- Zeus presents Jet Set Willy (un-emulated) for the Atari 800xl, a true pile of crud from the golden era of Atari gaming which should be forgotten alongside the software house and all programmers that were involved in making this game.
Release date: 1987
Well growing up with this classic game along with Manic Miner on the spectrum, I was always going to be unsure about this game on other formats, and now I get to try the atari 8-bit version.
Simply put, the title screen music is very good even though it's completely different tune to the spectrum or C64 one, but the game it'self is awful!
The animation sucks, everything moves in a jerky fashion and what's worse is the animation of Willy himself,...he looks like he's doing a forward moon walk when moving left or right and when you move up or down stairs it looks like he's floating,...it's just horrible period.
Enclosing, cracking title music, game sucks.
Hope all you Atari 800 fans enjoy this upload.
A huge thanks goes out to fellow youtuber THESHADOWSNOSE for obtaining this game for my Atari 800xl, check out his channel for some great retro "let's play" videos!!!

Please note: NONE of my game uploads are emulated in any way whatsoever, they are 100% original recordings by myself taken directly from the original hardware the game was intended for, that way you know you're watching the real thing.
I will also always state weather i am using any cheats in the game, if not mentioned then i am not using any.

Keeping the memory of the Atari 800xl and it's cool games alive!!! - Ігри
I was so excited when, at long last, jet set Willy hit the Atari 8-bits. Loaded it up to hear the super cool music and thought " here we go!!!"
Alas within 30 seconds my life was not worth living. I shed a tear or two that day.
It's pure crud, be sure to watch my "Shit Game Time" video of it (on this channel), my real thoughts are shared there :-/
Get the 2019 remake, a long wait but you finally got it
och te stare dobre czasy atari;)))
Racja, mam 40 wiosen na karku i uśmiech wspomnień na twarzy :-)
Misja, Hans Kloss, Draconus, Robbo, Zybex, Archon, Fred, Klątwa, Ad2044, Spy vs Spy, Zorro, Bruce Lee, Goonies i jeszcze mnóstwo niesamowitych gier... Coś wspaniałego :)
This is one of the best (if not THE best) soundtracks for a game from that era. Heck, it’s one of the best musical tracks for a game. Period. It still sounds catchy and beautiful 30 years later. Brings back so many memories from my days of playing Manic Miner on my friends MSX in the mid to late 80s. Thanks for uploading this to UA-cam.
Bah. No, it isn't.
Don't worry everyone, there's a perfect conversion released in next two weeks, you won't believe how good it is!
mmhmm
Trzeba przyznać, że nawet 2019 nuta zacna. ;)
The coder Matthew Smith was 17 years old when he released this game in 1984 a kid that interfered in your life forever.
Think he was 18 actually. He was however 17 when he released Manic Miner :)
The Riddell brothers screwed this classic game for good.
The main character looks more like Indiana Jones!
At least Rob Hubbard granted this game a decent tune.
It's a total sham, my jaw dropped when the game started, I just couldn't believe this was the best they could've done with such a great machine, this, Chuckie Egg and Jet Pac were speccy diamonds and should just stay on the speccy,...especially this game,...yuk.
@@ZEUSDAZ the game was rushed out in 2 weeks and so bugged so it can never be finished. There may be a reworked patched version that can be completed somewhere online.
@@johnny88j9 Here's my true thoughts: ua-cam.com/video/deat67kO7L4/v-deo.html
@@ZEUSDAZ I wanted to buy it as a kid, I am so glad I could not, the store that was selling it sold out. Instead I managed to pick up Henry's House for a couple of quid later by Masteronic which was cheaper , better graphics and way more fun.
I know right. The music is so beautiful! It is a shame though. I do vastly prefer the c64 version, even if I feel this is at least playable
Might be best 8bit music ever composed...
Nah, Target Renegade on C64 and Agent X II level 3 on ZX.
@@ZEUSDAZ Nope, Justin is right.
Hell yeah, I had a cassette which ran this theme for an hour non stop.
The faces in the ballroom say more than I could about this ;)
Dreadful version, check out my "Sh*t Game Time" video review of it, you'll hear my tru thoughts,...on this channel.
Crap game, but worth loading up just to listen to another Hubbard masterpiece
I have always been reminded of this tune when listening to "love is a stranger" by Eurythmics
I personally can't see that but hey lol.
gielda komputerowa "FAFIK" miasto ŁÓDZ ul. A.STRUGA JET SET WILLY
This soundtrack!!!
Shame about the game :-(
@@ZEUSDAZ I found out why the game was shit, the coder had a shit time trying to write it by himself.
It's just magic.
Rob Hubbard is my absolute Favourite Chiptune Musican.
