I built one of these couple years ago. Body was made by locke scanned using a real 80's pacer and neck I had custom made by musikraft with jumbo stainless frets, wheel adjustment truss rod. Also used a 1984 floyd rose and a evh frankenstein pup. Cost me about $1100 to build but I love it. It's really about the only guitar I play anymore

Love EVH Wolfgangs, had a few over the years and currently own two inc the kill switch EVH signature USA model. Designed by Ed and painstakingly road tested unlike the endorsed Kramer Baretta 5150 model. Build, feel and sound are fantastic. He played the white and black models on the last tours and were in his mind the evolution of all his years work. 🎸 👑

I've given serious thought to getting one of these and replacing the neck with a Musikraft replica of the original 5150 neck...just to have the headstock "dead-on." Haven't done it as of yet...but the temptation is STRONG! ✊

Eddie had a hugh set off eye by making the best guitar for how he wanted to look and sound! This legasy is what he left, a hugh piece off rock! Miss you man ❤
That is my favorite evh striped series guitar also I've made 2 of them so far but I would love to own one of those , and I LOVE live without a net I was there for the concert it was awesome , thanks for sharing
Hey Marty, those 5150's are great guitars! Although I did buy new, I don't regret that decision. I screwed a 1984 quarter to the body similar to Frankie. I did this in honor of the 1984 album and fell in love with this guitar in the Hot For Teacher video. I was floored by how Eddie walked across the tables during the solo. I also put eyelets in for the strap, as well as a FR 1984 trem, no D-Tuna (those are a pita for as little as I want to use them). I too like this over the WG ones. The neck is a tad wider and feels just right in comparison. The pickup is better too. It's a close second to my favorite, as 2013 MM Axis.

Crop circles is my favorite VH guitar. I really like the star with the dano head stock and white and black stripes. It’s not his most iconic guitars but my favorite Dime guitar is the concrete sledge or the dime slime. I guess I think I could make those guitars mine where as the Frankie and Dean from Hell are linked in the ether to Edward and Dime. Definitely cool that we can get versions at almost all price points of our heroes back in the day they were all out of reach back when a Les Paul standard was a thousand dollars and a thousand might as well have been a million as far as I was concerned.
Myself I really can see where Eddie was going with the Axis and the Wolfgangs. I'm a Les Paul guy and the Wolfgangs feel very similar to a Les Paul in the length because he moved the neck on the Wolfgang further back in the body.
I had this guitar had a terrible setup the action was sky high I had to shim the neck to get the action were I like it there gorgeous guitars congrats😊

Wow! Congratulations Marty! How does the EVH 5150 neck feel compared to your early 90s Music Man? I've played one of these at a mom and pop shop in Ohio. She was going to let me have it new for $1300 out the door cash sale and she was going to throw in an EVH hardshell case. I didn't do it, I really wanted the authentic Kramer headstock. @Marty5150, When you get a brand new guitar do you check the necks straightness before messing with the action? I ask because "Most" new guitars these days do ship with a good action but the neck needs straightening. I found when I ubox a guitar that was shipped from across the states the action feels high until i tweak the truss rod.
I sort of do that. I push the low e string down to touch the 12th fret and look for irregular higher action around the 5-7 fret. If it's too high compared to everywhere else I know the neck needs to be cranked a tad tighter. And then I lower the bridge a tad on each side little by little if needed and get it dialed in real low and no buzzing. Or fretting out when bending around the 15-20th frets
I had "hooks" on my 79' Les Paul Custom. Damn thing was so heavy that I actually sheered a Strap-lok and dropped it on the plug-in jack and bent the plate. Strap-loks are over rated. That said, I use the Jim Dunlop strap locks on my Jeff Beck sig Strat. These I love becuase they are like inserts that actually go into the the peg, a longer insert, and lock. I have never dropped this guitar and highly reccomend the Jim Dunlop strap locks.
Hey there, you stated that you lowered the action by tightening the truss rod? I was always under the assumption that one would adjust the two post screws down or up for string height adjustment. I haven't really heard of adjusting string height via the truss rod other than a very minute amount for lowering/raising the strings. Could you clarify. I'm guessing intonation was off as well, especially if you tweaked the neck. I'm thinking of purchasing this guitar, but have heard that they are arriving in terrible condition regarding playability. That's what has been keeping me from purchasing this guitar. Thx any suggestions you may have..
Hey @Marty5150, question for you. I’ve also been looking for one of these 5150 striped series. My local GC ‘has” a used one, but it’s a fake of some kind. It has the normal Fender headstock, is glossy and the 5150 appears to be stickers added to the body after painting. I love the Frankenstein, but I also prefer the painted hockey stick Kramer headstock and I suspect that someone managed to get the entry-level model, add stickers and then trade it into GC for more than they paid for it. It’s essentially new. I wonder if you can confirm that the real 5150 model like this has a matte finish and also, what about the 5150 - is it painted or stickers, can you physically feel/remove them and do they seem to be under the clear coat? Even though I prefer this model, I’m considering trying to get this when it hopefully and inevitably falls well below $999. Right now they want like $1200. I told the guy in store that it was faked and he said he agreed, but wasn’t sure which parts were from what. Do you notice any significant difference in quality between the lowest end striped Franky and this one (also the relic’ed Frankenstein)?
Hey Marty if I can ask. Are you a studio musician, I assume your in a band, but is it a VH tribute band? How did you get started in guitar, was your family musicians?
I've done plenty of studio sessions many years ago but no longer pursue that other than my own studio work. I am not currently in an active band that plays a lot... mostly a hired gun now. Ive got two of my most recent albums on Apple Music, Spotify and UA-cam. Check out Snow Black Sunday and Dead Hollywood Stuntmen for my last band projects. I started when I was 15 in 1985 and fell heavily into the Beatles, Van Halen and really all the popular pop and rock bands that were putting out hits. Played in a lot of bands. Went to music school. Graduated and moved to Nashville in 1992. I've had a few bands and done about 7 records. And also about 5 instrumental albums. I toured for years with slippery when wet which is a Bon Jovi tribute project I helped start in 2004. They're still active and good friends to this day. I still play out from time to time and have some smaller projects I work with in the side for charting and performances. I also teac lessons. Always busy!!

Also served without a Fender case and those Charvel keys, showing off the only two springs into the back panel. You play almost every single black note that Eddy played. Misconceptions, I guess it was Kirk's black and yellow Jackson the most controversial, but that's the thing, the other is now the Strat american series II prototype. I don't know. Namastè.
He stated he had two versions of this guitar... his main player had 1 star and his backup had 2 stars on the headstock.... and you can see ... by researching.
Watched a guy paint and build one... I tod him bc he had two stars. He built the backup version... not sure he liked me telling him that... I told him it's was a good reason to build another one.

I bought two peavey wolfgang... 1 of 13 ... and a 1 off... I own lots of current EVh maker and the American... Peavey is so much better. Next year music man.

I have the Frankenstein. Honestly, it’s one of the better necks EVH makes out there. I had a 5150 custom-made by CHS. I absolutely love it.

I have the same 5150 noticing some yellowing in the white stripes, same in yours??
No yellowing yet. It's still really white. We will see over time!
