    They sound equal. I´m listening on a professional recording studio with analog Mackie mixer, Alesis and all professional stuff. No perceptible differences here. Some little differences are due to the playing itself, which never is the same twice.

      Check your ears my friend. You need earphones when comparing them side by side and not some mackie mixer🤣. Alesis is more of a consumer brand and not exactly for professional. And stating brands won't mean you have good ears😂

    The MoXF has exactly the same sounds as the Motif XF, except for the sampling capabilities. What I like about the Moxf is the weight, it's very light while the XF, even the 6 is quite heavy.

    Just bought one and I love it!!! I have a Korg M3 and needed something lighter without compromising functionality, quality and power. One of the differences in the sound is the weighted action vs synth action. In all my years of playing, I've played the same boards in various sizes 61, 73, and 88 note; and the weighted versions always sounded more fuller and heavier.
    Also, the converters in the Motif XF are different than the MOXF. Other than that, they have the same Wave Rom and the Motif XF can play 16 parts at once in performance mode vs 4 on the MOXF. However, you can create 16 part performances in Song mode.
    Other than that, I'm absolutely satisfied and can't wait to use both my M3 and MOXF simultaneously.

      I don't even know what sounds we are hearing. Are they coming from the main outputs or are they coming through the USB port into the computer? Maybe this is all fake marketing to make you rush to the shops and buy a MOXF.

      @@TheTruthIsFiction It's literally the same sound engine. It's cheaper because it's got less robust housing/buttons/display, 1 flash expansion slot instead of 2, less features, etc. MOXF is also made in China whereas Motif was made in Japan.

    After owning every motif ever made.. I discovered the difference is when you compare the 8 to the 7 or the 6. There's a difference in the lower range that will make you think an entire octave is missing from the six or seven.. Also the 8's appear to put out more audio power than the other boards... I've programmed my xs8 and xs6 exactly the same.. But the items i mentioned earlier plays a role in making my 6 sound like a toy! Seriously!!!!

    Very similar but very subtle difference. I thought it was most obvious during the drum kits at the end -- the XF kick drum sounded rounder to my ears. I love my MOXF8. 30lbs less and sounds 95% as good -- that fits my bill!

Awesome key drumming btw... Cheers

  • @abdolreza82
    @abdolreza82 9 років тому +9

    It's interesting how people judge. First you should consider that they both have identical waverom. There is not mentioned what the recording settings are. MOXF has an internal sound card so the recording from MOXF can be done digitally but what about MOTIF XF? How is it done for XF? Is FireWire board installed? Otherwise you won't have the digital output MOXF is giving you.
    Also there is always a slight difference in the velocity of the played keys. How can you identically play with the same velocity.
    This comparison is only good to get a general understanding of how they both sound.

I had to listen very carefully to notice that there's a bit more warmth and presence on Motif XF-6 than MOXF6, specially in low frequences (probably some EQ would solve that). Mofx is a harsher thinner sound. Motifs got fuller rounder body, a clear winner. Im not sure why but my first thought was its due to superior converters and analog circuit on Motif. To a professional the Motif is the way to go. If you are an amateur and would like to save as much as possible mofx is good enough. If you dont hear these differences then obviously go with mofx

    For me, the biggest difference can be seen on the position of volume faders. While it is on its maximum position on MOXF, it is almost on the minimum position on Motif xf.

    • @alanjackson5911
      @alanjackson5911 6 років тому +1

      wagner Silva You are right about the volume levels but I’ve owned the moxf 88 for about a month now and the volume on most voices are not turned all the way up,for example full concert grand is set at 100 you can set it to 127 by turning the first knob where the 8 knobs are and it makes a world of difference and it makes the voice sound better. I don’t think a lot of people know about checking that that’s why the master volume is turned up higher on the moxf plus it’s a lot of things you can change and tweak on this board and it is an amazing board if you really dig into it

  • @arbous65

    Hi. I'm just interested in the piano sound differences. I don't know if there is a setting in EQ or attack control but to me MOXF has slightly more defined attack content and as a result makes the sound perceive more dynamic and more open sounding, and MOTIF sounds just slightly compressed or slightly less detailed. There is a little low mid frequency accumulation in MOTIF that may perceive fuller sound but when playing many notes it ends up hearing more note separation with MOXF (more transparent). These are differences of less than 10 percent so I doubt it would matter for the performance. However, if you had pianissimo playback of a note or a chord (without the pedal) and just hold the keys to hear the natural volume drop, you could compare the resolution and realism of the notes a bit better. A lot of decent and above piano sounds do well with velocities in the upper half of the range and reveal their weaknesses on soft and very soft notes.

    people just convince themselves its different to justify what they paid for the regular motif. which they are not different its the same sound engine and same sound set sound for sound. plus it has flash and direct usb hookup to your computer which makes it have a built in interface so it actually outshines the regular motif in this area and best part you can get the 88 key for 1300 to 1500 brand new its a no brainer to me i have both the motif xf and the moxf one for gigs and one for the studio

      Richard Noel ohhh man so you would rather use the native instruments piano then the sound from the motif Xf?? Why wouldn’t you just buy a cheap heavy weighted keyboard to use for midi instead?? I’m trying to find the best option for the studio. I appreciate it bro!

