows you a new way to ruin a guitar.

Austin - I'm kind of thinking that, originally, this was a botched refinish. Probably not done by the seller. Whoever screwed it up took it to an "artist" wood-carving friend and looked to them for a bailout. NONROCKABLE. And here's why - I could almost accept the reworking, but, think about it - - with the normal pickup and electronics routing on a Les Paul, PLUS the idiotic cutaway mods, PLUS the "artistic" carvings out of the back of the guitar... Wouldn't that lack of a body really effect the sustain, sound and stable structure of the guitar itself? I'd be afraid to put the thing in the case wrong? SNAP!! Does it come with a case? Also...is that a Buckethead Tele behind you???
The difference between earning money for a Les Paul and someone buying you a Les Paul . Nobody that worked their ass off for a Les Paul could possibly do this, right ? The other possibility is a Crystal Meth Tweaker with wood working tools. Reverb should interview this individual.