I think you sum this up perfectly. Fantastic tune, otherwise its horrible. Now if someone were to marry the Speccy version with this tune it would be superb.
Awful version....period!
ZEUSDAZ - THE UNEMULATED RETRO GAME CHANNEL I can't fault the argument although as I say I think the tune is stunning and just wish the graphics were comparable.
Someone did ua-cam.com/video/bpzRMhxcRyE/v-deo.html
OMG how do I un-see this? I bet this game is not on _anyone's_ CV! 🙂
Be sure to check out my SGT video review of it on this channel for my true thoughts :-)
Be warned gameplay actually starts at 5:15
Yes be warned everyone, be VERY warned!!! :-)
Yeah don't skip. Just stop at 5:15 and imagine the game is average at best.
i was searching that game about 35years:)) just remamber Dass and music
No. It's not that old, but truly one of the b÷st 8 bit musics.
Despite this game being a little rough ( apart from tune), tynesoft released some amazing games on Atari 8 bit. Winter Olympiad 88 had outstanding gfx and music. Gameplay was alittle lacking tho.
Isn't that music a remix of Jean Paul Jarre's Equinox?
It'd be interesting to find out if this was rushed out in a fortnight by someone that hadn't programmed a game before.
Have you seen my "Shit Game Time" video of this?! You may enjoy my pain ;-)
There's a newer version of this game and videos showing game play.
Bleugh, what went wrong here?! The nicest thing is the rainbow-effects, pre-Amiga.
I have no idea what happened here, could've been soooo much better.
@@ZEUSDAZ I hear you barking big dog!
I loathe to admit it but this is better than the C64 version. Impossible to make those colorful backgrounds on the C64. You could use dithering but I guess Atari with dithering would be even better. Even the music is better than the C64 version, despite it being a Rob Hubbard tune on a SID. Atari: 2, C64: 5620.
But it plays like total shit, nice music and nice graphics doesn't cover up the terrible playability.
Dont call me a idiot, I dont get what is bad about this.
Play it then play the ZX SPectrum version and all will be revealed.
but the music rocks@#!
The music is gravy but the game is arse gravy.
Agreed, check out my SGT review of it on this channel!
Jak można mieć Giana i zjebać muzę do tego? FUJI VOLCANO FOREVER, Dzięki za muzę, mam w komórce na moją żonę
🎧
Not bad - prefer the C64 version but the sound quality is better on this one (although the C64 music was Bach - sheer class!)
Oh good god the music is great but the game is utter garbage, take a look at my "Sh*t Game Time" review video ;-)
a better version was done for thae Atari in 2007 same music but updated better Graphics give it a look and see how it should of been done
*have
I loved JSW on the ZX Spectrum. This however looks like a big steaming pile of shit.
It is, check my "Shit Game Time" video review of it, on this channel :-)
oh dear.
Yep.
wow the first time I've seen a game look worse than on a Spectrum.
Jet Set was the master class on the spectrum, I guess you ain't seen Rastan on cpc, Chase H.Q on c64 then lol.
I thought it looked okay and this game was more about game play anyway but without playing it I can see the collision detection is programmed really badly. It also looks really sluggish lol
5 minutes of the intro screen is WAY too long but otherwise thanks for sharing this piece of digital history :)
Don't blame me, It's what the masses wanted me to do at the time.
@@ZEUSDAZ Oh I get it, was it in order to include the entire theme tune? That would make sense
I was disappointed with the game, but it really isn't that bad compared to the c64 and speccy version, i would say better.
Have you taken your meds today?, 🤔 😂
Seriously though, the ZX version is the quintessential version and the original version, nothing beats it, it plays perfectly.
@@ZEUSDAZ Mmm maybe I'm being a little over generous. Have you checked out the new Atari port done in 2019. It really shows you what the Atari was capable of.
Yikes ... that's a really poor conversion. They haven't even got the basics of the platforming engine down, with the way the character (I'm not even going to call it "Willy" because it's not him!) interacts with stairs - up and down - looking particularly botched. Was this written in BASIC by amateurs? Sees "Tynesoft". Ah, that explains a lot.
This ATARI version of Jet Set Willy SUCKS! ZXspectrum rules!
Agreed, check out my "Sh*t Game Time" review of this version, I think you'll like it.
Muzyka najlepsza na Atari gra była słaba
What the hell is this awful pile of rubbish? Oh my. I can't believe Tynesoft ever let this get out. The BBC Micro version is bad enough - they even left a flashing cursor on the screen in the BBC Micro one.
If that was your first game ever on this platform you'd have thrown the whole lot out with the rubbish for the bin men.
Check out my "shit game time" video of it for my real thoughts about this shite-fest.
