ive been trying to play this song sober and it is impossible. a person has to be high as a kite to really dig into this song.
bro fr
acid man
I'm glad that I forced myself to learn to fret with my thumb years back just like Hendrix did. I still predominantly use barre chords the standard way but having the ability to fret chords with your thumb is INCREDIBLY POWERFUL. It allows you to free up one, two or maybe 3 of your digits for embellishments or licks without having the bass string become muted.
Any beginners should try to learn as much different styles as possible, even if you don't see how it would help you in your style, learn it anyways and I promise you'll discover a way to incorporate it into your playing.
Good advice Bilb Ono.
I never bothered to learn the G chord with pinky, middle and ring. Every once in a while I find I need it in a fast progression. I've gradually gotten so I can play it on a guitar with a narrow neck, at least.
I appreciate that you are re doing your old tutorials to make them even better! Keep it up
Thanks, will do!
@@MartyMusic Please do Hey Joe with all the embellishments like this great video! thanks again
Jimi’s masterpiece!
One of many
One of em lmao
Ever heard of a little known track called LITTLE WING??!!
@@tylerdurden5122 Another masterpiece, but Voodoo Child is one of his defining song. Everyone knows Purple Haze, Foxy Lady and All Along the Watchtower, but Voodoo Child is his definite signature piece as Eric Clapton’s Crossroads.
@@GaryBook Voodoo Child is just as well known as those, I'd say his true unappreciated masterpiece is probably 1983
I will never get tired of “Hey what’s up you guys, it’s Marty Schwartz here”
I have played on and off for many years, but seriously picked it up a year ago. I play everyday now for several hours, and when I learn a new song, 90% of the time it’s from you. Thank you!!! By the way - just turned 65. I will never stop learning!
good job man :))) keep it up. Music is alive!!!!!
That's awesome 💯
My son was working at Sweetwater and met you briefly. I bought a Gretsch G5220 paired with a Marshall MG15FX. Learning this Voodoo Child and am in hog heaven. Thank you Marty Music. Rock on. You have immeasurably made a difference in this old man and his new relationship with music,
You are honestly the best guitar teacher on UA-cam. I've watched multiple tutorials for a massive amount of songs I love...and you 1) always have the song I'm looking for 2) make it easy for beginners to understand, and 3) sound a lot better than anyone else. Serisoul, I WATCH ALL THE VIDEOS...and you're the best!
i jus want to say thanks marty. i bet it’s hard to really understand the impact you’ve made on guitar players all over the world cause we all are just in each others screens at the end of the day but you’ve made an impression on a countless amount of people and inspired those young and old to pick up this awesome instrument. love the positive attitude and attention to detail. keep rockin man ❤️🎸
Sometimes you put the exact song up that I'm learning. It just blows my mind
Marty taught me my first jazz guitar lick that I have been playing for over 13 years since. Really glad to see him still putting out new tutorials
This is a great lesson, Marty. You really capture the rhythm of the song and I think that’s most important with this song in particular.
That’s some voodoo right there! I was just starting to learn this and you posted it!
I never learn a new tune anymore without first checking out Marty. If he has a lesson on it, his take is always a great stepping off point. Then I like to learn the bass line and look for other versions if they’re out there. Yeah I forget shit if I haven’t played it in a few months, but I can always come back here for a refresher.
I just started lessons yesterday thank you Marty for teaching me so much and putting myself in a good spot to be able to learn things so much easier. The guy asked me how I was teaching myself for the past 3 years I said if you know Marty then you would understand
Whenever i hear this riff...there comes a smile on my face 🔥🔥🤘😈
Right on time! I just got my Fulltone wah
Hi Marty just wanted to say I’ve been watching your videos for ten years now. In fact you were the first and only person to ever teach me the guitar! Still remember the first song I learnt from you, “Wish you were here” by Pink Floyd 😎 you’re awesome mate never stop 👌
Greetings from Italy Marty! Thanks to you I improved so much in one year!
Great to hear!
Thanks a lot Marty, I loved learning and playing this, just need a WAH pedal now.
Brilliant playing btw 🤙
I've waited for this moment. 🙌
Awesome song and lesson! Thanks Marty!

So hyped for your Hendrix course…I’m sure my neighbors will hate me but I wanna make some noise
Marty, you are a MASTER!
I try
Awesome tutorial! I bought the same amp after watching your videos but what settings are you using? Sounds so good. Thanks!
You taught me the SRV version now your teaching me the Hendrix version your the absolute best
Great lesson Marty! Wish you were around forty-five years ago when I was fumbling away at 13 years of age with an old Hendrix Vinyl LP, [ I believe it was "Electric Lady Land" ] repeatedly lifting and replacing the turntable's needle, over and over, as I tried my best to decipher this classic tune on my old El Degas Les Paul copy - Again, a great lesson to be sure!!! - now, at almost sixty years of age, I can finally play "Voodoo Child" in its entirety with a touch of authority to boot!!! Cheers Mate!
Thank you Marty for another banger of a video! I wish I could like this 69,420 times . . .
Love you Marty
There's guitar teachers, guitar players. Then there's Marty. Thank you so much for all the lessons
This is it right here!!! Thanks Marty
You bet!
Loving the SUHR guitar!
