- How to Program Craftsman Garage Door Opener remote DIY 1/2 HP and others multi button opener My wife and I programmed the garage door remote control and it was easy to program the Garage door opener. The programming of the Garage Remote was easy and fast. This DIY project takes minimal effort to program the garage remote you need a chair/stool to get up to push the button on the garage door opener. The garage door opener remote control setting steps are;
1)Push and hold button on back of garage door opener to clear codes
2)Push same button on back of garage door opener to reset
3)Push button for garage door opener till light clicks setting it
4)Test remote to see if it opens the garage door.
5)Complete Steps 2-4 for all remotes
6)you can even set multiple button to the same garage door opener.
We have 2 buttons opening one stall and the third button on the remote opening the other garage door

I mean it's great but only that specific remote will work. You can't program this with a universal remote
@@forcedge2302 not a 100% sure on the universal, but if you're concerned go to ebay and get the specific remote and see if that does the trick when you reprogram.

All I can say is thank you. I was able to use a Chamberlain remote from Home Depot and followed your super easy instructions and it worked perfectly on my 1997 Craftsman opener.
Perfect. Short and to the point. Got my remote to work before seeing this but was not happy with Sears because the programming procedure they had, in black and white, was totally different from yours. Possibly their procedure was for a different/older model. Thanks, UA-cam to the rescue again!

I bought a house with garage doors, the previous owners were not helpful. I have been scratching my head on what the other two buttons were for, well you answered that. Thanks so much for clearing that up !

We're up in Alaska! Hopefully it worked for you and the Gdoors are all opening with the remote... I could handle TX or TN. We just started thawing out last week and I still have 20 inches of snow in my yard. Alaska's a big place and some areas are mild all year long and don't get much snow, but we get seasons where I live. We're similar to Northern MN. We still have 30 inches of ice on the lakes and I'm still ice fishing. I think I want TN and the accents 😃 lol......Well hopefully it worked and thanks for taking the time to post!!!

Great tutorial. Thanks for posting. One suggestion: Best to discuss the difference between already having a remote programmed and adding an additional remote without wiping the connection with the original remotes. Thanks again

We're getting snow up here in places of Alaska. No fun working in the cold when you're not use to it yet. I'm always amazed at how freezing cold 40 feels in the fall, but then we get up to around 30 in the spring and I'm ready to go out in a t-shirt. Glad it worked for you!
Excellent, I read the directions on the door opener tried several times to set them to no avail . I was looking online to purchase a new door opener as both remotes quit the same time and I thought the mother board went bad , I saw this video watched it, not the same as Sears instructions tried it and You saved me $158.00 & who knows how much aggravation. Yepp, you should always run with three! We had made a spare, so we had 2. Guess what? We lost the main key so now we have a spare. The main key will show up around the house, but now we are in a rush to order a new one in case we lose the spare also. 3 is wise!!! Appreciate the comment

Good deal, short and to the point without telling us where the garage door come from, what kind of deal yu got on it, who loaded it up, why yu picked this type of garage door opener, how long it took to put it up, why and who let the dogs out, do i need to go on??
Yeah everyone seems to think they are celebrities and people care what they say. Viewers really just want to see how to fix the thing and carry on with their lives....
The only reason they stay tuned in is because they're hoping what they show after they quit blabbing helps, but it usually is the wrong vid and you have to do it all over again with the next one..... Hope you got it up and running and thanks for the comment.

Good guide, thanks! Pro tip: I was unable to program 2 different brands of remote at the same time. They don’t need to be Craftsman brand but the multiple remotes must all be the same brand.
Wow! First try and it worked! Thanks so much "You can Fix it!!! :) Now I just need to get the light to work. Using a GE 40W bulb and it says 100W max on the opener where you put the bulb in. You'd think the 40 would work. Will put the 100 in and see what happens. Always something frivolous to have to deal with day to day to break your day up cause you gotta fool w/it to make it work. Such is life.

Your video did it for me! My remote manufacturer instruction manual didn't work at all. I guess it is more important to follow the instructions of the opener/receiver than the remote/transmitter.

Thank you for the video. However I’m not correcting anything you’ve said but I tried this technique and it didn’t work, completely. I have an old craftsman from 09/98 stamped on it. It’s a belt driven opener that is a 41A5021-2C model. What I found with mine is while your programming procedure is correct my particular unit requires me to wait until the unit times and and the light goes off before I can program an additional remote. At that time I can program one more. Once I test it then it works. If I want to add another I have to wait for the lights to cycle off again which takes a few minutes. I’m not a patient person but I HAD to wait in order to program the next remote. I hope this helps someone out there with a much older remote like mine. 🙂

Thanks so much for the tutorial, but I tried to follow your instructions and my craftsman garage door control opener is not activating, I have the green light model, im not sure what im doing wrong
NEED HELP!! I bought 2 receivers. The first would program properly, then while programming the 2nd one it worked fine, but then it cancelled the first one and that would go back and forth while programming each remote. While pushing the button on the receiver that got cancelled, the green light would flash on the box, but nothing happens. Any ideas how to get both programmed without one cancelling out the other!?

For multiple remotes just need it to blink for the first one? Then just green light for the next keychain remote ?
Can I program it the same way to my 2019 gmc denali or do I have to buy a universal remote?
Your Denali should have a universal programmable remote with 3 button on the visor or on the dash to program the garage door opener in this same way
Trying to buy replacement remote controllers for our Craftsman 1/2 HP garage door opener. Do I follow the same protocol in your informative video for NEW ones? Can you recommend a specific model? My search only came up with Liftmaster ones and don't know if they're compatible with Craftsman. Thank you!
So I have 2 that now seem to not work.. and put a new battery in them... is it that anytime you swap batteries you must reset the remote? Also I have a third party remote that works now... if I reset the opener... do I have to reset up the third party already working remote as well or should it still work? thanks great video!!

On one side of the garage the door button operates the garage door opener fine, but the learn button does not learn, period, neither with remotes with new batteries nor with my auto's homelink system. I tried unplugging the Crafstman 1/2 HP, waiting 30 seconds and then reconnecting, but that didn't work either. On the other side of the garage, the same unit works perfectly. Any suggestions?
