      Mike Raskin I started out watching the same exact way, until I saw the Dyno vids for the Skar RP 2k and the Orion Xtr 2500. It blew my mind that you could get a real 2k amplifier for $220, and I couldn't resist buying one. Same for the Orion, which I also now own, and it's been a lot of fun playing with stereo equipment again. I don't regret it at all, especially for what I spent to have a bunch of fun.

      @@catch22frubert this guy should get a bonus check from these amp manufacturers he is doing the good work showing the real rms ratings on these cheap amps otherwise we have no guide as to what we are getting. Its to bad the manufacturers don't just do that but then the noobs would bug out.

    I have a BRX 1516.1d. Paid $120 for it new. It may be over rated a little, but I would recommend if you buy hifonics get at least 100 more watts than you'll need to be safe. The price isn't bad if you keep you expectations realistic.

    More folks should subscribe to Ryan's Patreon. He has a great list of amplifiers to make videos from and I am sure he could use a little coin to help him along. His videos helped me make a better choice in buying gear, and avoiding pitfalls was well worth it. Help a brutha out!

    A couple years ago I bought the Hifonics BRX 3016.1D thinking it was made in korea like the older brutus amps. It turned out to be the worst amp I ever had!! Not only that it didn't do rated power, it overheated very fast even on good electrical

    What a damn shame. I used to run a 2007 model year Hifonics Brutus BXi2608D (never dynoed it). It pushed three dual 4ohm 15" Alpine Type R subs with coils in parallel and subs paralleled at roughly .67-.8 ohms depending. My girlfriend lived 2 1/2 hours away and I made that 5 hour round trip 3-5 times a week usually and had those subs cranked the whole way and it always amazed me that the amp never really got too hot. I knew when I added the third sub I was begging for trouble but I never had any and I played the shit out of that amp for hours at a time. That was the last Hifonics I owned and I have always been so impressed with the abuse it took. Bought it at a flea market in the parking lot. Sketchy dude walked up and asked me if I needed an amp because his truck was broke down in the lot. Played it for me and I bought it. Sketchy all the way around and still that amp never let me down. I'm not kissing ass for Hifonics but this was my only past experience with them and it was surprisingly good. What a damn shame with what they are putting out now.

      Odious Ktenology
      Actually my problem back then was that I wanted many pieces and I didn't want to get caught. Seemed easiest to me to only date women that were far away. Their friends didn't know my friends ya know. Purposely wouldn't use Myspace (yes back then) or Facebook to stay under the radar. Played way too hard back then. Internet dating was fairly new back then and after a while it was too easy at times. Nothing to brag about man. Learned a lot from being young and stupid.

    It is not so easy to just whip out a new heatsink for each model. It is way more cost effective to try to use the same heatsink cross-section for a whole product line...just use different lengths. I used to machine the heatsinks for MTX Thunder amps and they all used the same extrusions, just machined differently for length and bolt patterns.

    Thanks for another great video Ryan. A couple of years ago when shopping for amps locally, I found the Hifonics amps to have the least information on specs. It was kinda sad to see Hifonics have the same vague information as the really crappy brands. It was impossible to make a descision based on looking at the amp. Sadly, this test shows Hifonics belongs with the Crunches of the market now.

