I laughed so hard at "Asian stereotypes," and, "yeah, yeah, 40 hours a day!" "That was okay, out of the 10 seconds that she played," except for claiming to play a specific song that was definitely not the song, fingers on the board being wrong, strings out of tune, bow placement, and bow hand being wrong. But, yeah, she totally did OK. I kinda love when you guys point out when professional musicians miss notes in the music. That's why those people are playing music for movies and are not in renowned orchestras.
My brother played violin for a year in elementary, and during covid I picked up the violin. My brother came into my room when I was practicing once and said he still remembered how to play (him now being 17). So, being the good sister I am, I let him try, and (with no hesitation) he immediately started playing on the finger board with a death grip on the bow. Never again, lol
I'm not sure that using a line from a Warner Brothers movie would be the smartest. Even if they have a valid parody claim, the WB lawyers could nuke them from orbit.
Okay I am assuming you play Double Bass but I have a question, isn't that fact at 8.04 wrong? Like most bassists (from my knowledge) play a 3/4ths, not a full size, so I am assuming they took the height of a full size bass which is not the average
You are right. Most bassist use a 3/4 but in most if not all classical orchestras they use a full size bass (they sit on stools to use them). But they would have uses the height for a full size.
Same, I was in pain the entire time. And don't just waggle them, they're actually pretty delicate?! But on another note, twoset was right - everyone notices my pedals first and goes "wait what" lmao
@@robbiejames1540 nope. They change pitch. You don't have every single note available on a harp but you can shorten or lengthen the individual strings with the pedals to achieve just that. There is a pedal for every single note (hence seven). Like, using the one for b can make every b-string be b flat or b sharp
"2 out of celebrity" I love that. The more importance you give celebrities... the lower their score. The lower your expectations of celebrities, the more impressive their score is then. 2/celebrity and 10/10 for twoset
Also the Tom Hiddleston scene besides being one of the better ones is actually pretty smart from a filmmaking perspective I've seen that film several times(Only Lovers Left Alive by Jim Jarmusch, great stuff if you're into vampires and alternative films), in it Tom is a vampire, who is supposed to be centuries old and have met/known several key figures in history, including musicians, and he himself is implied to be a accomplished multi-instrumetalist(with all those centuries to practice who wouldn't). In the film tho he is mainly a guitarrist and does some weird drone music stuff, which starts to get some unwanted attention after he lends some of his tapes to a friend, and he, a secluded vampire living in Detroit, wants to remain anonymous and safe. In that scene a group of fans find out where he lives and start approaching his apartment, and thus he takes the dust of his old violin(which we assume he played very well sometime in the past) and from mind starts playing something annoying and classical that is sure to drive off a crowd of noise alternative rock hipsters, in this case Paganini Caprice n5. And that's why it's rusty and not too good sounding, having a couple of mistakes here, but still being a difficulty piece only someone very familiar with the instrument would know how to play, as he is supposed to be out of shape and not touched the instrument for years, but also have been a virtuoso. He's also primarily trying to fend off the fans, so playing well is not a priority. Also how the scene is shot and all, filmed from the back of the violin, dim lit, as it not to show the fingerboard or bow all that well helps sell it as a real thing for someone who isn't a professional violinist.

In defense of the scene from Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock is supposed to be pretty drugged out of his mind in that scene, so I don't really think he is supposed to seem "Genius" as much as "Unhinged / Slightly insane." In the novels Sherlock Holmes was very much a drug addict, and they allude to this in the movies.

Double bassist: :(
Okay I am assuming you play Double Bass but I have a question, isn't that fact at 8.04 wrong? Like most bassists (from my knowledge) play a 3/4ths, not a full size, so I am assuming they took the height of a full size bass which is not the average
You are right. Most bassist use a 3/4 but in most if not all classical orchestras they use a full size bass (they sit on stools to use them). But they would have uses the height for a full size.
3/4ths is correct. Unless you're the Goliath like some people I know. OP got it down.

Same, I was in pain the entire time. And don't just waggle them, they're actually pretty delicate?!
But on another note, twoset was right - everyone notices my pedals first and goes "wait what" lmao
What do harp pedals do? Is it the same as on a piano?
@@robbiejames1540 nope. They change pitch. You don't have every single note available on a harp but you can shorten or lengthen the individual strings with the pedals to achieve just that. There is a pedal for every single note (hence seven). Like, using the one for b can make every b-string be b flat or b sharp
@@sylla_headhunter4725
Oh wow! That must make it much harder to play.
@@robbiejames1540 Kinda haha, you just have to juggle your feet and hands way more than piano players do

You died a little inside
Also the Tom Hiddleston scene besides being one of the better ones is actually pretty smart from a filmmaking perspective
I've seen that film several times(Only Lovers Left Alive by Jim Jarmusch, great stuff if you're into vampires and alternative films), in it Tom is a vampire, who is supposed to be centuries old and have met/known several key figures in history, including musicians, and he himself is implied to be a accomplished multi-instrumetalist(with all those centuries to practice who wouldn't).
Might have to find the movie
Priyanka Patel the movie is called Only Lovers Left Alive
Yes!! I loved that movie, its not for everyone, as it is very slow but i think the more artistic people or introverts would enjoy it
When Robert Downey Junior “played” the violin, his character was supposed to look crazy...
It's still shit
he really oughta stop playing the same character in all of his movies

In defense of the scene from Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock is supposed to be pretty drugged out of his mind in that scene, so I don't really think he is supposed to seem "Genius" as much as "Unhinged / Slightly insane." In the novels Sherlock Holmes was very much a drug addict, and they allude to this in the movies.
Old comment I know, but Sherlock Holmes, in the novels, plays the violin horribly while he´s thinking to help him focus, although he knows how to play correctly.
I was about to comment this
And he is played by the right actor.
I prefer the other Holmes in the modern world.
