It certainly looks to be one impressive keyboard. I would like to get one someday, and this video has convinced me even more. Just need to save up a little for it. I never knew it had SO MANY samples and such a powerful synth. I initially liked it for it's awesome clear sound quality I heard in some demos and it's features and effects. Now, I have two (or countless more) reasons why I should get one someday. Currently I have a very basic keyboard with 99 selectable instruments, 16 built in beats and a drumpad, it is also made by Yamaha. I use a regular PC and PC keyboard for synthesis. Something like the moFX6 would be like a dream right now. You seem to be very happy with yours, It's certainly well worth it's price.
theLuigiFan0007 Let me tell you about myself. I am currently 20. When I was 8 I started learning piano, learnt for 2 years. Then I moved to another country where I left playing for ~5 years and when I was 14-15 years old I pulled my old Yamaha PSR 170 off the shelf and started using the internet. The PSR-170 is a very basic board - 100 sounds and no touch sensitivity, no pitch bend. Eventually I grew out of it. My friend had a PSR 550 which was much better (It had pitch bend, good sounds, good keybed and arranger capabilities). I used the 550 with my high school band, playing all sorts of Prog Rock/metal (dream theater, liquid tension experiment etc.) and winning competitions. Then I moved again for University, left playing for another ~2 years. I couldn't take it anymore. I had to play again. I researched for over 6 months before buying my new keyboard because I didn't want to waste all the saved money I had. Till now I am self taught, and this keyboard will empower me. I will make my own music very soon, once my fingers are back in form. I'll create a separate channel and tell you about it when stuff is ready :)
Yamaha are good keyboards with good tones. These keyboards are cheaper versions of their main line of keyboards. This one is a budget version of the Motif XF. I play live with a Motif XS, which basically is a upper version to the Motif ES. I noticed that the XS had almost the same sounds as the ES, but some sounds were also new. I also have a Yamaha Mx49, which again have sounds of the Motif ES, XS & XF. It’s also a budget version of these boards.
Did you have to make adjustments on the concert grand piano like adding eq and reverb? the concert grand piano on mine sounds more electronic than acoustic.
Interesting stuff...plusses and minuses for both this and the Roland Fa-06..yamaha you can add your own samples, Fa-06 has that 16 button pad sampler for phrases but can't use them in the synth engine.
The Motif allowed to sample by importing a wav file and then sample it into a dedicated Voice playable all along the keyboard (ie the Sledgehammer Shakuhachi flute). Does the MOXF also allow this ?
I have never owned a Yamaha keyboard but just love Cubase. I do have a Roland G6 that has been the workhorse of my studio. I am still waiting for something innovative to replace my Roland G6. The Korg Kronos was a step in the right direction but I still love my Roland G6 better. I am still waiting.
I have a MOXF6. Love the organ sounds but want to use the Hammond like drawbars. I keep seeing the "Organ Emulator" as an included and free add-on but don't know where it is, nor how to install it or how to use it. Any suggestions?
It's something you can skimp on without people noticing. Unlike eliminating the Mod wheel for instance. An it's the reason I don't have this nor the MOX6... Neither the Korg Kross. A controller must have aftertouch, like it must have Mod wheel.
Hey Nick, thanks for posting this video, though I much prefer when you do your own reviews. In this case, I would have liked to know your own opinion about the flash capabilities. For example, would it take Akai or other common sample formats? Would it accept multisamples? In my opinion the flash is one of the most interesting capabilities of a unit in this price range, but I would like to see a review pointing out its limitations
Just a tad bit more stable, eh? Sounds rock solid to me. I never knew a Windows machine making it a month without reboot. Then again, a keyboard is mostly hardware controlled, a PC is mostly software controlled. It's like comparing apples to potatoes, impossible! LOL. :)
Do you know how I can undo a pattern I've just recorded? This is a great keyboard but the most unintuitive one I've ever owned, something as simple as this and I can't find it, thanks if you can help.
Is this keyboard good for rehearsing - I mean - jumping easily from sound to another and programming "setups" on the spot ? I have a Motif ES6 and Korg TR76 and I need a lighter keyboard for rehearsing.
hi..whereto get the moxf editor? and is it can still use if I never install the cubase AI since I buy this keyboard? really thank you for those who can help me
hi there i got this as an upgrae from my novation impulse 49 but i cant seem to get the sounds to play via my soundcard focusrite 18i20. . i routed the output to the line in of the 18i2 but no sound from the moxf is coming out. when i playback via headphones it works fine. any ideas would be greatly appreciated. cheers .i got cubase 9 elements but ableton is my main DAW for my productions.
Like the different articulations of for example the guitar sounds. I think I still prefer Kurzweil for strings though :) But can't argue with the price, sounds fair for a lot of synth.
I have a MOX6, I like the sound and the keyboard, but the design and layout of controls/buttons is shocking. It looks like someone had the buttons in their hand and sneezed them all over the synth.
8_2017 totally agree. I'm mystified how these reps can navigate this board with such ease. Have had mine for several years and still have to look up basic things on internet to do simple adjustments. Not very intuitive-forget using just the manual.
Am I right in assuming that the reason it doesn't sound as good as the MOTIF, especially when playing anything remotely sophisticated, is due to it's bad DAC? Does it output 24bit through USB? Would then, outputting the audio through USB, sending it through a computer to a nice interface, routing it through it's pairs of outputs and inputs with patch cables give it the MOTIF sound quality? Legitimate question.
+LemonSlice I thought I was noticing the same... but it still sounds good. They certainly got it right with the weight and one really can't go wrong with those Motif XF sounds. I really enjoy this keyboard and it fit my requirements well.
Robert A. Unfortunately the answer seems to be to get the Motif XF. I don't know what it is, exactly, but it just sounds and feels better as an instrument. The older Motifs are great instruments as well. And neither the MX should be discounted if you are fine with the feature set. There are also rack options for the older Motifs. So good amount of choices all around if you don't vibe with the moXF.
+LemonSlice If you run a full XF, and a MOXF into a scope, and compare the resulting waveform output, you will see that the two are 99.999795% identical. Any "difference" in sound you *think* you are hearing is an illusion, invented by your brain. It's a common thing that happens when comparing a $1000 instrument, and a $3000 instrument - your ears *expect* that more expensive one will sound better, so your brain makes you think it does. In a blind test, with a listener who has no idea that there is a $2000 price difference, the XF and MOXF will sound identical... Because they are...
looneyburgmusic Illusion, okay. But you can't illusion an XF while sitting or standing in front of a moXF. One feels premium, the other doesn't. It's like a nice business-class laptop computer compared to a cheap consumer laptop. They may share the same performance benchmarks, but the experience of using one is not the same. That said, the moXF is indeed a wow instrument for the price considering the sound and feature set.
LemonSlice Sure the full XF is built better, and it feels better, and has more in-depth controller options. it costs $2000 more... But the actual XF synth engine, what makes the sound, is *identical* between the two... So for experienced players, (like myself), who already have a "pro" level controller, (or several), the MOXF is a fantastic way to add the "XF" sound to a synth rig, without having to drop several thousand dollars...
Let me add....i sold my mo6 n bought the mox6. In terms of features.....definite upgrade. In terms of sounds....huuuuuge mistake. On the mox6 it has the XS sound engine but i can tell yamaha slacked on the amount of elements/samples for the sounds. Motif xs full grand sounds like heaven. Mox full grand sounds similar but not the same velocity, depth, or finesse. The original mo was definitely a clone of the motif es sound wise. Mox vs motif xs....they missed by a long shot. Hopefully the moxf sound engine is more spot on with the motif xf.
Kevin Lawrence I would bet money it could have to do with how it was recorded. It has every single wave from the Motif XS (XF?) and the same synth engine and the same voice names. So I am going to guess they did not leave out anything from the XS/XF. DAC could be different perhaps.
MoXF: All sounds are more detailed comparing to MoX. Plus MoXF can load samples. The XF means Flash Memory, you can put the sample on Flash Memory up to 4GB (But it's expensive). However, MoXF is not Motif XF! I can tell ya MoXF Piano sound is still not perfect like the Motif XF. Motif XF keybed, velocity, Synthersizer function are much more reliable, powerful for live performance. If you have enought money, get the Motif XF. But it's fine for buying MoXF, using it in Studio, Composing music.
Michael Bauers DAC is possibly the answer. The reason that some older synths had a better quality, broader detail in the sound. The Roland JD-800 was a rompler but apparently, it sounded better than all subsequent Rolands because its digital audio converters were of a different, superior order.
+Avi very bad to know , I was looking to buy this machine , I need your advice on something! I am looking for natural and real sounds like violin , saxophone, flute .. do you think I need to buy the moxf6. or Roland fantom g , X. series. thank you!
+Mohammed ELSanousi Yes definitely go for this synth because it has all the sounds of the Motif XF. The acoustic sounds especially are remarkably convincing and natural sounding with plenty of articulations.
In other moxf videos everybody just talk about the sounds but nothing about the technical aspects like sound tweaking, sampling and especially sequencer. The Yamaha synths has excellent sounds but it’s very difficult to get around the menu’s and that’s one thing I hate about it, I have to always get the manual to find where the settings are but Korg and Roland is much more user friendly.
They put so much in this EXCEPT what I am looking for - A SAMPLER! Why wouldn't they just let you sample directly??? Such a missed opportunity... my quest for an affordable keyboard sampler continues I guess... shame.

