It's the depth of storytelling and the fact they didn't overlook any of the backstories for its giant roster which is why I consider it the gold standard of Final Fantasy games. Well, maybe Umaro and Gogo are pretty much throw-in characters, but you don't unlock them until well into the World of Ruin that they can't really be fully fleshed out. There was a rumored backstory back in the day for Gogo that she was actually Setzer's lost love in disguise after she crashed her airship during Setzer's backstory reveal. As far as main characters go, I've always considered Terra to be the main for the first half and Celes the main of the second - another reason it's so great. Lastly, a pro-tip for noobs: don't upgrade your Odin magicite to Raiden magicite until you've leveled up each of your characters at least 10 times with it as it's the only magicite which gives a speed bonus upon levelling up.
I’ve been reading up on rumors about Gogo. Apparently shadows old partner could be gogo, or even a wild theory that emperor ghestal is gogo. Who knows! Really fun to speculate though. Clarification on the 64K memory thing: Any single song needs to fit into the 64KB ram of the SPC700 sound processor, but that doesn't mean all the samples in the game and all the musical data take up less than 64K. The end boss music is five separate tracks that can use the 64K spc700 ram for more than just one song's worth of data. The sound samples probably take up closer to 300K or so, with some repetition across songs but enough variety to create the massive sound track. I haven't checked how much total space the sound sample dump takes up so I might be off on that guess, but around 10% of the total ROM size wouldn't surprise me.

Great video man. Seemed to be a fairly impartial take that really gives a good well thought out synopsis of why some of the things in this game are legendary. 👏
We all have our generational preferences, affected largely by life itself. I first played FFI, was enamored with FFII(IV) but never owned it as a kid, and really got into FFIII(VI). By the time FFVII came out, I was starting a family, and FFIX marked the last time I put a lot of time into a FF game for years. Later, I'd play FFX and FFXII quite a bit, but the days of locking myself in my room and binging FF for hours essentially started and ended with III/VI.
i REGRET using a guide when i was playing FF6 for the first time.. despite the guide not giving out spoilers, i do get spoiled a bit when the guide said to gather tons of materials before the second part (WoR) of the game (since some materials are too hard to get in WoR), which made me alert & suspicious, expecting that somethings gonna happen to the second part of the game.. tho i still get so shocked seeing the scene of Kefka winning, getting what he wants, and the world is becoming a living hell, i still wonder til this day if i'll get even more shocked in horror seeing that scene if i don't get any hinted spoilers beforehand since, arguably, that's the most iconic scene of the game or perhaps top 5 from all FF games..
Had the same experience with 4. Never could "get" what everyone liked about it.... Until this year I played the Pixel Remaster and BLASTED through it in sheer joy. But yeah... 6 is my favorite EVER... I love this series so much.
This meme that FF6 has no main character, NEEDS TO STOP. Guys, it's freaking Terra, okay? Who's in Dissidia as the FF6 reps? TERRA & KEFKA. Let's get real.
@@socialkidmusic Only sort of. A lot of the story in the WOB revolves around Terra, but you lose her for a decent chunk of it when she flies away in Esper form, and her scenario after the river ride is the shortest and least impactful. Then in the WOR you don't even have to get her, and her story is she is playing mom for the orphans. I wouldn't call any of the characters the main character since many of them play such a large role. There are definitely side characters though. Mog, Umaro, GoGo, Strago, Relm, and Shadow for example. If pressed I'd say Terra is the main character of the first half of the game, and Celes is the main character for the second.
FF7 is great, absolutely. It's seemingly everybody's favorite installment. But FF6 has always been my #1 favorite game of the series. I played it next after 7 when i was a kid. Loved in instantly, and the soundtrack alone makes easy work of giving a bundle of pixels deep emotions
I had played some other rpg first, like Zelda, dragon warrior, etc.... but FFIII, as I bought it in the U.S., was my first rpg obsession where I just couldn't stop playing it. I am an Explorer and it was nice that there were rewards for going off the beaten path, or figuring out that puzzle to get the chainsaw..... Anyway my favorite game of ALL time.
I'm of the opinion that Final Fantasy VI Ran so that Final Fantasy VII could Fly. Putting the revolutionary 3D leap between the two games, they share several Story Points. Alterated Super Soldiers, Apocaliptic Second part of the story. And so forth. FF6 is very much ignored by the general public to the point I think it realy deserves a Faithful remake. Nice video by the way.
100% agree. I’ll always prefer 7 over 6, yes mostly because it’s what I grew up with but 7 really took a lot of great points and fleshed them out in a way not possible before. You’re right about FF6 not getting enough love though. I would absolutely love a fully fleshed out remake in any way. The story is really great and needs to be experienced by more people. Thanks for tuning in!