Amazing man, just amazing❤️
Brother you are the best guitar teacher i ever saw. god bless you and keep going doing what you love, which is inspiring us to the limit.
Can you please do a tutorial for "Rory Gallagher - i am not awake yet"?
Would be awesome Bro🙏
Hey Marty, thank you for the Voodoo Child (Slight Return) guitar lesson and tutorial. Jimi is one of my top favorite guitarists.
Cool, thanks!
Bros name is burger HAHAHAHAHA
YEEEEEAAAA!!!!!! Just what I needed 😂
Ngl that puckup selector bend thing actually blew my mind, I fell off my bed I was that blown away, I guess that's why he was the goat
I love it...lessons on wah!!! Could you teach Junior's Eyes by Black Sabbath?
Well presented, Marty! You corrected a couple of mistakes I have been making in this song!
Still have my vinyl recording of this landmark album! We could not believe the sounds we were hearing from Jimi on Electric Ladyland. Cheeck out "House Burning Down" You can hear the fire at the end!
I don't think he ever played it the same way twice and the SRV version has differences as well. I tried to replicate the original Hendrix recording.
Thank you Marty
Great magic
I appreciated the attention you paid to the wah technique. It’s an essential part of the tune and let’s face it, it’s a really cool toy to eff around with.
Hey Marty ! Would love a tutorial on Love or Confusion by Hendrix , Great underrated solo. anyways keep up the good work
I’ve learned more from you than any other
I kid you not I wanted to learn how to play this for about 4 days. Thinking Marty surely has a lesson. And now delivered!
Subscribe! Subscribe!
I just got Jimmi’s genius for the first time. Once it has been seen it can not be unseen.
Thought I was having de ja vu then realised this is the Hendrix version not the SRV- easy in theory but still getting my head around muting / scratching / picking individual notes from first vid! Art in itself ! what guitar is that couldnt see in the collection ?
Nice lesson Marty, a jam in E Minor. There is another you might consider teaching. Ronnie Montrose, Rock Candy where the intro is " just as many Eminor pentatonic licks as you know ".
Two great intros along similar lines.
You've infiltrated us in Northern Ireland for which we are grateful Marty!!
That's cool really epic!
Thanks!
Thanks for the tutorial marty! Can you specify the pedals you're using? Also, some polyphia tutorials are highly requested! Thanks a lot, much love :)
Amazing!!!
Just followed your Wind Cries Mary lesson….seems only logical that I try this one next!!
Holy shit Marty, you nailed this one.
FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is such a fun riff to goof around with, I can't get enough of Jimi. For sure my personal favorite guitarist, just above Slash and Tom Morello
Goof. Around with.. okay bro
I liken the latter part of this sounding like two wild animals having a fight! It's a truly amazing noise he gets out of that guitar. There's also a part where, just after he sings "I just wanna say one last thing", I think, where there is three great muted slides. Those sound absolutely awesome and I would love to copy that sound.....if only I had one clue as to how he did it. Hendrix did a lot of slides on the thick strings. He was the king of the slides. He could just about make a guitar talk, which he almost did on the track Rainy Day, Dream Away from Electric Ladyland. 54 years after this song was brought out, it is without doubt still one of the heaviest songs I have ever heard. 😎🎸🎸
*Hello mister Marty, can you write down your boss katana panel settings PLEASE ( like what's your gain , bass, mids, treble knob positions etc ? That would mean a lot to people I'm sure.*
Oh man I've been waiting for ages to see you cover this one man. I appreciate the help. Keep on rockin in the free world and doot doola doot do...
Rock on!
Trop trop trop fort ❤
Class MM
😄😺❤️ Thank you for this detailed everything❣️
I like the waka waka or chicki chicki.
Cool marty
Thank you so much
You're most welcome
Marty: How do you like that Suhr? I have two of them (in lefty). Love both!
Dang this will be my next project right now I'm working on money by pink Floyd! Right on!
Thanks you ❤️❤️
I watched this whole video hoping youd explain the turn around/chorus whatever its called. I cant figure it out. Oh well. Great video as always. Thanks marty. Stay hydrated ❤
I love u Marty
hey marty, could we get a tutoriall for cherub rock and only shallow?? you're a lot easier to follow than most tutorials. thanks for doing what you do
I swear, Marty's a god, once I want to learn something it's like "poof" and it's on yt lol
Great lesson, love this song, one question: Im new on this tune down, if I tune down a half step...is the bass tune down a half too?? Or stays in their stander tuning?? Thank you Marty!!
Well I stop right next to the thumbs up button and I chop it down with the edge of my hand
You CANNOT play this masterpiece without feel. It must be felt more than played. You just go with it. Either you have it or you don't. And it's never spotlessly played. Spotlessness is for nerds.
Started learning at 32 from marty 5 years ago 💯
Jimi is a god!
Hi Marty, big fan! Great video tutorials! I wonder if you can do a tutorial for Getting You Home by Chris Young. The chord has some variations and I struggle with the strumming! Hope you can see this and thank you!
The beste !!!! ❤❤❤❤🎉
Hey marty ive been a fan since i was little, i was trying to learn a song the other day for my dad, but i couldnt find any tutorials anywhere. Is it possible you could make a tutorial for "Requiem for a dying song" By Flogging Molly
I can't tell you how excited I am for my wah pedal to come
