Come on Zero, get into the DC game, with DC charging touring is a viable option and it's all Zero need to be a genuine ice bike alternative. If a 10 year old Nissan Leaf can do it.......
I'm looking forward to the Japanese getting into the EV bike game as I want my Yamaha MT-E 👍👍
The problem with DC seems to be that AC motor design is making considerable gains in the engineering of it, AC motors can go faster as well.
@@Enonymouse_ He is talking about DC fast charging. Not the motors. DC fast charging will reduce the charging time to below 1 hour.
I cant be the only person who gets annoyed at a £20K bike with Halogen indicators? The costs of LED's has come down so much in recent years and it surely wouldnt be a massive thing to add them at factory?
yup, ive got one and I'm geting about %1 more range (commuting over the week) after changing to led headlights and indicators from the halogen
when its a premium price on a bike thats trying to be futuristic.... why the heck do they insist on halogen...
Harley too...
@@89Phish yeah, LED is brighter and uses less power but for turn signals there's an annoying thing with the electrical side.
Going to start describing myself as "Gravitationally blessed" from now on 😂
It’s a new t-shirt for sure 😉👍
Me too !!
Your production quality just gets better and better Bruce, top job
Wow!! Bruce...you've done it! Awesome man...a whole video without mentioning the 'kin GS. Now you know you can do it I'll look forward to many more. And oh yeah...the leccy bike, er whatever.
Defo the future, but perhaps not just yet . Nice to see you back out riding bikes and you do tell it how it is, keep them coming Bruce
Bruce great to see you back on the road, enjoy the electric rides however the distance thing and charge thing i think will be a problem here in Aus but keep up the good work cheers.
After a 30 year delay into biking, I did my CBT last weekend and pickup my Sinnis hoodlum next weekend, good times ahead. Looking forward to seeing you on some more affordable small bikes.
Great stuff, Sinnis do some great wee bikes, I’m doing a fair bit with them now 👍
Beautifully put together 😎☝️🇬🇧 they are definitely top of the game when it comes to electric ⚡️ motorcycles, but there is a lot of other companies now catching them that’s for sure , electric definitely has its place in the industry
Definitely need to get a run on one of these some day soon. Cheers Bruce.
That’s a good looking bike! Haven’t ridden an electric bike yet, but not worried about them in the future!! Just the charging times I don’t like! Wouldn’t stop me getting one though, would just have to plan the trips differently! Great vid as always Bruce!!👍
Thanks bud, much appreciated 👍
Great vid mate Love to see u out in the 2020 Aprilia RSV4 factory
Thanks bud - so would I! 😉👍
thank you mister, from Norway, you are the best, hope on a longer test for you from the BIKE owner"s...
Great vid, love look of eletric bikes like something out of trom .waiting for u to have a go at the eletric Harley 😁🤘
Me too! 👍
It's a nice enough looking bike for sure, and all the luggage makes it a proper every day bike. At the moment the usual things are a concern though. 1 Cost (It's an expensive bike and unlikely to come down in price anytime soon) 2. Range and rate of charge. (Getting better in both but still an issue) The weight of it reminded me of your views on the GS. It IS heavy but carries it low down and once you are cognisant of that in braking areas etc then it ceases to be an issue.
I still don't think I could have one as an only form of transport atm but I'm also sure that the power and torque would never get old! Cheers for the vid Bruce!
Thanks Al, aye I’m exactly the same bud 👍
Hi Bruce, IAM stuff; I think an explanation of how to apply the system of motorcycle control ( speed, position, gear, acceleration) in different situations would be very helpful to a lot of riders not familiar with roadcraft teachings.
Great content my man, well done you 👍🏼
Thanks for sharing Bruce. Really interested in electric bikes but still waiting for bigger range / quicker charging and the price not to be more than my family car 😂 great video. Very helpful.
Cheers Gordon 👍
I'd really like to see a review of the Kawasaki Versys 1000.