SO valid and on point! FFVI was the first I played, and it will always be my favorite. I LOVE VII, but I agree about VI having put in a lot of the work. I still think VI has a better story, even though VIIs is amazing, and immersive.
Interesting take. I think VI has an anti-fascist story arc and tries to bring home the importance of friendship and compassion. VII had a big corporation as a villain but I don't feel like it had a strong moral point (the Vegas-like casino gambling in the middle game didn't help with that). And honestly, I was always annoyed by Tifa and Aeris.
hahahaha I was waiting for someone to point that out!!!!!!!!! To be honest had I grown up with 6 instead of 7, it could be totally different! Thanks for tuning in!
I love how this game, which is my favorite by the way, switches the main character halfway through. The other thing I really like is that if you've never played it before, you are preparing to fight the emperor thinking that he is the main boss only to get there and have them backstabbed by kefka. this game is so good and I can never stop talking enough about it.
There are a lot of opinions on who the main character (is it a protagonist or antagonist? the game doesn't quite tell you for sure) is. I love this game too and I think a big part of that is because it captures the complexity of real people and it pulled off a very expansive and diverse world with pretty limited gaming memory. When Erek holds up the SNES cartridge, I remember how SMALL that thing was in 1994.
4 was famously know for ATB. With FF6, among other things, the complexity of the story at the time was unprecedented. And the good guys lost and the least expected guy became God. And in an apocalyptic wasteland, they found each other and KILLED GOD
Why do the characters look all skinny? Is that really how pixel remaster looks? The font is so tiny too... interesting to see it doesn't seem to bother folks. FF6 is my all-time favorite. Great review
SNES FF3 is the unsung hero of the franchise. FF7 is obviously the most iconic of the franchise and a lot of fans didnt start playing until after FF6. Even though some went back to play FF6 after the remastered version, they'll never have the full experience of what that games was like during its time. IYKYK, SNES FF3 is the best FF in the franchise and the imo ff10 is the closest thing to it.
4 and 6 are still far and away my favorite final fantasy games... I kind of hated 7, it wasn't bad, it had it's moments, but dropping down the 3 characters, the new modern world setting, spending so damned much time in Midgar, it was shocking and terrible after having played 4 and 6. It got better once you left Midgar 10 hours into the game. It finally started to feel like Final Fantasy, but the translation was not good, the story was ok at best. 7 just kind of sucked. It was released with new fancy graphics both on the PlayStation and on PC and got it's name out there. For so many it was their first exposure to the franchise, and it did have its charms, so people learned to like and even love it, and in numbers the previous games never saw. I thought I absolutely loved the FF7R trilogy, but then in Rebirth they made it perfectly clear there's a multiverse, and just... no. I went from thinking FF7R might be my new favorite game in the franchise to realizing that no, it's just mid, again. I absolutely love all the new added depth and the voice acting and the cinematic look and feel of the remake trilogy, but then they went and 7ed it up again and took things too far out into left field. I would give anything to see 6 get a good remake, with the added depth and expanded scenes and new cinematics and musical performances by a live symphony and have it all be voice acted and whatnot, but now I'm worried they'd do something dumb like add a multiverse to it as well and ruin the experience. FF6 is one of the earliest examples of art in the video game media, and it's still pretty widely recognized as the pinnacle of the series even while ceding to the popularity of 7.
Thanks for going back to VI because it's the real deal. PS players who started FF on 7 would have missed out a lot on VI. The richest, most majestic and emotional VI was way above 7... and well ahead of time. 7 is awesome but 6 is the epitome of the FF franchise.
I have had this one for a long time, never finished it got stuck at usin sabins blitz as a kid with the awefull translation. I really dont like the fact I cannot get into playing this one while I want to experience it so bad after what I heard. I think modern games done a number on me I just cant seem to enjoy the somewhat slow gameplaypace. I absolutely love the OST (I know it better than the game) along with many other things like the pixel art, but I just cant get into it. Hoping this video inspires me enough to maybe play throuhg it once.
It's 8 and 6 for me, and I started with 1 but never could finish it. NES would always freeze up on the final dungeon wiping the save data on the cartridge data.
It's a truly great game....that I don't really like playing at all anymore. It has so much going for it, story, world building, music, character design, and it just oozes pure inspiration (sorely lacking in so many modern games)----but mechanically it just wears me out.
I can see that. The auto battle feature in the pixel remaster really aided my play though most recently, grinding LOADS in the dinosaur forest. Was able to get a low 20s team up to 50 in about two hours. If it weren’t for that I’d have quit with kefkas tower bosses absolutely slaying my team 😂
The music is really good in 6, but is what it hurts it was Chrono Trigger that game does a bit better. Final Fantasy 6 was good game and it was a good end for the nintendo era of Final Fantasy. I liked the big cast of characters and having to split the party up to get to play with as many as you can. Plus look what followed after Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG.
