  • Introducing "Classic DJ Gear," a new series from DJcityTV hosted by Houston's Mister Remix.
The first episode features the Vestax PMC-07 Pro, or as Remix calls it, "the original king of the two-channel scratch mixer scene."
Released in the '90s, the PMC-07 Pro was Vestax's first two-channel battle mixer. It became a standard for hip-hop DJs and turntablists around the world.
Remix looks at the pros and cons of the PMC-07 Pro, along with how to modify it, where to buy it, and how much to pay for it.

we used to cut a small square off a credit card then screw it down at the end of the crossfader to move the end stop in to reduce the dead spot on the fader to 0. Worked really well

i loved this mixer.......played out on it a lot but sadly never owned one - too expensive. The fader curve adjustment was totally new to me and both a god send and a game changer. This shaped my view on further purchases. About 6 months before that I had the choice of buying an Intimidation Apex or the Mixstick at my local DJ shop. Having no idea what I was buying i went with the Apex......how i regretted that.

I can vouch for this. I owned a 07Pro before I went to a RANE TTM-56S and that 07pro was amazing but the sound quality was not as good as the RANE & Technics mixer. I did also have to buy the rare Vestax fader gap tool which was 2 tiny rubber pieces that went on the ends of the fader to give a much sharper curve cause the built in curve on the 07pro was not enough.

My dream is that some day a company will make midi controllers/keyboards with this same build feel.
Imagine your midi controller/keyboard felt like one of these mixers. Solid metal housing, no plastic B.S. pots that didn't wiggle and had decent resistance when turning them, smooth premium feeling faders.
I can't help but feel disconnected these days, when I'm using these plastic controllers to automate say a Minimoog or some other vintage synthesizer plugin. It just doesn't feel right to me.

Also, simultaneously, Rane was quietly releasing the TTM-52 and TTM-54 mixers, which very few bought, but enough people started talking about the quality of the Ranes that when the Rane TTM-56 came out a few years later, it was pretty much over.

It’s possible that the 05 sold more, simply because it was priced lower. But as far as features go, I’m sure the 1/4 master out were more ideal, and the eq faders were more appealing than the rotary style on the 05.

Rane DJ mixers were out already when the 07 was released. If you were tired of an 05 or 06 you got a Rane or an Ecler, not an 07 because the sound quality was clearly better. You are completely ignorant of turntablism in the 90s if you honestly believe the statements in this video because they are extremely misinformed.

You way overstate the importance of the 07 - it was never the main mixer of the 90s turntablist scene like the 05 (released in 1995) and the 06 (1998) were. The 05 was a HUGE deal, and so was the 06, but the 07 wasn't used in the classic era. Check out q bert's video discussing the importance of the 06 after the revolution of the 05 ua-cam.com/video/cUgvEgrrDJo/v-deo.html
