Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Mode of Horror fans.
In 1939, mere months after the onset of the second world war, Germany experienced its worst passenger-train-related accident in its history. The Genthin rail disaster was a horrible tragedy which resulted from a chain of unfortunate coincidences including a number of important safety considerations that were ignored.
Most importantly, one of the train conductors’ aggressive tactics were ultimately to blame. But it wasn’t the only factor. The demands of the war created a difficult environment in which to work which was made worse by the large number of people seeking to travel by train for the Christmas holiday.

A Mode of Horror video on Christmas? What a great present! 🎁 Haven't heard of this disaster. Good to see at least someone at fault was punished. RIP to the victims. Glad they're still remembered.

I’m glad it was a treat for you! Absolutely, it is a bit refreshing to see some punishment being handed down. Too often there is none. Agreed. Glad they are memorialized.

Merry Christmas to you as well, Sweet Lovely Death! I'm glad I was able to get one out today. I was a bit worried I was going to have to delay it and miss out on using my special Christmas-themed intro! Sounds like a great time; I'm in a similar situation here. I hope you enjoy.

"Red light? I'll just pretend it wasn't there. What's the worst that could happen?"

Thank you for the additional insight on this. It’s astonishing how many rail disasters they suffered in such a short time.

Thank you for pointing this out. I didn't realize I said east in instead of west until you pointed this out. My apologies for this mistake. I am glad you enjoyed it though. Thanks for watching, I appreciate your comment.

It's really not easy to make a video about a disaster when there is very little authentic material, since it happened in a time when everything was secret and forbidden. And moreover, it's almost impossible to dive into the daily life of those times. It was different from anything we can experience or imagine today. You've done your best. And, yes, of all times, the 1940's war years brought a strange series of remarkably cold winters in Europe.

This is a bunch of crap, so many mistakes. The conductor blew through nothing, he does not drive, the engineer went through the red lights for unknown reasons, NOT to make up time. Please research and do it again !

Yeah, we all know how German rail services were used during WWII.