Answering your question before I watch video " what's the heck is the deal with ff6" um..its the BEST STORY EVER TOLD. I might be a tiny bit biased because it was also the very first video game I got to play. Tho the Game is so amazing it's difficult to say.
You want to live the start of the series, buy an old NES and buy Final Fantasy cartridge and play it like it was in 1987, very different than pixel remaster.
......... Final Fantasy 4, 5, and 6 all had ATB gauges. and pausing the game stops actions from being inputted. seriously what game are you even playing? lol maybe you're talking about ATB wait? that stops the ATB while you're inside menus. But if you "pause the game at any time" you just get a dark screen. even in the Pixel Version you just get Control Info and Return to Title Screen options. seriously wtf lol
After just replaying this for the first time in many many years and......its not that good. Im sorry but it's all hype. The characters are dull, Kefka is joke and....it just didn't do anything for me. Especially after going through 1-5 right before it. Its very very average.
Yup your right he is beyond overrated the emperor in 2 already took over the world. Kuja you never defeat. Sephiroth breaks Cloud. With all the villains i felt a threat and personal stakes on the line i never got that with kefka and you beat him so many times to the point if he was ment to be the villains. I never like him for 30 years and no one was able to change my mind on him.
@charlesperalta8483 Kefka, after destroying the world, separated the party members, scattered across the world, shattered the Blackjack airship. Did I mentioned he poisoned Doma Castle? Oh, yes and Cyan's family was perished as well? In Thamasa he killed General Leo while General Leo is negotiating a peace treaty with the Espers while invading the town with Magitek Armoured soldiers and turning those Espers into Magicite ? In Floating Continent, have you witness how he betrays Emperor Gestahl using the power of the Warring Triad, pushing him down below from the Floating Continent? And did I forget to mention that Kefka had 1 year to rule the world before Celes finally awake, cared by Cid in the World Of Ruin? And also all the towns were at the mercy of Kefka's Light of Judgement? Overrated? Are you sure? Have you played FF VI SNES and the FF VI Pixel remastered? ua-cam.com/video/5AUUyKhrngM/v-deo.htmlsi=bjYTLultpRUpnFxF ua-cam.com/video/4Ynz68dsJcI/v-deo.htmlsi=v0xlgQGSVhBUN5IR
Kuja blew up a planet the emperor destroyed the planet. Kekfa wasn't a smart evil but kuja was and he adapted to be unlike kekfa. Kuja was a better evil where he said i love you so much should i kill you quick and painless to show my appreciation or slow and painful to show my love and he said it to his brother

I’ll still never understand how this channel isn’t a million sub channel, as always great content and well crafted video 💪🏽
The important thing is always to keep working! Numbers may never come but it’s always fun to create. Thanks for tuning in!
@@ErekLadd I feel you, I thought I’d be closer to 1k by the end of the year, still going to shoot for it though!
The best use for Go-Go was to equip the relic that lets Terra cast Ultima twice and then go go does it.
I played this one when I was a kid (I'm 37 now). I hope they would make a remake for FF6. This is the best candidate IMO
Saaaaaaame, just a year older. I wasn't surprised VII got a remake first, but I was a little sad.
i REGRET using a guide when i was playing FF6 for the first time.. despite the guide not giving out spoilers, i do get spoiled a bit when the guide said to gather tons of materials before the second part (WoR) of the game (since some materials are too hard to get in WoR), which made me alert & suspicious, expecting that somethings gonna happen to the second part of the game.. tho i still get so shocked seeing the scene of Kefka winning, getting what he wants, and the world is becoming a living hell, i still wonder til this day if i'll get even more shocked in horror seeing that scene if i don't get any hinted spoilers beforehand since, arguably, that's the most iconic scene of the game or perhaps top 5 from all FF games..
Had the same experience with 4. Never could "get" what everyone liked about it....
Until this year I played the Pixel Remaster and BLASTED through it in sheer joy.
But yeah... 6 is my favorite EVER... I love this series so much.
FFVI (as Final Fantasy 3) was my first RPG ever. My life has been significantly altered by having played it.
Saaaaaaaaaaaaaame! SO important to my development!
Me too. Amazing statement but it's true.
Four RPGs I always recommend: FFVI, Breath of Fire 2, Chrono Trigger, and Secret of Mana.
Try terranigma next you might like it.
Always wanted to get to that one! Great suggestion. I think I will play that next!
@@ErekLadd emulation is the only way I was able to play it. Don’t know about physical though
FFVI is honestly my favorite of the FF's.
This meme that FF6 has no main character, NEEDS TO STOP. Guys, it's freaking Terra, okay? Who's in Dissidia as the FF6 reps? TERRA & KEFKA. Let's get real.
