I have just discovered your channel looking for wooden planks and oh my god these are the most beautiful wooden planks. Please come back to making cool planks you have a whole audience waiting for you.
I love your videos and the quality and down home feel that you inspire in your journey on the making of these exquisite boards. There are several people that I follow but none of those people lure you in like you could sit out there relax have a cup of coffee go to the shop and enjoy a day of dust. I look forward to your videos, keep up the good work.
Thanks Matt! The barn/shop has been a great place to dig through some new ideas and kick up some sawdust! I often wonder how may different ways can you make cutting boards elegant and interesting, and I think there is no end...... so the journey continues. 🙌
This is the 2nd of your video's I've watched so far. I like the way you spend the time to make a simple cutting board into a work of art. So many are all about just slamming one together and explain how you can make money by selling it. You, on the other hand show us the "hows" & "whys" of designing a piece of useful art. I thank you for that.
This is amazing. Your designs are well thought out and you can tell you take great pride in your work. Would you happen to have plans or an instructional video on how you made you’re flattening jig ?
I love your workshop and the fact it's out in the woods. I get the same feeling when you opened your workshop doors as when I would watch falling snow from my couch, all warm and comfy and with a nice cup of coffee/cocoa. Could you answer this: how much does wood move in an end grain board? Thickness should be mostly constant, but there are so many layers to this and I'm interested how much do length and width change.
Hey brother are you still woodworking? Have to say your videos really inspired my motivation to work with walnut cutting boards. Just curious where you went.
Flawless, absolutely flawless! I think your technique here is THE BEST I've ever seen. I LOVE your grips on the side, meaning you can use both sides equally! You are a true cutting board MASTER!🤜🤛👌👍❤❤❤😁😁
I think the hardest part with this build is finding the right piece of wood, once you have that its smooth sailing! I hope you give it a try, let me know how it turns out.
I am always trying to think of new ways to make interesting designs, and this board layout is one of my favorites. Happy to share the process with you 🙌
I enjoy the look of single species boards, sapwood is a great way to add contrast. As an alternative design you could run the sapwood down the middle, Happy sawdust making!
I want to thank you for sharing your talent with us. You have inspired me to try my hand at making my own creations. Your boards are by far the best i have seen out there. I think i have watched some of your board builds many times, each time learning something new. I know its probably something not usual to your channel, but would you possibly make a video how to make your flattening jig? I am relatively new to woodworking, and would welcome any tips to making one. Thanks again for sharing work with us
Thanks for the kind words and feedback! I try to find the designs in what nature provides, extenuating the grain/colors and coming up with abstract is a lot of fun. I've had a lot of request on the flatting jig, so I think it might just be time to make that video soon!
I really enjoy your videos and appreciate you sharing your techniques. What is your opinion about using Ash in cutting boards? Especially end grain boards. I have plenty left from my furniture projects and was considering making cutting boards out of it. Thanks
Fantastic board! Could you please tell me what size bit you prefer for the juice grove and what size bit you use for finger grabs? Many thanks for sharing your tips
I use a 1/2 inch bit for the finger holds, and I only make this style on boards that are 2 inches thick or thicker. I believe the juice groove bit is 1/4.
I just found your site and am amazed at your creativity. I am slowly watching each video I noticed that there wasn't anything like the one in header of your page. Could you give more info on it or maybe a video on it? Anyway, thanks for sharing.
That Board was made from Elm, Which I haven't been able to source since that build. I am always on the lookout for it and If I do find some I'll be sure to make another one.
Each species of wood has its own unique properties and can cause health issues of different degrees, the key is to always were a mask when sawdust is in the air and invest in as much dust collection as you can.
Hey, 10:13 I watched your walnut end grain video. It was great and love your designs. What kind of a bit did you use to cut out the finger holds on the side of the board?
What grit do you like to keep on the drum sander before glue ups? I have my drum sander coming in two weeks and trying to learn about their capabilities.
Amazing work! Just recently came across your channel and subscribed after just a few minutes. Watching your design process is really inspiring. The care you put in the project is incredible and the results show that. Looking forward to seeing your channel grow!
Thanks and welcome! I really enjoy sharing my build process with everyone, Endgrain cutting boards will certainly give you a workout but its a worthy endeavor. I appreciate the support!
If the wood is dried properly, the moisture should be consistent throughout the sapwood and heartwood. The heartwood may be a touch harder but if your working with hardwoods, using sapwood its not going to be an issue.
Hi, I really like your work. What do you shoot for as an original thickness and a final thickness. Thanks again, your videos are great learning tools and just a lot of fun, Any problems with shrinkage due to the change in seasons? Is your shop heated? Thanks again.
I usually start with 5/4 or 4/4 material but sometimes 8/4. Most of my boards end up being 1.75" or 2 inches thick. My shop isn't heated, its something I've been trying to find a good solution for. I keep a moisture meter close by 🙌
Thank you for another wonderful video! I always wanted make contrast sapwood but didn't know how to make them! Great inspiration👏 oh by the way, are you full time woodworker?
I happy to hear the video was helpful, I often wonder if sapwood/heartwood contrast talk really makes any sense, lol. Throughout the past two years I was strictly woodworking for a living, right now I am doing more custom work and have a few other side gigs.
I have a question. Why do my glue joints raise slightly after I spray with water towards the end of my sanding cycle? On my end grain cutting boards. 180 and above. I thought you may know. Thank You.
I've been making cutting boards to make a little extra money, haven't sold any yet, trying to get about 20 then sell. In your experience, is it a good way to make some money, do people buy them?
For me It's been an excellent creative outlet, and also has a monetary benefit. I started selling on Etsy which was a great stepping stone to creating my own website. There's a big learning curve to the whole thing, just build from the heart and the rest will follow. All the best!! 🦾
Do you have the issue that after you raise the grain with water and do a final sand, oil and wax...that after the first few uses, the board gets fuzzy again? is there any way to keep it smoother for longer? or is just the fact that its getting wet, the grain will raise
Try raising the grain a second time, then add your oil and wax. I don't normally have this issue come up, but if it did I would use a fine steel wool pad and wax and smooth the board back out.
I sure do miss your videos.

