i probably just kicked the tripod leg. it wasn't windy at all.

While I have you guys... I'm thinking of taking a trip to the grawin dumps (where the miners dump their spoil) in a month or so. What I'm planning to do is just go to the piles of potch and just retrieve a few hundred pounds of it- unsorted, ungraded. Would you like me to close my eyes, measure out a pound or so and mail it to you? Mystery black opal potch

@@ThatOpalGuy My mom was a farm girl, born and raised through the depression years. The entire family were share-croppers to survive. If no one knows what that is it is working in another farmer's fields for a portion of the crop, instead of money. They still live on dirt roads to this day! Anyway, she was taught as a child to 'read' the weather. They had to stay in the fields as long as possible, but surviving a huge storm was just as important. My mom taught me how to do it, too. Amazing how clouds in the distance show you so much! Hail acts like a prism for light. In the daytime hours hail refracts light differently depending on if the cloud was between you and the sunlight thus appearing a green, pink, or purplish hue. Hail size is also a factor, the larger the hail and higher up in the cloud, the more intense the colors. In your video, the lightning was the 'sun' and the hail size must have been very large.

sadly, not stars. those are either dust on the sensor, or dead pixels. some COULD be just dust on the lens.

Yes. I tried to get a photo of the orange glow with the phone. I should have used the DSLR.
