Haha, thanks! Large scale allows you to go that extra step further, so although the Sherman E8 from last year was also muddy, the result was more simplistic due to it being 1/48th scale.
U are such a good modeler. I also model and i am 12 years old. Your video's really help me advance in my modeling and teach me new skills to do better on each of my kits. Keep up the good work.
Yup nightshift Is probably the best and my favorite modeler.and on all the pages that's all everyone talks about and the references they give are always a night shift video. He's pretty damn awesome! My fav!
Amazing and inspirational as usual. You've made me realise that my own models are half-finished at best when it comes to mud-weathering. This has motivated me to up my game! Many thanks.
I just want to point out quick. Having multiple different layers of different dry and wet muds is extremely realistic especially for dioramas with one or two crew members out of the tank. "Hurry up and wait" is a military constant. You will be stopped long enough to watch your 12t vehicle start to dry off.
I wanted to give you a big THANK YOU, a LOT, for this new content and quality of your new video. I particularly enjoy weathering steps when I do scale modeling, your tips and advices are “just” there, very helpful. I say “just” because the video are less than 20min, fluent, fun and with great sound + video quality, but I know how muuuuuuuch time it is to make a 20min videos, so big up. One suggestion regarding your video content is: what do you think on making a video on the huge scope of varnishing? It’s one of the most discussed but not clearer topic regarding steps. When to apply varnish coats, like before/after, color variation impacts, filters/washes/painting steps/chipping liquid, etc. It could be a huge and interesting topic to share on (even if of course, there is a tone of techniques). Maybe I missed some advices on your videos and it’s already exist 😅
Hands down.. you do some of the best dirt/mud weathering ive ever seen. I'm building a Russian IS-2 Heavy that i'll be using these techniques on.. thanks for the help!
Yes i used that Panzer Aces dark rust exclusively as a base for mufflers and exhaust then dry brush Mr.Hobby burnt iron plus a sprinkle of rust pigment.
I have to admit, the Night Shift patreon pays off compared to most. He does indeed post as much as he says, to the point that I get behind in checking updates. Definitely an easy option to chip in towards.
Sterling work, as usual, Martin. Even your experimental "failures" are usually stunning. This particular tank has some hydraulic pistons in its suspension. There should be a bare (clean) area at the upper part of the inside cylinder. Compression of the unit would cause the upper cylinder to constantly wipe the inner cylinder clean over the range of travel. In actual use, there might be a portion (lower on the inner cylinder) that is just not as dirty as the rest, and then an upper portion that is clean or nearly so, to simulate different ranges of travel at different times, with the longer range of travel happening earlier, followed by lesser travel later. I have seen this on actual armored vehicles in the field. More work, I know. But artists must suffer for their art.
I couldn't help noticing the markings were from the 3 Battallion of the 32 Armored regiment. I was in the 2nd Battalion of the 32nd. It is also the Battalion commanders tank (A-6), Nicely done!
Thanks for another great video on mud and dirt! I really appreciate the use of different products since the Wilder products are sadly not available in Central Europe for over half a year now. You mentioned in an older video that you don't use the classic yellow dish sponges for chipping but found something better. Can you do a quick mention again of that sponge again, I get a hang of sponge chipping very slow and appreciate every trick and tipp out there.
I had hopes for really glossy, reflective wet parts on the lower hull :P This semigloss is welcome too, of course, as it modulates the otherwise almost boringly dull surfaces :D
I liked seeing your mud technique. You should try doing a American Tank given to Brazil! We have red earth to the south, i love seeing the Americans M41's olive drab all painted with red earth.
It's crazy to see you work man. Incredible. And I can learn so much. Sadly I mostly suffer from wanting to try everything at once xD Getting overwhelmed by how much color there is , pigments, techniques etc. Sometimes I just sit infront of my model thinking : what the hell am I going to do now ?!? xD
In that case you might create your own to-do list with each technique you want to try and in which order you want to apply it... and just do it one by one :)

Hey uncle nightshift, did you ever try making or adding a camouflage net to one of your vehicles ? Especially with the more modern combat vehicles with a scenic base or diorama, i am sure it would add a lot to the overall result and project 👌😊 hope you could make that happen on one of your future projects. Keep up the great work 👍
What do you think about painting a snowy model? Doesn't really matter what tank, but it would be really interesting to see snow effects, it melting from warm surfaces like engine covers and gun barrels. Then like muddy snow/slush on the tracks as a the tank has travelled where the snow has melted.
I briefly covered this concept in the tiny StuG III vignette which I posted on Christmas, but due to the small scale there wasn't enough room to create all the effects you mentioned :) But I'll do that at some point.

You can mix nice olive drab with black and yellow. If you add white to it, the faded colors can be achieved too I think.