I have a 2015 model and love it, but would like to see your opinions, as an adventure/touring bike owner.
I believe the Versys is very underrated.
Keep up the good work Bruce.
Ride safe and have fun.
great vid, I rode that bike a few weeks ago... big smiles. Looking forward to testing out the Ribelle 21.5kWh in September once Alec gets it in stock, big battery, DC charging... I "may" order one for 2021, or more likely the EsseEssse 21.5kWh. Cheers...
Aye the Ribelle is mega, I rode one in Italy last year with Energica, stunning bikes
teapotone not sure if it’s too sporty a riding position for me, we will see. Cheers
I'd like to see teapot take the SR/S out again #zeromotorcycles
Looks nice, don’t mind the sound.....it’s just the real world range, I’d be worrying about it on the daily 89 mile commute and touring...with a couple of 1hr charge stops 🤨
Great vid Mr T(pot). I was really keen to go electric for commuting but cost and range were inhibiting factors. Also - is it really good enough to not have a decent back brake? Is that just a function of it not being big enough for the weight or whatever? Rear brake is often recommended for control rather than stopping power, helps settle the bike - relying purely on the front stopper with such a heavy machine risks putting a lot through just one contact patch...?
Wonder what happens when one slides down the road and the first person to helpfully pick it up gets electrocuted.
Bruce - I am about to take my PTA with the IAM and would suggest that the two most useful videos would be (1) Positioning and (2) Gears. Your style of commentry on these topics would be of great benefit to all riders and help them to ' Live your life ' on 2 wheels with less risk ! Ride safe.
I ordered mine today then got home to see this video :-) :-)
Awesome 👍
Interesting bike mate. If you ever need it, I can point you in the direction of some other stopping points around Bewl, but they are all pretty busy in the summer. You can get into the main carpark on a bike without paying too from one spot. You can also fly drones there too, just cant take off from the main area you started at.
Best electric bike video yet Teapot 👍 cracking mate 🙏
Wow thanks very much bud 🙇♂️👏🙏👍
No problem 👍 would be lovely to maybe collaborate on your podcast re youtube vloggers and the struggles on starting a UA-cam channel and what it takes to make it! While I am only at 2500 subs and growing at a rate of 500 subs every three months would love to join a call. Cheers Nick @ MotoUK
I'd like to see you take out the SR/S again. I have t he SR/F and interested in any differences you may notice.
That looks a cracking bike, I really fancy trying an electric bike. And I’m glad I’m not the only one who shouts You’re Welcome 😆
Ha Ha 😉
Thanks Derek, not sure if you’re anywhere near them, but drop English Electric Motor Company a bell for a test ride 👍
Interesting bike! I’m open to the idea of electric bikes, I think there is still further work to be done and the bigger manufacturers need to bring something to the table! Bewl Water is a lovely place, stopped there last year as part of the International West Kent Run!
Another plus point with it being electric is that you DON'T have to turn it off when stationary as per the sign (at 7min 17sec) as you waited to crossed that narrow bridge. 👍👍
I look forward to the triumph TE1 coming out it looks it could be a game changer
Normally I eschew e-vehicles because of range and cost, but that's a sharp bike. The Livewire costs about the same or more and this has more to it. Looks better too.
I was so impressed I've ordered one.... In fact it's this actual demo model you rode when they get rid of it in October so hope you looked after my bike 😉 I'm only 11 stone so that shock should be fine. Did you try the speed with that camera mount removed? Also, you mentioned it has the 6kw charge tank but they told me that it's actually the 12kw one which would make sense as 1 hour charge on a 14kw battery would be about an hour and 6kw would be two hours. Nice review, thanks.
Aye apologies, I was using the specs off the website for the standard model.
Enjoy the bike 👍
Good review Bruce. I'll take the Zero SR/S before an Harley
One day these will be cheap, then I'll buy one.
