They should have called Olaf to guest in this vid. I can imagine his horror
Hahah, good one 😂😂😂😂🎻🤕😁
I was hoping Olaf never sees this, he’ll go nuts
@@miwir1248 but I think Olaf can comment more on these violins. Like the quality and cut of the wood, the bowhair, the pegs, the bow, and how each, and also the sacrilegious accessories will affect the physics of sound production. Idk. Might be interesting and educational as well :) Maybe this vid can have a part 2 with Olaf. Money they spent on these amazon purchases is still money, might as well do another episode 😅
abby vv that is actually a big brain idea. Come on guys make a part 2!
He would have a heart attack looking at these gadgets😂
for anyone who doesn't understand why they're being so careful with their bows, its because each of their bows probably cost around anywhere from $150 - $1000. Probably more, actually, as $300- $800 would be just a cheap student bow.
That's a bargain haha.
Oh if only it were to be that cheap..
My bow cost 200 freaking dollars so I treat it like a baby
their bows are probably even more expensive than that...
idk if I'm just a "idgaf" guy about the things i bought for myself or something but I bought a cheap e guitar for 150€ (that's the most money I've ever spent on luxury stuff...I don't have a lot of money) and I'm obviously not throwing it around like a weird m o n k e but if i bonk it against my desk or chair and there's a new dent in it I don't really care because...well even tho it's a lot of money for me...this is the lowest end of a playable electric guitar. Now. If this guitar would be 15,000€ (I doubt their bows are THAT much but this is for demonstration as well for a different instrument lol)
I'd honestly stand in the middle of my room, away from any kind of bonk-able surface that could dent my guitar and I'd be scared to even scratch the pickguard by accident, even tho...it's there to catch scratches that would otherwhise scratch the actual finish of the guitar
so some bows be costing more than some violins
For my 10th birthday I got a turquoise violin from my dad. Later I looked on amazon history and discovered it was around 70 dollars, the same violin they got but a different color. I no longer blamed myself for snapping 3 strings and all the pegs coming out and all the hair on my bow unloosening. I learned that it wasn't my beginner's playing when I practiced on my schools violin and to my surprise, nothing broke. Moral of the story: Violins are expensive for a reason.
Buying from a reputable dealer (ie. a real music store or strings shop) is important. When my son started playing, I got him an $80 1/2 size violin (case/bow/rosin included). Granted, this was 12 years ago, but we bought it from the music shop in our small town. They measured my son to order the correct size because the 'orchestra' teacher wanted my son to get a full sized violin so it would be louder. There are many stories about that 'orchestra' and that teacher, but that was an awesome first violin. 12 years later and my son in minoring in music/violin performance, has a composite bow (he picked out) that plays the equivalent to a $1000 wood bow and was gifted a nice violin from a friend who used to be an excellent player through her 20s but sold her $5000 violin because she needed the money. She bought a 'cheap' $400 violin 30 years ago because she felt bad not owning a violin but couldn't play it because the sound quality was so much worse. That 'cheap' violin got him to all-state orchestra in high school and a performing arts scholarship in college.
The color of the violin is terrifying
@FJMZ Silent Gamer omg I'm stupid as hell thnx mate

My Dad bought the same viola on Amazon! One of the strings snapped in my face when I tried to tune it. After we tossed it, I asked him if he read the reviews before purchasing. He turned to me with this befuddled look on his face and asked, "What reviews?"
Isn't there something you could do with it? Like make it electric or something.
i was like: WOAH its actually playing! then brett just comes into shot like 🎻🎻
Lol, in my elementary school orchestra, I was concert master. Half the people couldn’t tune their violins, and I had to tune it for them... the violins I have come across... unspeakable...
Dude, i feel you. I had just the same situation, and i'm still in elementary music school, and there we have like a school orchestra and because no one knew how to tune their violin i had to do it and the sounds of that violins was truly horrible...

I bought my cello off of eBay about 20 years ago for $350, just to putter and teach myself. When I got a proper teacher she couldn’t believe it was that cheap an instrument. It was a student grade to be sure, but totally playable, and has a pretty good tone. Best 350 I ever spent.

This actually makes me feel bad. There are a lot of families out there to whom 60$ is no laughing matter. Imagine you're trying to make your kid happy by buying them a violin just to end up with a boxful of plastic horrors instead.
Can confirm.
My dad went online and found a store selling a purple violin in child’s size. It wasn’t as cheap as the one they found though. When he went to pick it up it turned out it was exactly like the first one they found in the video. Sounded the exact same too. He was pissed, but the shop owner wasn’t going to do anything. He was well aware that he was scamming him. I had to use that thing for a whole year and no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t get it to sound even halfway decent. Really made me hate practicing music.

I actually bought the first one they had as my beginner violin and had to send it back 2 times… I got one from them and finally was able to play it.. I had to buy my own strings (about 60$) and it worked perfectly (the bridge wasn’t flat) .. so if a person can’t afford a expensive violin you can buy the first one and buy a set of good strings and make it work.. as a beginner one of course (buy a more expensive one later on when you know you’ll stick to playing)

they definitely don't care, they don't put any effort into the products and their whole point is to make nai've (probably old) parents and grandparents think they are useful in some way
Welcome to my job teaching beginning string classes, easily half of my students have these disasters
Is there any way to get sound out of these or will it always be a waste of rosin?
@@LeoWolfish It wouldn't be worth it even if you were able to fix the bridges, bows, pegs, etc. All of that DIY would cost much more than those abominations are worth. Even after the "renovations" the instruments would still stink, look gawdy, and sound quiet or altogether awful.

