It would be nice to show the process of making an end grain cutting board with limited equipment, perhaps equipment sold at your stores. Not many people have access to a $50,000 sliding table saw or a $10,000 drum sander.
Hello, for the first time, we made a mistake and did not know much about wooden cutting boards, so we purchased a John Booth cutting board from the Williams Sonoma website. The cutting board was wrapped in a layer of plastic in the box, and the oil was moving around and damaging it. The problem is that the packaging is poor, and the cutting board surface is completely covered in dead skin cells. If you wash it with water, clean it with baking soda, dry it, and apply oil, dead skin cells will form and the surface will become rough. Is this correct? It's not because you don't know, right?
It is not covered in dead skin cells that you can see. If you are seeing a white film on type that is excess oil and or wax that is drying/curing on the surface. Just wipe it well with water and let it dry overnight. If it feels rough the next day that is the fault of the builder because they didn't raise the wood grain first before the final sanding. Unless you have an orbital sander, I would just return it. It sounds like a poor quality cutting board.
Using free plans online you can build your own shop machines. I built a thickness sander and a very good edge sander for about 1/4 of the cost of retail machines. It just takes a little time and attention to detail.
Don't worry about bacteria, soap and and sponge takes care of all that junk. The cutting board should last multiple generations. Don't ever use a serrated knife ever in your life. Learn how to sharpen a kife takes 30 seconds for razor sharp edge.
It always amazes me how good woodworkers keep everything so clean and neat...meanwhile I have glue all over my hands and tools all over the place.
Nic si z toho nedělej, já to mám stejný
Very nice work on the block. Also, fantastic camera setup, video editing, audio mixing, and music. Top notch production.
great presentation...simply explained, no gimmicky add ons, and best of all, Ill be heading down to shop tomorrow to build one......thanks.....
Thanks for the Video David, I enjoyed the professional tips.

Stop whining and figure it out
Can you use a hand planer if you don’t have all the tools to do this? I’m lacking a lot of these tools.
With a little bit of elbow grease! Give it a shot
Yes... u can... you can with hand tools... before these machines were invented, woodworking was hand tools. 😊
Nice work! How thick are your cutting board strips?
What are the dimensions of the starting material and the finished product?
High-End machine shop as well

what are the dimenisionS?
Interesting. But it would have been more helpful if the guy had used regular tools found in most people's shops.
Stop whining and figure it out
stop being a dick... figure out how.

Wow. All I need is $20k worth of machines and I can make a butcher block.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that anyone who already owns a wide-belt sanding machine already knows how to do this project.
🤣 Exactly!
You could grab any type of saw and a drill and go make something, but you'd rather complain in youtube comments about what other people do
LoL yup
Yeah it says high-end block not beginners.
Its hilarious that Lee Valley doesn't even know to clamp from both sides to prevent cupping.
He clamps from both sides on the final glue up
Not much chance of cupping here....
Music is irritating.
So are you
😘

Tu aurais été mieux de le faire en français….
great! All you hobby woodworkers need is about $50k (minimum) for tools and you too can make $200 cutting boards. Come on Lee Valley. Get real!!!!
Stop whining and figure it out
Music ruined it.jeez.
Music is perfect