Think about how well battery powered electronics like computers and phones age... probably better to get them new and ride them til they're dead, they'll all need new batteries and some random expensive part they didn't design right after like 10 years.
@@zachmiller9175 you touch on the current issues, which is the re-conditioning of used batteries back into the system. This isn't there in any meaningful form, hence when the battery final poops, the cost of replacement means you dump the entire vehicle.
I t3st rodeboth srs and srf and loved both. Srf for me with the low slung mirrors ans looks
Love ur vids
Thanks man, much appreciated 👍
Excellent vid as always ... even if it's electric ! Here's To the next 'Nationals' . Keep saving those's Cable ties ., 😉 & Keep 🐶'ing ard 🏍️ .
looks good how would putting a real adult on the back effect performance and handling
Really would love to have a go on one of these. If you do get it back for a longer term I would love to see a distance trip with someone like chopsie or AMC using the esse esse 9 to see how vital that dc charging would be on a tour.
Heres a question for you and Stu, the correct way to carry out emergency breaking possibly linked in with avoidance techniques?, great work Bruce, keep it up!!
That wallowing out of the corners is too low shock rebound damping - if you can adjust that, try adding some more rebound i.e. wind the adjuster clockwise a few notches. Nice vid btw, been thoroughly enjoying the 'silence' :D
The biggest issue with these, as the comments suggest, is the cost. Theres the heady cost to purchase which is somewhat mitigated by the savings on fuel but it's the whole cost of ownership. The replacement batteries are scary prices (as per your podcast with the English Electric Company). Add in the limited market and hence ease of resale/residual cost and all I can say is good luck and thank you to the early adopters. Rather their money investing in the future than mine.
Yeh, bum on seat and tyres on roads. Better than product reviews in my opinion. Nice video Bruce.
Really interesting vid Bruce. Can you get your hands on a Ducati multi 950 sometime?
Re the IAM..im.doing rospa but would love to know advice re driving techniques in bad weather/rain etc please
Great looking bike, Re: IAM etc. can you do a slot on tight low speed U-Turns and how best to practise them without dropping the bike (don't ask!) Thanks
LIked! before I've even watched it - Just for the title header. Strong work. - right lets press play...
Dude so did I 🤣😂😂 that's strange 👍👍👍👍☘️☘️☘️
Great vid as always!
Ha Ha thanks bud - Clickbait, annoys the hell out of me but I’m thinking, if you can’t beat’em, join’em!
I may start doing make-up and gaming vids next 😂👍
@@teapotone the click baiting or the dogging. Lol. Still making me chuckle non the less. Top work
Hmm never seen this version of the Zero. Maybe I missed it, what the charging time?
Question for you & Stu. Technique for setting off on a incline covering the front brake when the road camber won’t allow you to put your left foot down thus preventing you from using the foot brake?
Great one 👏👍
Blimey you was in my town😁👍😆
14KWh battery, 6KW charger ... charge time 2.5hrs. As you won't actually get 6KW, and as the charging slows significantly near the top 90-100%, you're looking at 3hrs charging from flat to 100%.
Info idea-in general my understanding is when turning its best to turn body and head in the direction of a turn first when road riding. I recently saw a video of a track/racer type that said its best to slide toward tank and rotate around the tank with hips/back end half off the seat (so that you are twisted opposite the direction of turn). Some thoughts or insight into pros and cons of each approach might be useful. Me --- I'm sticking with shoulders and head turned in the direction of the turn (with back side slid off a bit in direction of turn).
Good review. Could you do another one not in beast mode, but the opposite, to see how many miles the battery lasts on the same kind of roads? Would be much appreciated
Hi Bruce - I've just recently signed up for the IAM training with a view to volunteering with Blood Bikes. Just waiting to be contacted - I believe observed sessions are starting again soon here in Central Scotland. I would love some riding tips especially on cornering/road position in general and the whole 'vanishing point' thing which I find really difficult to grasp. Your planned collaboration videos will be of great interest to me.
