On my website, there is lots of info on brushes, rollers, scrapers and more content added each week. Also, I think you will find the short video tutorials (more coming) packed with tricks of the trade that I can guarantee will help you become a much better diy home painter.
I show you how I treat a water stain so you can paint over it with out it bleeding through your new coat of paint.
Knowing what to use is the trick here. There are many different brands and they will all do the same thing. Just make sure it's 'shellac' based or cleans up with metholated spirits or rubbing alcohol. Easy peasy!

Im in my first house and am new to DIY and painting and as you said people would have, I've been painting over the water mark with new layers everyday with no success. Today I have got some of the spray and the stain has instantly been painted over! Thank you very much for taking the time to share your knowledge with newbies like me!

After my Transportable Home, was recently damaged by smoke, I wasn't too sure if I could fix it all by myself. After watching this, I have decided to give it a go. Excellent Video... Full of Encouragement. Watching men work, makes it looks easy, one of the best videos I've watched so far. Thank you for your experience and knowledge.

VERY HELPFUL TO ME, I had a few spots on my wall, my pain is a very light crème and I watched your video and learned wow, the paint won't cover the stains. I sprayed this first and it does cover the stains, then I stippled the paint with a paper towel over the stain. I learned that painter's trick from another painter on you tube. I am so thankful for you.

Thank you very much for your sharing. I do the same as you had said. The water stain on my bathroom ceiling disappeared. You’re my great helper. Appreciate sharing of your experiences on UA-cam. Follow up: Actually I had sprayed that Zinsser BIN for 4 to 5 layers over prior to water based flat white ceiling paint. More than 2 layers there!

if you have a water stain coming through say on a wall , ceiling wipe down .let the stain dry out then paint over with oil based undercoat ( thin it a bit with some meths , then apply over the stain area ( ensure you paint bigger area than Stain , let that dry ….then use the water based original emulsion over .
Simples or you can buy the expensive stain blocker

Bin is a great product but you do not want to rely on a painters blanket below to catch any of the mist that falls while you are painting. It will go right through to your floors make sure you use a vinyl backed blanket or a tarp.

I am a painter and on 2 occasions I had little white specs under the blanket when I removed them. Bought my blankets from a Benjamin Moore paint store in Toronto Canada, not familiar with American Brands but what this shop carried was Canadian brands that were made in China. And they were fairly priced. Still cannot figure out how I had numerous tiny specs on the clients floor. When I looked at the top of the blanket there was no trace of bins.

      @RickBushell1958  4 роки тому

Hi Marshal, unless you have the original can of paint, there is no way of knowing. However, not all is lost. :) If you're simply wanting to treat and 'touch-up' it's not really going to work. It will look a lot better, but without matching the existing paint color, it won't work. Is there an issue of repainting the entire ceiling once treated? That's how I would do it.

The Kilz is oil based can you paint over it with a water based latex paint? One other question should I give the ceiling about 2 weeks to dry out......in my case it's a very small area of stain.

The stain killer is shellac based and yes, you can paint over it with water base. I never had an issue in the 40 years I used it. To let it dry for 2 weeks, I.m not sure of, it's dry when it's dry Good luck:)

Hi. I think all water-damaged ceiling part needs to be cut out and replaced with new Sheetrock/plaster? Painting over stain can cause mold issue. Did you do anything to treat mold before painting? Thanks!

It depends on how bad the water damage is. For a lot of people, it will only be a stain, the strength integrity in the gyprock is still good in most cases. And yea, sometimes I treat the stain with a wipe of bleach, not always as was this case. I'm sitting under that very spot atm.
All good after all these years. Thanks for commenting

Best thing to do is cut it out and re plasterboard it to stop wicking and mold spread. You can only see the surface, not the back side, so how do we know what's really going on? In my 30 years experience just painting over never works in the long run. And I've tried all the brands.

Helterskelter4 your long run is different than mine. The particular job in the video is my house. Still looks good. No issues. That and over 40 years, never g

I have a question about kilz oil based primer/sealer? I have been using this for my new house to cover wallpaper. We will then spray homax knockdown and texture after which dries we will be painting it. We have torn and smoothed the loose parts of the wallpaper as well. My question is in regards to what you were saying about stains/mold on walls. As long as I use the damp rag and get the surface clear and white again then put kilz...should the wall be good for painting? I’m trying to avoid replacing/repairing any drywall if possible.

very brave going over wallpaper. Hope some places don't come loose. I remember quite a few times we painted over wallpaper but we first coated it with B.I.N (a zinsser product) and it worked quite well. Like you, we checked intire wall for any areas needing attention. However, I always preferred to remove the paper. Easy when you know the tricks, (don't need a steamer). Good luck mate

On this video, the product was used over a water base (latex) paint. No problem.