    It's a 900 watt amplifier. They rate it at 1100 RMS. So they over rated it by 300 watts. Ehhh not bad. A kicker DX 2ohm stable 1000.1D puts out 1,000watts at 2ohm. Won't let you play 1ohm. And costs around 250$ dollars. The kicker amp is really nice but this hifonics is not that bad. If you want a coo lil 1,000 watt System that consists of 2 dual 4 ohm subs, I think the hifonics is the way to go. Get 2 Square hifonics BRZ12SQD4 and that hifonics amp, and I guarantee, your gonna be LOUD at 1ohm. Orrr get that 2 ohm stable 1000 watt DX amp from kicker and get one 15in L7.
    Your gonna be thundering. So moral of the story, it depends on the application. This amp might be what you need. The irony is, I have 2 Square hifonics BRZ12SQD4 subs and the 2 ohm stable 1,000watt Kicker DX amp currently in my car and it thunders. I got the subs wired down to a 4ohm final load because the the amp will no work if I wire it down to 1ohm. It cuts off like hell. It only likes 4 & 2 ohm. So I'm pushing 550 watts to my subs, which isn't alot. But man oh man does it slap hard. These subs are rated 600 watts RMS a peice. I needa give em more power, but with 500 watts to split, it sounds really nice. That kicker amp thunders. I need a hifonics amplifier in my life though so I can run these subs like their ment to be ran. Love your videos Derick aka big Dwiz. Hey I'd like to see that kicker amp reviewed. The 2ohm stable version. It's a 2011 model I believe. It's called KICKER DX 1000.1 it's truly 2 ohm stable. It will not play correctly at 1ohm final load.

    800+ Watts for $120 is not a rip off. Especially 4yrs ago when this was made. This was an amazing deal back then, and still very good now. They are even cheaper now.
    If you cant build a system that blows your eardrums out with 800 watts, then you are doing something very, very wrong.
    The idea that an amp is trash just because it doesn't push the numbers on the box is just nonsense.

    that's awesome you have your first amp back. I have 2 of the z400 amps and i love them. i think the boards are gorgeous and well made,way better made than the maxxsonics hifonics amps imo. They use blue anodized aluminum fet heat sink clamps, gold colored samwha caps, a blue colored pcb board, really nice looking board. They were made by api before they went to maxxsonics. I consider these the last of the good hifonics amps. Korean made I do beleive. glad I seen this.

    Love the videos, but not understanding why you dislike downward angled terminals. They allow better clearance if mounting the amp under a seat. They also look nice when tucking all the wiring under the amp. Also the less drastic angle also means the wire insulation won't be pulled back as much exposing the bare wire.

    Yeah I should probably take my xtr2500.1 off my sub box... it seemed to be the lesser of 2 evils at the time, because where I had the amp mounted prior to my box behind the seat... people kept pushing the seat back and crushing my rca's and I wasn't having that.

I don't have it mounted on top of the box, it's on the side of it on the passenger side(single cab f250 as you may know)because my box is basically the center console. Lacking room in my truck lol. Especially with the xs power D5100 behind the seat and my 4 channel behind the seat on drivers side. It's been alright for awhile now. I am terrified of it getting messed up though. Love that amp.

      BaSsAholiC You can use any number of things. Rubber washers , sound deadener, silicone spacer. A quick trip to any hardware store and you can find a solution. I have the same Orion Xtr 2500.1, and I mounted mine with clear silicone spacers at the corners. I've also used rubber washers and sound deadener, though I recommend 2 layers if you use that solution.

      Prepping for the new amp, looking at fusing, and found some interesting things. First, the manual for the 1116.1d says it should have a single 60A fuse. We see in this video that it actually has a single 80A fuse. Now the 1100.1d manual says it has 2x60A fuses, but mine only has a single 60A.

    I have a 3200 ZXX they are pretty power hungry and require a super clean signal. I have a Battery in the back with 0 gauge coming from the front. 4 gauge to amp, 2 Baby P1 10's in a ported ASC box, Audio Control LC2i line out converter and a Epic Center and it drastically helps out with overall sound quality. I had it hooked up previously slamming (check out my vid) pretty hard with everything expect the LC2i and it burned out my 2 sets of single 15 setups, all from a pretty dirty signal...But now its super crisp and hits harder than the 15 just not as super loooow.

    Pretty sure my Skar LP-750.1Dv2 puts out more than that amp does at 2 ohms! I only paid $109 for mine. :) The Hifonics isn't a bad amp, but needs to be accurately rated! It appears that Hifonics just can't do that with any of their amps these days.