The electric bikes are of interest now that I'm retired and not doing a daily commute. We're on our second full electric car (Zoe) although it is a second car. However we've just ordered a brand new Triumph Tiger 900 GT to do some retiral touring.
All the best - shiny side up!
Dave
Cheers David, I’ve made a note of your queries and will address them in the vids bud. All the best with the Blood Bikes, fantastic thing to do 👍👏
Does a car charger work, by that I mean is it the same plug you see out and about.
I love your reviews and will continue to support this channel by watching however, I recently watched a film by Michael Moore called "Planet of the humans" which has interesting and quite shocking points about how batteries are made and the manufacturing of wind turbines, solar panels and if they last long enough and are they cost effective in terms of the environment. It stopped me from looking further into purchasing a battery powered vehicle because it bought up some very good questions.......how much do I really know about this new planet saving energy movement and how far away are we from better manufacturing processes that are kinder to our environment and truly sustainable products?
Just a thought!!
Anyway with that out of the way, good review as always and look forward to the next one. 😁👍🏾
So, what becomes of the value of petrol/diesel vehicles when electric takes over? Do they instantly become value less or will there be some sort of transfer over scheme? I.e. It you've been fortunate enough to be able to buy a £15 grand bike now, will it be worth nothing in 5 years??
Enjoyed the vid and your style of presentation, so I have a question please? I'm a Ducati ST3 rider and I'm looking for a electric bike as my daily rider, popping about transport, so to be specific can you suggest an electric bike with reasonable performance for under £10k ?
Cheers Dave
I don’t know of any for that price I’m afraid - there’s bound to be an option though.
Drop the English Electric Motor Company a line, I’m sure they’ll gladly help 👍
@@teapotone Thanks very much for that suggestion.
👍 TP one great review of the zero great video 👌 R1 Greg 🏍️😁
Top man Greg, thank you 👍👏
Hi Bruce How about Braking for AIM?? there is always lots of stuff about overtaking and cornering but what about correct braking technique when cornering. Oh and by the way there is conflicting advice on everything to do with riding a motorbike!!
Try and get it again and see if you can do a tour of Scotland on it.
I know your GS fan boy and they do look great, what about a review on the yamaha tracer 900?
Lot of people asking for Yamaha and Kawasaki bike reviews - I don’t have any connection with them at the moment but will see what I can do.
Cheers 👍
Was actually surprised to see English Electric is an hour from me, I thought itd be south England or Midlands going to have to poke my nose through the door
Awesome, they’re a social bunch and have a brewery next door! 👍
How long before you're ready to replace the GS with electric?
You are right it is coming it is the future but why does have to sound like a milk float? Got to be some other sound it can generate? (see what I did there). If it had spokes I'd put a playing card and a clothes peg on the rear swinging arm, showing my age I know. keep up the good work.
Unrelated to the bike but what are you using to record the display on your phone when you plot the route?
It’s just ‘Screen record’ on the iPhone - it’s natively built into the OS
Hi again. Quick question. What helmet are you using?
Cheers
Phil
Hi Phil,
I’m using the Ruroc Atlas 2.0 at the mo, got a few others to try out soon 👍
I would go electric if the insurance fully comp come down from what they are currently, I am thinking if the super sacco had a bigger brother I would use it for commuting to work. zap map app is good app, I would get the quick charger instead of the additional battery pack, means you can charge up quicker more often, shame that zero do not do the dc charging option.
I’m still not sold on electric bikes, as English Electric Motor Co is only 40 miles from my house i should go & try one our really 😎👍
You should
Hi Bruce - regarding the IAM I would love to see some 'advanced filtering' techniques - observation points, the law regarding zig-zags on the approach to and departure from zebra crossings when filtering in town.
