Finally got it up and running. The only delays we had was because we realized we needed some extra parts (I’ll list that below) ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxihMYiJNXcHdbH-7ihymsLz61l7jVyb5O . So we have a loft where our current hvac just couldn’t seem to keep cool during the summer. We have been using a window unit since we bought this house over 6 years ago (all the houses in this neighborhood were built in the 80’s and majority of the houses built like ours use a window unit). I hate window units because they are just so noisy and the one we had really only cools one side of the loft. I had contemplated upgrading our current HVAC, but with all the rising prices these days, it would take years before saving up enough to do that. With the advice of my father-in-law (used to run an HVAC business), he recommended we get an inverter instead. We thought we bought everything we needed, but there were just a few other parts we didn’t anticipate needing (which is what caused most of our delay). My friend and father-in-law did all the work to get it installed and running and now we have nice cool air circulating nicely throughout the entire loft. It is very quiet and even the outside unit is much quieter than our main HVAC unit. Saved ourselves thousands getting this.

You’re right about the loop in the drain. Hi-wall splits like that shouldn’t have any sort of trap in the drain line. In stuff that requires traps, drop the short drain into a tun dish that is trapped after it, providing an air break before trap. Good videos mate

Time and time again you can trace a lot of issues down to installation 😩 great work as per 👍👍👍💯

Oh no. That will cost an arm and a leg. Probably best to remove the whole wall and ceiling and floor just to get access to all of the mold and remove it. Then also check the insulation on the pipes for possible condensation contributing to the water ingress.😰

I’ve worked on these heaps. You can flip the front cover up and run a 1/4” clear hose and get it straight into the drain/drain line connection. Then you can just blow it/suck it out from there.

Its definitely not a good idea to have that mini split hidden in the wall/ceiling like that. I would have also recommended removing the bend in the hose since you already had the wall open. And, instead of pouring all that water into the drain pan, maybe using a borescope pipe/hose snake would have saved time and water.

Would a borescope be useful in this situation where you're not sure where to open the wall? That way you just need a small hole big enough to fit the camera through to see what's behind which is easily patched. I've got one made by Klein that has helped me numerous times trying to locate stuff in tight spaces.

Not a bad way to go about it. No one will ever see the access panels and from the looks of it the tenants don’t care too much anyway 😅.

Wonder if it's icing up and the water is possibly from that? 🤔

Not sure if they realized how the concept of air conditioning works. Air flow is a good portion of how it functions