    Been doing the amp on the box for years now problems at all.... 5STAR car audio even does it & has never had 1 bad 1 from that either!
    So the playability of the amp getting distroyed really depends on how lazy you are at bolting it down & what are you using for feet to allow air flow aswell as flex protection the install is 90% of the reliability!

    I was thinking of getting a hifonics monoblock amp for my dual 12inch kicker comps. Your show has shed some light like a escort coming to my house and she looks good a far but far from good looking and the pictures of her on the internet was not her and she wants to give you a happy ending for 180.00, now I won't stand for that happening so I am not going to stand having a amp needing viagra to pump my subs. I will do some more research on trying to find a monoblock amp and a escort. Companys like Boss, Rockville, planet Hollywood, blaupunk, these company's should be shut down. I dont understand back in 1989 I had 2 15 inch Pyle drivers subs that pounded. I use to cruise Modesto off of McHenry on cruise nights, I was bumping hard, meeting girls didn't need a escort I had Pyle drivers in my civic. Now some these company's from back then got fat making money and now they make crap. Rebuke these company's. Thet need to be shut down and they need to pay restitution to people that purchased there garbage and something blew or became broken. I even heard cerwin Vega amps suck. Back in the day there speakers blew easier then most so at that time I got redlines instead. All this nonsense has put bags under my eyes and I can't even blow clouds to make me to a place where I can wear calveritchie pants from chess king and not be made fun of. So back to the drawing board I need a monoblock amp so I can bump Egyptian lover when I'm on the road here in northern California where the BBWs eat at Hometown Buffe and the latinas make perfect wives and where blowing clouds gets you to see the shadow people.

    Hifonics does not state in their specs that the 1100 watts is an RMS power rating.... I saw a dyno test on a 3000 watt Brutus that peaked at over 4000 watts RMS while playing music. I have always been confused as to why amp dynos are done with test tones rather than with the type of media they are actually going to be used to amplify in the real world....

    I got another question for you, why is using the bass boost not advisable? Does it really add that much clipping to the sound? I got a Rockford-Fosgate amp and actually when I leave the bass boost setting all the way down I get virtually no bass at all! The only way to actually get any bass out of it is to crank up the bass boost setting otherwise there will be hardly no bass at all if the bass boost setting is left all the way down, and I do have all the other setting adjusted correctly on the amp and head unit!

    So what is it. In the beginning you said it was built well then in the end you said it wasnt'' after you delivered sub-par voltage to an amp that loves voltage and music. I love my brx it delivers everytime . Hi fonics has been around since the beginning and yes they had some shitty lines of amplifiers but i have my brx on dual 2/0 power and ground 14.4 volts or better and it knocks the shit out of my truck. The BRX line always did rated while playing music and giving it enough juice.

    I don't understand Maxxsonics as a whole. They are all over the place with ratings and reliability depending on the brand and model. How do you not know what you are doing by now? The only half decent brand they have left is MB Quart, and even that seems iffy.

    • @catch22frubert
      @catch22frubert 6 років тому

      Ryan Blankenship Maxxsonics is an audio conglomerate, with 5 different brands being produced. How on Earth do they not test and accurately rate thier amplifiers? They can throw money at lighting and packaging just fine, but they can't test or rate thier equipment properly? It's obvious that they don't give a crap about thier products. It's a shame they control names like Hifonics and MB Quart and Autotek. At one point, those were all decent brands.

    • @catch22frubert
      @catch22frubert 6 років тому

      Ryan Blankenship Thanks for doing all these tests. Knowing what to stay away from is important. Hopefully folks will know to stay away from Maxxsonics now. Misinformation and marketing tricks seems to be the norm for them, and that's obviously not cool.

      A few of the Soundstream units do their rated power. They also share a couple boards with the PPI side as well. But Maxxsonics as a whole has really crapped on some great car audio names by buying them and turning out crap like this.
