Blue-eyed Soul...1964.....these two men CREATED that concept.....They were given their name by Black men in a club they played down South...who proclaimed them "Righteous, Brothers!" Not real brothers....Bobby Hatfield is the shorter, blonde guy (RIP) and Bil Medley is the taller, deep-voiced one. Thanks for your reaction! Love you!

Great music for the ages. They were incredible. Bill--Sweet Thunder--Bobby, the Blonde Bomber. Bobby left us in November 2003, 8 months after their induction into the RnR hall of fame. That was the last performance I saw from Bobby. He was 63. Bill is now 80, as Bobby would be, and is still performing. Bill Medley: “At that time, Orange County was about the whitest place in the country. There were black Marines from El Toro Marine base that heard there were these two guys singing rhythm and blues. So, they came to hear us. They had their own way of talking. If white guys liked something, they’d say ‘That’s cool’ or ‘bitchin.’’ A black guy would say, ‘That’s righteous.’ If they liked you as a friend, they’d call you ‘brother,’” explained Medley. “I think it was Bobby who said, ‘What about the name the Marines have been callin’ us, the black guys. How about the Righteous Brothers?’ I said, ‘Oh man, I would love that.’ That was it-we put it on the record. The black Marines from El Toro Marine base named us.”

“The Righteous Brothers” are considered by most to be the Greatest Male Vocal Duet Of All Time. I agree. Between Bill Medley’s Lows and Bobby Hatfield’s Highs they can hit every note on an 88 key piano. No other male singers can do that. Legendary.
“You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin” was the most played song on radio in the 20th Century.
"Unchained Melody" - Bobby Hatfield Live 1965. Considered by most as The Greatest Live Male Vocal Performance In History... I agree. Bobby's use of "Runs" is brilliant. He is the master of the technique and started the trend. 7 notes just to say the word "I".... Their name came when they did a show in a smaller venue and a black man told them…. You two Brothers are Righteous.
In 1983, in Newport Beach O.C. Calif. Bill and Bobby at the Jolly Roger Restaurant . I was 13 feet away for... "Unchained Melody"- "You've Lost That Lovin’ Feelin‘" - "Soul And Inspiration".... They were perfect, awesome, amazing, incredible......

Dub, when this came out NO ONE had heard anything like it. An emotional balled sung in the style of black R&B and lead by a base baritone. Full orchestral background (the Wall of Sound). It is actually in the Library of Congress as a song that made a major impact on American music. The ‘brothers’ had been singing Rock n roll for three years before Phil Specter took them on and had this written for them … that break down at the end was pure Righteous Brothers… the way they had always sung before. And they continued to do hard rock in their later careers because it was their roots. They were still performing together in 2003 when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

The quintessential version by Bobby Hatfield ; the little shy lip-bite that gauged how much his parent's response meant to him has been proven to be utterly immaterial in scope by the overwhelming hell- yeahs by millions of listeners in the decades since.

These guys were originally called "The Paramores" but in those days, there were black clubs and white clubs, and people in the black clubs thought that this was a black group, and people would say "Play them Righteous Brothers again", and the name stuck. For the recording session of Unchained melody, Bill Medley was stuck in traffic, so they decided to lay down Bobby Hatfield's track first. When Bill heard it, he refused to record his parts, because he said that it was perfect just the way it was. He later joked that he never thought that it would be a hit, and that he's been kicking himself ever since.

Both do solos and Bobby Hatfield's signature song is Unchained Melody performed live on the Andy William show in 1965--I have to say this is the greatest live performance I have ever seen--and I'm 77 --and I still appreciate classics like these. What I can add is that when I lived in Las Vegas in the mid-1990s, these guys were regulars there, and I got to see them live on several occasions. Even 30 years after the big hits, they were STILL absolutely outstanding singers, and put on one of the best shows I have ever seen. This song was the most requested and played song on radio and TV in the 20th century, and was a MASSIVE hit.