The main character is clearly Edgar. He gets the ball rolling in the world of balance and world of ruin after Terra and Celes's tutorial phases.
@@GameNetwork You're joking, right?
@@GameNetwork All I'm gonna say, is who does Square choose to represent the hero of FF6 in Dissidia.
Enjoyed all of this till 15:50.....then dislike.... unsubscribe. 😂
Seriously, I'm glad you were able to enjoy it now and appreciate it.
hahahaha I was waiting for someone to point that out!!!!!!!!!
I played 7, never played 8 or 9. I loved 10! 12 had surprise difficultly spikes
After playing all of them, VI is my favorite. How Terra and Kefka portrayed on PSP Dissidia, only added a great deal to VI.
Ff6 or 3 as i knew it as a kid is my favorite/personal vote for best game ever made adjusted for inflation.
"What the heck is about FF6?"
Answer: FF6 is the best FF. :)
I love the story, music and characters in FFVI. But I also loved FFIV.
You can save Cid- fed him the faster swimming fish-( delicious fish)
I have had this one for a long time, never finished it got stuck at usin sabins blitz as a kid with the awefull translation. I really dont like the fact I cannot get into playing this one while I want to experience it so bad after what I heard. I think modern games done a number on me I just cant seem to enjoy the somewhat slow gameplaypace. I absolutely love the OST (I know it better than the game) along with many other things like the pixel art, but I just cant get into it.
Hoping this video inspires me enough to maybe play throuhg it once.
Ah thanks for making me feel old. I started with 1 on NES! They're all good. Honestly VIII might be my favorite...
It's 8 and 6 for me, and I started with 1 but never could finish it. NES would always freeze up on the final dungeon wiping the save data on the cartridge data.
You've learned nothing if you still thing FFVII is the goat...
There's an auto-battle feature in the remake!? :O Oh my gosh YES!
My absolute favorite FF's are 6, 10, and 4, in that order.
Answering your question before I watch video " what's the heck is the deal with ff6"
um..its the BEST STORY EVER TOLD.
I might be a tiny bit biased because it was also the very first video game I got to play. Tho the Game is so amazing it's difficult to say.
Ff6 should definitely be an anime. Its that good.
Up until Emet Selch in Shadowbringer Kefka was my #1 FF villain
You’re missing out, XIV is a love letter to FF fans and is fantastic
You want to live the start of the series, buy an old NES and buy Final Fantasy cartridge and play it like it was in 1987, very different than pixel remaster.
Turn Ragnarok into a sword.. learn ultimate from the cursed/paladin shield..
Playing anything but the SNES version is sacrilege.
Good, now I don't have to fight you.
I used to have this game on SNES. Then it disappeared one day. Pretty sure some 'friend' stole it.
Didn't like FFXII... but liked... FFXV and FFXVI?? No wonder you thought FFVI was bad, lol.
That damn forest.... hours of grinding......
......... Final Fantasy 4, 5, and 6 all had ATB gauges.
and pausing the game stops actions from being inputted.
seriously what game are you even playing? lol
maybe you're talking about ATB wait?
that stops the ATB while you're inside menus.
But if you "pause the game at any time" you just get a dark screen. even in the Pixel Version you just get Control Info and Return to Title Screen options.
seriously wtf lol
1:33 ...Terra Brainford?🤣
SNES 4 and 6 are light years above the rest. 7 is excellent though flawed.
My favorite game off ALL time. I would say chrono trigger is the best game of all time.
FF6 is the best, i love it ❤
Just wait until the realization hits that FF7 is just a retelling of FF6...
I do remember feeling like ff7 wasn't all that original, at least in terms of plot
You knew you were wrong this whole time…..but you just didn’t want to admit it
After just replaying this for the first time in many many years and......its not that good. Im sorry but it's all hype. The characters are dull, Kefka is joke and....it just didn't do anything for me. Especially after going through 1-5 right before it. Its very very average.
Ff6 is overrated kefka is overrated he is a weak villain and a coward
FF 7 is overrated
Thumbs nail shows ff3
15 is horrible and 16 is Devil May Cry. It's not a FF game. Play Type-0 instead of 15
That was such an ass way to end the video
Poor baby. I’m sure you’ll be ok ❤️
@@ErekLadd and same to you sir. But don’t quit your day job
Kekfa is the most overrated villain i hate him and i find him annoying Kuja was better
Nope, Kefka is not overrated.
He achieved what other villains do not.
@charlesperalta8483
Kefka, after destroying the world, separated the party members, scattered across the world, shattered the Blackjack airship.

Kuja blew up a planet the emperor destroyed the planet. Kekfa wasn't a smart evil but kuja was and he adapted to be unlike kekfa. Kuja was a better evil where he said i love you so much should i kill you quick and painless to show my appreciation or slow and painful to show my love and he said it to his brother