Derran Stokes You MUST NOT park on a crossing or in the area covered by the zig-zag lines. You MUST NOT overtake the moving vehicle nearest the crossing or the vehicle nearest the crossing which has stopped to give way to pedestrians. Hope this helps.
@@philipharris2095 Thanks Philip the moving vehicle is the point I was uncertain about. Thanks for the clarification
Going out for a test ride on one today... just interested to try one...
I like these, find them fascinating. They must be a hoot to drive as they are so pliable when on and off power. If that was in the £10-13k range it would be in real contender for next commuter
Yep absolutely, the price is a big drawback at the moment but it’ll come down as demand increases and technology advances over time 👍
Hi! I've seen many reviews of electric vehicles, and nobody talks about the battery lifespan. Can you shed a little more light on this? Can you ask the manufacturer how many years the original battery pack lasts, how many charging cycles? And how much it cost to replace it? And does it cost something to dispose of the old one or do they accept it in return? Thank's!
There’s loads of info about battery lifespan in terms of cycles and warranty etc on the company websites, just check out the Zero and a Energica sites.
Would be interested with the premium model with the new bigger lighter battery .
Hi Bruce can i make three points on this vid. The first one is say i am out with the gang on our saturday ride with shall we say enthusiastic riding we normally do about 200 miles, at about 100 miles in i say sorry chaps got to stop for one hour to charge my bike i would get the finger so at this time in the evolution of electric bike it just not work for me.The second point is why don't bike manufacturers get the youtube thing it is a massive thing in the bike world and free advertising for them and not to say excellent for the likes of yourself. the last is about the IAM comment you must ride like you are invisible to all road users.top content rant over.
Aye that’s very true sadly Steve, electric bikes aren’t quite an ‘equal’ to Petrol yet in terms of practicality, but some models aren’t too far off. The new Energica’s are boasting ranges of around 130-220 miles with recharge times of around 25mins, so is love to give them a go in real world conditions to test that out.
I think manufacturers are catching on to the whole UA-cam/social media thing now. Certain brands like KTM and Triumph have been leading the way for a few years now and engage with ‘influencers’ regularly. Others like Yamaha and Kawasaki seem to be very late to the party, but I’m sure they’ll switch on eventually.
Good point about defensive riding, you can’t go wrong with that 👍
I'm struggling to have fun using calimoto recently.. initially it was really good but now even selecting the third option like yourself, you still can't ride faster than 50mph most of the time, and sometimes still get into those farm lanes and you can't see anything ahead in the corners. I'll try the second option "straight" roads more often.
I've found the same thing - the default routing option is too slow/twisty for me!
Great review as always man. Could you please test ride a Yamaha fjr1300 I have 2016 Yamaha fjr1300 myself I absolutely love it.
Thanks bud, I’d love to review an FJR but I don’t have any connections with Yamaha at the moment sadly 🤷♂️👍
Still haven't ridden one, need to see what I'm missing...
Can’t recommend them enough bud, great fun
Nice Video. What’s the difference between the 2020 and the 2021 Models. Greetings Hartmuth
Each year technology improves and so batteries improve. Bikes can go further for longer, and recharge faster👍
you want to try the hanway raw 125 and tell me what you think of it, it's what I've got and i definitely need a cruiser instead
Suggest the Sinnis Terrain 380 for a vid, or some sort of feature on airbag vests, something like Helite 👍🏻
I’d love to try the Helier but never had any approach from them. The 380 Terrain is coming soon though 😉👍
This holiday i was in Croazia and in the campsite they rent Electric motorbikes and i got One to see how It was using It and It was ok for that place but in the road for now i like the smell of petrol
Is it because of the silent bike that we are hearing more wind noise than usual?
No I it seems something has happened with my mic placement inside my lid? I’m getting a lot more wind noise in all my vids at the mo?
In your honest opinion Bruce , @14.00 when that jcb pulled out , do you think he would have possibly waited a moment before doing so, because he could hear a bike coming ?