This keyboard doesn't have inbuilt speakers. I will have go pay extra 7k for speakers? Why doesn't it have inbuilt speaker if its the expensive one.. I would like to know any other keyboard in this range, please suggest
Motif is not at all boring. There's tons of depth to it. 8 layered elements in a voice. 8000 waves or something like that, one per element. Can velocity switch elements on/off. Great filter IMO. A huge number of parameters and assignable controls. Tons of effects, Can sample your own waves if you need to. A prophet has 1/100 the complexity. It's not a VA, but that doesn't mean it's limited. Ever owned one? I have owned two. I would not trade it for a Prophet except for cash reasons if I could re-sell the Prophet and then buy the Motif again. I also have a Virus, and yeah, the Virus is great because of 7000 sounds on tap and more VA type options, but again, that does not mean the Motif is limited. Not sure about the moxf6, but I find the Motif easy to use as my prime sequencer, controlling my Virus and drum machine.
Disagree. Workstations i've always found boring. Parameters i would never used and buried in menus. No thanks!! I need a knob per function. And i don't think motifs and tritons have an actual sonic personality.
Ignoring the user interface which I did not think was under discussion, and addressing the concept of boring only, I think you gave up too soon. If you can't find something you like with 7000 waves, countless params, assignable modulation and 8 oscillators, I put forth the theory you gave up way too soon, and are probably biased against that style of board. I have heard analog, was great, but there's other options
just who in the hell uses arpeggio sequences that they put in these things. it's I mild kick in the saq that I see live players transposing. now all this band in a box with one finger player reminds of the nasty, cheap hope organs of the 70's. 1kns of $'s and basically a toy. a person who actually plays like me feels vague embarrassment seeing in on his device. I bet if they got rid of all that filler and lite fluff I'd cost much less. having said that, this bit is a right sally
This dude is the reason I finally ended up with the moxf6. You should be proud, Dom!! :)