Well think about how much money they paid for their violins as well, too much to risk
Dude I didn't even want my violin to see that thing xD
My school usually lets you rent them out for orchestra and eventually after playing for awhile you pay it off and it’s yours. They don’t make you restart the rental if you need to upgrade to a larger size though. I mean when I ended up switching to a double bass (which was deftinetly an adjustment) because the school orchestra had barely anybody playing it then we had to redo a rental for that one but that’s also an entirely different instrument
I am playing and performing on a sprektrum of instruments and I gotta say something for beginners: If you are unsure about wether or not you stick to the instrument. Go and rent a professionally made instrument! They are usually in amazing shape and fixed up to make your journey most pleasant. I did this with my flute when I was a kid, the piano and now with a Cello (I started learning two weeks ago. (Yes, I play 4 instruments^^) If you love the sound of an instrument don't waste money and nerves on poorly made things and if you end up realizing that the particular instrument isn't for you, you can give it back and someone else is being able to learn on it. ;)

bridges are not supposed to be glued down. it relies on the tension of the strings, placement, and angle. dont recommend gluing it down... you should take it to a local luthier.

@@watsonwrote wow you're really good! and i feel you on the "made it my pfp for a laugh and never changed it back" thing, as you can probably tell
To be fair. Watercolor is more about skill than the material. I've seen people make good art with their coffee or blood lmao.
Of course, preservations is where it gets expensive. More expensive materials just last longer. Value also rise up with expensive materials.
This is a different though. Can't get good with a cheap violin if it's unplayable. I've seen pros try to play with a cheap violins and made it playable, but only because they immediately know what's wrong with it and how to adjust to it.
@@seraby7151 to be fair, Kasey Golden is another breed of artist (she's very great, i wish i can get washes as flat as hers)
That “wrist aid” looks more like an archery arm guard...
Oh my god i think it is
nah, those have leather and is meant to be lower, nearer to the elbow
Omg yes it dose
it's for bows
literally thought the same lol
I wanted to play the violin as a child. Sadly, I was told it was my fault a plastic violin would not play and that I should give up music. Seeing this lets me know I was actually never given a chance.
“It smells Funny”
Proceeds to smell it
No one:
Absolutely no one:
Not even sacrilegious kids:
*my family* :
“Look we got you a violin cheaper than what the teacher told us!”
Sad story
This is just true for any kind of thing your teacher recommends for buying. For example costumes for stage plays
Parents just think cheap stuff would have the qualitiy as expensive stuff :")
Good for calculators and textbooks, but almost never good for any of the arts unless you know what you're doing.
My parents bought me the first one. And they paid more then what it costed on amazon
"Begins at $400, that's like just playable."
*sees comments discussing 200-400$ violin*
*gazes at my bow, case, and violin, which came as a set for 100$ on ebay*
oh
Yea I was thinking the same thing. I got mine for about the same price. And am in love with mine. If I payed $400 for a violin the place where I live will kill me.
Well, ya got it on eBay. You probably got a hand-me down.
I really want to learn, but i dont think i could go over $150. Like, could you still learn on a 100-150$ violin from amazon?
Anjali a violin that cheap might have problems that will affect your playing, or anyone’s for that matter simply because they might not be built right. The best thing you can do would be to go to the nearest music store and see the cheapest violins that they have and confirm that they’re not total garbage, but that might not be possible right now for obvious reasons. I don’t mean to discourage you, but it would suck if someone stopped playing because their instrument was crap.
@@hurrikane5562 i understand. I cant even find a place to even rent one, even if i did i dont think it would be very safe. Guess I'll just stick to my guitar for now 😔
"Begins at $400 ... that's like just playable."
Me looking at my 30$ Violin:😶
I mean, it plays...
I'm going to take up violin in a couple months and I decided to watch this channel because they play violin and their hilarious. Just a couple minutes in they turn this into an ASMR video with bubble wrap.
That stupid Virtuoso wrist thing is for archery not violin, the people who sold it are scammers
Anderson Choi “oh hey, you sent the product over to amazon right?” “Yeah, this is going to help so many violinists out there” “violinists? This is supposed to be for archers!” “YOU SAID IT WAS FOR BOWS ITS NOT MY FAULT”
@@annonimooseq1246 haha nice
i knew it looked familiar!
Arm guards are usually a bit wide, seeing as they have to cover most of your forearm, but regardless of that, whatever that thing was, it was a scam!
NO violinist practices with a wrist aid...
TwoSet: soloist violins start at $500,000
pianist: *laughs in $156,000 concert grand*
500,000? Is that an error?
The Divine Comedy not at all they get violins from like the 16th century
@@welken3756 not an error
If a pianist would laugh because he has a more expensive instrument, wouldn't the violin have to be less expensive?
@@welken3756 the pianist was laughing because he saved over $300,000...
You guys are hilarious! I loved watching!
I love watching you guys!
Wow... Those bow devices are like putting two walls in the road to learn how to drive a car in a straight line.
Its like bumpers in a bowling alley. They block the gutter for kids so the ball actually hits something 😆
It’s actually worse than that, lol. It’s like putting a wall in front of the car and telling it to drive through it.
I feel sorry for those who bought these-