Good video , but I think I'll stick with my new purchase Ktm1290r 😄👍🏻
Probably not bud, I doubt they’d hear anything inside the cab with the engine going 🤷♂️
I'm curious about electric but i think I'm an old dinosaur now. I've had my Firestorm since 1999. Big old v twin with lots of noise and character. It sounds like an old lancaster coming home from a raid! Maybe a test ride would help on a zero. Not going or able to buy one as i say I'm curious but would i miss the sound track and feeling from my v twin. The range in your zero is comparable to my storm. Charge, range anxiety would be forefront in my mind though. I'd like to know more about this bike
Energica Ego, would be great to see/hear your thoughts.
Could you do a video with iam about riding in the rain. Im fine and confident in the dry but when it is raining its a different story altogether.
No problem 👍
The same sarcasm as me Bruce with ...."your welcome".....pmsl....
Given that the Zero SR/S it touted as a Sports Tourer; I wonder - would you do a review on SatNavs - not just if they are suitable for a bike but how about if they are suitable for an electric bike?
Electric Vehicle suitable Eco routes, charging points as well as the options for twisty roads :)
A lot to fit into a small box :)
Yeah I think traditional sat nava to cater for that yet, but there are plenty of apps out there that allow route plotting via charging points. Good be a good idea for a vid actually, nice one Keith 👏👍
Bruce, any chance of trying to get your hands on an Indian scout bobber ?
Aye I’d love to! Hoping to do some work with Krazy Horse around this soon 👍
Hell yeah! It would awesome 💙
Need to get range and charging sorted otherwise it’s just to and from work and short trips. I’d love to be able to tour with 150 miles range and 20 min recharge it could work . It would have to be 2 up with luggage and motorway speeds too though
That's what my GB sticker on my bike means "GRAVITATIONALLY BLESSED" LOL
Nice video/bike. I've ridden most of the Zero range on a few occasions including the naked version of the one you are on. That instant full torque from the slight cracking open of the throttle will never get old. In fact the bikes really lend themselves to riding on what the IAM call Acceleration Sense. As a National Observer with the IAM for many years I've several IAM/Roadcraft/IPSGA explanation videos of my own if anyone cares to have a browse. I'll be interested to see what you produce in your next video with Stuart.
I'd be interested to see what Teapot has to say about trail braking into corners and its relative merits or complete pointlessness at normal road speeds, obviously love to hear your views too Mike. Have you got a vid on that? Must admit I haven't looked recently.
@@mathewbarker9930 Ahhh, the 'topic of the month/year'on UA-cam. 😉 I don't have a video on trail braking itself, but I do have one on getting the SGA phases of IPSGA completed in the correct order. ua-cam.com/video/lA2n-fT3CBw/v-deo.html The S phase (speed) may include braking and the aim is to get S&G complete before entering the corner/hazard. I've seen all sorts of discussions about the use of trail braking on the road and why you should do it, but riding to the Roadcraft method there is no need to try and carry that extra speed into the corner. Let me be fully clear, I am NOT saying you never brake on a bend. The situation may develop and require you to do so, and to be able to do that skilfully, but that is not trail braking, it is 'braking in bend'. 😀
I love the idea of electric bikes but the logistics of charging will always be a problem unless..........
The batteries are standardised across all manufacturers and available at all petrol stations pre-charged, you pull in and swap your battery for a charged one.
Can’t see that happening ever though, and there would have to be a charge.(£)
The back brake issue was a little worrying, was this a Friday afternoon bike?
Good review.
once battery technology improves massively and therefore range increases and the prices come down a lot yes we have a winner. Until then it remains a novelty to me and will not replace my daily bike.
What was starting range of Zero SR/S #zerosrs
An electric for daily commute may work well. But until the range is closer to 300 miles with a really quick charge time I’ll stick to the ol’ gas powered for actual touring.
Common guys click the like and comment. Great vids.
