Cartooning allows so much flexibility. Also, quicker gratification. Expression gives them life. Cartooning was my first real exposure to a more disciplined form of art. In the sixties, when I became a teenager, my parents got me a comprehensive book on cartooning. I've been happy ever since.
As way of encouragement to those who feel like they can't draw a proper circle: The funny thing about mastering circles for me tends to be to include them in my warm up repetitions, before I get started with any other practice or projects. So - I'll just keep making a circle in one spot, without lifting my pen or pencil, until it starts to actually look circle-shaped. It'll be scribbles, but it will be pleasingly round after about 5 or 15 passes. Then I move over and do it again, but this time, it tends to take fewer repetitions. After enough of these, in a row, my arm seems warmed up to the idea of being comfortable with drawing circles and then it's less of a worry to get them right in whatever I'm working on. They still might not be perfect, but they WILL be better. It usually takes me about 15 minutes to do "warm-ups". This is several different repetitions, including circles and curves. (your time might be more or less than this - whatever works for you) Doing warm-ups also seems to help me relax in general. And reducing stress is something we all can use these days. Hope that helps! :-)
I second this. For some people, art is just a natural talent. For others, it's learned, especially with muscle memory. I believe because art isn't a "strenuous" activity like for example, football or basketball, people automatically assume it's 'easy'. It only becomes "easy" when you take the time to practice, like any other skill. So with anything you feel you're not good at, keep doing it until you become better. "Repetition is the Mother of Learning." :)
Correct. :-) . Also - While the repetition itself can produce muscle memory (and this can make drawing an easier task), having that practice guided by occasional hints and tips from more experienced artists along the way may help to steer all that practice towards developing drawing habits that help more than they might hinder.

I've been drawing off and on (and off and on) for some 40 years. I've always used reference material to get a general idea of where I wanted to go with a character as far as pose, proportion and clothing design. I've always somehow managed to go from poor attempts at realistic drawing to more exaggerated cartoony style. I now see that there are building blocks (or basic shapes as it were) to creating fun characters. So I can go cartoony and stop worrying about realism (but not so much so that the viewer doesn't understand the drawing). I'm in!!! On to the next video!!!

Wow incredible tutorial. I feel like im a real artist now. i actually did draw all three and im so proud theyre almost identical to what u did. 😍😍 thank you!
Hello. I want to thank you so much for these videos you make because they make me want to draw even though my drawing is nowhere near your quality. I used to draw a lot during my childhood but grew to hate it because I never got better at it, the most I could draw was PowerPuff Girls. I tried drawing again during my teen years but hate it more because everything looks off. I also started to hate all kinds of art because of it. The way you explain and show the process one by one is very helpful, the way you divide them into lines. I always needed clear instructions on doing things so when most tutorials shows to use real life photos for reference I get distressed because I can never see the construction of lines in them. So thank you again. Hopefully I feel passionate about drawing again, because I used to love it.
This is the first tutorial which exactly shows the exact steps I looked at others and they just keep rushing it but your tutorial is really amazing! I will be watching the whole series, subscribed! ❤️

Best teacher with the best explanation of literally everything you showed in this video. You should teach ppl how to teach! How are your photography skills? lol
i love how you reply to alot of your fans
Thanks for noticing! It’s getting harder as the channel grows but I do my best!
I've done the first 3 tutorials in this series so far and I'm loving them! Thank you for taking time to explain "why" you do certain things. The format of using the same principles to draw 2 or 3 differently-styled faces in the same video is very helpful, too. This series really gives me more hope and confidence that I can improve as an artist.
For the first time in my life i somewhat created a character of my own. Thank you for this tutorial! Your the best of all the bestest!!♥️🤘🏻
That's awesome! Thanks so much!
I've not commented before, but I have watched many of your videos. You're a great teacher, just wanted to say. Sending love from Canada! :)
Wow incredible tutorial. I feel like im a real artist now. i actually did draw all three and im so proud theyre almost identical to what u did. 😍😍 thank you!
Awesome! Thanks so much for watching!
Yep, Still easily the best videos to learn from. Thank you very much, I'm looking forward to the series !!
Thanks Gary! This series is going to be a lot of fun!