Binge watching your vids for the last 2hrs. Gotta say I absolutely love your work, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️..!
Certainly do appreciate the kind words..!
Are you going to make more videos? I love watching your work.
Great video! What grit do you use at 4:36? Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful results. If there were only a tutorial showing work like this with minimal power tools.
Your right. Those look like very nice boards.
Really cool way to accent the grain, simple and genius as all of the best things in life are
The WoodPlank; still working his magic!
"The Great Jacobini" 🤹
That looks beautiful. I wouldn’t have thought it would come out like that when you first chose the wood. Wow!
Смотрю с удовольствием. Глаз радует Ваша работа

Really enjoy your work. But I really enjoy your intro. Fantastic! Keep it up,please.
I love this design, I’m going to have to try it myself.

What a fantastic job
Beautiful board
What a beautiful board! Could you tell me about your hot wax process? And the formula of beeswax and mineral oil? Thank you!
These boards are simply beatiful. Very nice work and so nice to watch the process!
I am always trying to think of new ways to make interesting designs, and this board layout is one of my favorites. Happy to share the process with you 🙌
That came out beautifully! So well planned and executed.
Great looking cutting board. You inspired me to do the walnut and Padauk and it turned out great! 🤙🏿
Thats awesome!! There's so many possibilities with that layout 🦾
Those are quite beautiful. You do very nice work. You inspire me to give this a try.

Another great video! Are the boards 3/4 or 4/4 at the start?
Why no more post? love your videos!!!
Have you done a video on how you made your flattening sled?
Hopefully soon, it's been on my short list of videos to get done.
Great vidio
Another awesome video, thanks for sharing 👍
Can i ask please, what bit do you use in the router for flattening in boards with the sled?
Regards

love it, great job
Well done.
Thanks!!!
Another great one!!!
Are there any types of woood that you would not use for health reasons?

Nice work! The sapwood is supposed to have more moisture and also is softer than heartwood. Doesn’t this compromise the longevity of the board ?
If the wood is dried properly, the moisture should be consistent throughout the sapwood and heartwood. The heartwood may be a touch harder but if your working with hardwoods, using sapwood its not going to be an issue.

👍 board!!! Классные доски у тебя получаются, молодец 🤝!!!
Thanks! 🙌
How long are the initial boards you glued up?
What is your opinion on the Supermax drum sander you use?
I have no complaints at all, one of the most used and most important tools in the shop, especially for making endgrain boards. Highly recommend it!
Are the clamps used in glue-up 36 inch?

I was thinking the same thing.

🙌 Thanks my friend!!
2 months was too long to wait haha
😁
God, I hate when people add those tacky juice grooves. Solid work, nonetheless.