Sounds great. I will definitely check it out.
theLuigiFan0007 :) Save your monies now!
I keep coming back to this, I'm thinking off all that wave rom accessible to the synth structure, thats endless sound possibilities.
I would have liked to hear more of the stock sounds such as Organs, Strings, Synths, Brass Ensembles.....sounds I actually use on a gig.
Rocco Fiero nailed it!! Like he spoke more to the producers out there than the people who gig more
@@Vichdz828 Spoke more to the producers about this producer's synthesizer? Hmm, that sure is strange isn't?
@@Jason75913 more to the people who will produce with it rather than gig with it, I went with a Nord Electro 2 instead bc I gig more than produce
When is the Mutable Instruments modular stuff going to be up Nick?
Soon. We have a lot of stuff in the pipeline
Nice review/demo, but what was the camera guy thinking when shooting the display? Can't read it!
GREAT presentation!
Tomorrow I am gonna buy one...:)
Are you still enjoying your MOXF?
Can Yamaha montage voice work on this keyboard?
Yamaha are good keyboards with good tones. These keyboards are cheaper versions of their main line of keyboards. This one is a budget version of the Motif XF. but their PSR line is trash, piano patch sounds awful
Appegio system makes MoXF more like an arranger. You can play this Synthersizer as well as an arranger.
Very impressive sounds and articulations - Thanks Nick!
Dom - FTFY
Did you have to make adjustments on the concert grand piano like adding eq and reverb? the concert grand piano on mine sounds more electronic than acoustic.

