What are your thoughts? Is it worth the time spent cutting stones like this?

All are worth something. Experience is gained by practice. Just differences in hardness can make a difference to how minerals differ. So, yes. Worthwhile. 😊

Great video, intricate work on a dremel, good job
I agree that cutting stones with low colour potential, still teaches you a lot

They may not be epic in color but hey like you said you gain experience in every cut. Personally I think they look good and you did a great job on them. Nice to see one like the big one that isn’t a typical shape.

freeform are fun and I think are probably harder than a traditional shape(when it comes to smoothing and polishing

You sure do get great polishes TOG. And the blue was great ! I would definitely have cut it no matter what. Still cool.

you could drill a hole in the big one and make a pendant.

      K. Watched the whole video. Still impressed TOG! If the colour bar in white opal isn't near or at the top it might not shine through so much. I did a tiny one as practice and before I knew it green pin fire all over

Maybe I could have explored it a bit further, but the return probably wasn't worth the time investment.

Because you can! If I wondered why I try out stuff. Just because a tomatoes crop wasn't all used, always green tomato pickles. OK. You lot been doing it for years. I'm into the first now. (3). Hours on fossil. 25 hours. Roy teased. It has lovely bits of red, gold, blue, etc. Could possibly cut a couple of nice gems. Will I do it? Of course not. Carving first free-form. Got fire agate nodules free of crud. Why did I persist with a mangled right arm? Because NO effort is ever wasted. So, I can drive the implements now. A bit. I could have thought to give up. Started on a broom,(no comment from you. Wasn't room for both of us!) Had to learn sweep. Balance therapy. The is never waste if more experience comes with it. I'll fall on my bum lots, but it's how you learn to stay upright! LOL 😊

all stones have value some more than others , i had a small dish of what you can say junk , one day dident have much to cut then went through the junk stones saw a tiny flash through the rubbish cut it and turned out a very good stone just goes to show you never know what is beneath