      Jeremi Licata I vary my set up I primarily do a lot of today r&b and hip hop. If your trying to get the most bang for your buck but want a powerful set up. I would go this route if it was me. I use the native instruments stuff a lot because it’s really good. I am a big Yamaha motif guy but the pianos that omnisphere has nowadays is just straight crazy. My set up is apple Logic Pro x 10.3 and studio one 4 for my daws. Native instruments for a lot of my go to sounds and omnisphere that I control with the motif and and I still do use the motif sounds from time to time because I am use to it then I use Splice which is crazy for inspirational sounds to start songs. With all of this I am using a 2013 MacBook Pro that I paid $350 for and maxed out to 16 on the ram and 2 tb running a I7 chip and bro I am so good to go for quite a while. Just between omnisphere native instruments and splice you got sounds for a few years.

    The only difference I hear is the velocity in which you play each keyboard. They both sound the same since they have the same sound engine.🤷‍♂️ The only difference between the MOXF and Motif XF resides in their hardware. the number of controls, the number of outputs or inputs and the materials used for their construction.

The motif sounds lightly warmer, fatter. depending on patches even has broader soundstage. but I say it comes down to fx engine and analog output stage since their raw waves began life the same way. I can tell you that the MOXF8 is different to the MOTIF XF, im not sure how this person is capturing but the MOXF-8 doesnt sound like the 1 he is playing, the one i used sounded muffled more muted sound. Maybe hes using some type of compressor or something to alter the sounds OR the MOXF-8 is controlling the sounds player on the MOTIF XF and in actual fact playing motif XF sounds. I decided against my purchase today and was let down by the poor sound on this unit

    Honestly I've owned both and have looked at yamahas website...all major audiophile arguments aside the motif xf has a color screen...both same expand ability minus fw, coax, and lan otherwise none...xf is also no longer made due to the montage...if you like the xf just get the rack mount board and an awesome midi controller...

    • @nr6664
      @nr6664 8 років тому

      Yeah I know...from what I've heard the rack has the same capabilities but if your looking for racks check out the integra-7 as a secondary. Hit me up anytime bro!

    Difficult to know witch one sound "better"...they have the same "engine"...but the différence could be in the outpout's power, (or in the keybeds too) certainly higher in the motif than in the MO XF.

    same sound obvsiouly but definitely more power from the xf6. could it be the power itself or some eq differences maybe? or i'm wondering could it have been from the different output-input connections in both the keyboards. Anyways thanks for the great comparison video!

    • @Lael128
      @Lael128 8 років тому +2

      +Jade Pascual If you're just looking for a 61 key, you should go to a music store and play around with one, and go through the menus and such to see which is easier to work with. But for the price point of the XF6, I'd just go for the MOXF8 to have the 88 keys.

    I spoke to Yamaha and they said the Motif xf has a 10db hotter output which would probably explain some difference in sound even when matching level.

    I have MOXF6 (with flashcard). Thinking about replace with Jupiter 50.
    JP50 feels great touching. ( better than moxf6)
    My set up
    Nord Stage 2 HP76
    Yamaha Moxf6
    Access Virus TI Snow
    Nord Lead A1
    Moog Miniature
    Novation KS5
    Kronos 2 is a great instrument.
    JP50 has 76 keys which is comfortable for pianists.
    I will let go KS5, Moog, ti snow and get a Virus Ti2.
    Nord Lead A1+MOXF6=Kronos 2 61
    I will uptade my set up

    If you caint ear a difference you need a new pair of ears or monitors! There more bass and high freq also more depth in the sound of the XF6! Listening on Dynaudio BM5a speakers and Yamaha UR824 Interface!

    • @tommymandel
      @tommymandel 8 років тому

      +Kenth Llemit Not exactly the same to my ears in the store. Even if the samples may be the same. They may be 16 bit versions instead of 24 bit, for example. Maybe the Motif XF has state of the art top-end DtoA converters that cost $100 or more... How could something that is 1/2 the price afford to be the same? Unless it's the extra features like Ash points out. When I worked for a synth company, they said the CPU chip inside the instrument was one of the more expensive bits. Maybe the Motif XF plays back at a higher sampling rate.
      But very close, and with its advantage of lighter weight and affordable, it may be a better choice!