I am hoping for an s90xf.
What string library is that at 9:13?
what's the name of the orchestral sample library played at 9:13 ??
The Motif allowed to sample by importing a wav file and then sample it into a dedicated Voice playable all along the keyboard (ie the Sledgehammer Shakuhachi flute). Does the MOXF also allow this ?
cuts to Nick holding maracas... great demo!
Does the MOXF 6 have vocal harmony capability?
The moxf6 is 899? Where? I've just seen it for 1199 everywhere
899 Pounds, UK price.
Accent recognition 101 fail
Just out of curiosity, is there going to eventually be a sonic lab review on the yamaha mx synth?
Does this have step edit in record mode? That was one of my favorite feauture in the motif es.
Hi ! Can someone tell me how to Sample sounds and play them on MOXF keybed via flashdrive? Can i actually do that at the first place?
"we can even go more spanish" LOL!!
I would have told him to go for it.
what MOXF Mean?
I’ve had mine for a few months now and love it, just wish it had the feel and action from the axiomPro. AxiomPro, best key action ever.
is this keyboard an upgrade from the XF6?
Sounds amazing and great performance by the demonstrator.
There's the Roland FA now..
when you play chord at the left hand, the harmony changes, is this keyboard works like an arranger ??
Does it have the Disco strings, scoops & falls
Talk Talk Talk....... Would love to have heard what sounds it has
I have a MOXF6. Love the organ sounds but want to use the Hammond like drawbars. I keep seeing the "Organ Emulator" as an included and free add-on but don't know where it is, nor how to install it or how to use it. Any suggestions?
Are aftertouch sensors expensive ? Is the dsp expensive, or is it marketing ? I don't get why they don't stick it on these boards.
What is the fuss regarding aftertouch??
James Reeno Because people like to use them as master keyboards too, and some synths are very expressive with modulations assigned to aftertouch.
It's probably marketing. If the moxf had aftertouch there would be barely any reason to get the flagship motif.
It's something you can skimp on without people noticing. Unlike eliminating the Mod wheel for instance. An it's the reason I don't have this nor the MOX6... Neither the Korg Kross. A controller must have aftertouch, like it must have Mod wheel.
good overview but like all of these presentations, more sounds and less talking would better.
Can yall show how to sample Pianos please thanks
Hey Nick, thanks for posting this video, though I much prefer when you do your own reviews. In this case, I would have liked to know your own opinion about the flash capabilities. My Motif XF6 has locked up. After being up for weeks or maybe months though. But more stable than a PC perhaps :)
Just a tad bit more stable, eh? Sounds rock solid to me. I never knew a Windows machine making it a month without reboot. Then again, a keyboard is mostly hardware controlled, a PC is mostly software controlled. It's like comparing apples to potatoes, impossible! LOL. :)

The buttons are the best part. They make everything easy. one touch or 50? One's always best

I want yamaha moxf 6 synth
What actually is the difference between the MoxF6 and the Mox6? I can't find the answer anywhere, even on Yamaha's website.
The main difference between the 2 is that the mox series has the sounds from motif xs while the moxf series has the sounds from motif xf
Let me add....i sold my mo6 n bought the mox6. In terms of features.....definite upgrade. In terms of sounds....huuuuuge mistake. What a treat to watch this guy instead of that Roland bozo - if you're going to pitch a keyboard, you should be required to know how to play keys!!!
can you till me , when changing from sound to another there is any gap or cuts??
+Mohammed ELSanousi Yes unfortunately. The seamless sound switching is only available in the newly released Montage.

you can edit on a laptop
Had the MOX6; got bored with it after a few months and went back to my Novation 61 SL MkII. It was a nice instrument I just prefer to work in the box.
Hola alguien sabe como activar el metronomo en el yamaha f0fx6 ??
For every possible option on the synth the comment is:"Its really powerful".
Can you switch between sounds without cutting sound that you use in that moment?

Note that Dom uses the correct name: 'Mo'-'X'-'F'. Not "MOX".
Casio spotted @6:09
Casio FTW, I'm all for utility when it comes to watches.
Very informative, thanks. That‘s what I Need.
Perfect exept no aftertouch
Why would anyone buy the flagship then? lol

this product dont have speaker???/so,we buy a new speaker...so,can u tell me which speaker is support in less price pls?????????
Dude looks like the boxer Amir Khan
This guy looks nervous.. the bald guy knows his stuff
So true 😅
so nice
I would really like this and I will pay
bella... ci sto facendo un pensierino...
It has got tonns of this and that but no aftertouch as quite expensive synth it is a shame.
does it have built in speakers?
Nope.

just who in the hell uses arpeggio sequences that they put in these things. it's I mild kick in the saq that I see live players transposing. now all this band in a box with one finger player reminds of the nasty, cheap hope organs of the 70's. 1kns of $'s and basically a toy. a person who actually plays like me feels vague embarrassment seeing in on his device. I bet if they got rid of all that filler and lite fluff I'd cost much less. having said that, this bit is a right sally
