Possibly the best version ever of Jet Set Willy using the uniqueness of Ataris quirks, palette, pure speed and Rob Hubbard's music. Perhaps even a real credit to the north of England, Tezz. Keep up the good work !
Super version to wipe away the absolute tripe that was launched by T*nesoft, apart from the original amazing music by Rob Hubbard, this puts things to rights and kept the best soundtrack of any version on the Atari. Kudos to you!
Thanks, it's achieved with specific colour ordering, sprite overlays with sprite copies where needed and raster changes with mid scan where needed. The game is actually delayed to a playable speed as it's 50/60Hz :)
Epic, can this be put to cassette? Like a wav file? So I can put it onto side b of tape and call it jetset willy+ Great job - glad you kept original music. The original game was rather rough but I used to spend (waste!) Hours playing it. Thanks
Hi and thanks :) yes that's possible, I'd recommend using the a8cas-tools package (a8cas.sourceforge.net/) you can create a CAS image from my executable and the tools enable you to convert a CAS file to WAV so you can record back to your original cassette tape.
Hi, the standard Atari has character and bitmap modes at this resolution (ANTIC mode 2/F) and furthermore thanks to the flexibilty of ANTIC we can utilise three screen widths : a "narrow" width of 32 bytes (256 pixels wide), a "normal" width of 40 bytes (320 pixels wide) and, a wide width of 48 bytes (384 pixels wide). We can also set these widths in independent rows within the same display via diplay list interrupts. These modes only provide two shades of the same hue from the Ataris pallete however as the Atari does not have a colour map like some other later 8-bit platforms. Colour registers $D017 and $D018 (COLOR1 and COLOR2 respectively) are used in these modes with register $D01A setting the border colour independently.

It's crazy how good this is - it must have taken an awful lot of extra programming to get colourful hi-res graphics!

The Atari 800 XL had the second best Soundchip of all 8 Bit Computers.
I would love to hear a C64 SID Tune of that.

But what graphic mode was used ? I see 256 pixels per line, which is not standard atari 800 graphic mode ?

I'm not sure if anyone has uploaded it so far to Atarimania. You should find it on many Atari archives online however :)
