I changed my radiator sensor 2 weeks ago and didn’t fix my problem and changed my thermostat today and didn’t fix my issue and the a/c off due to high engine temp still pops up on my dash and as soon as i start my car the fan kicks on and doesn’t turn off until my car is completely turned off , only part I haven’t replaced is the water outlet , it’s a headache. Any idea what could it be ?

By 241kmiles I replaced almost everything but the engine and transmission. Highly recommend replace your coolant hoses for silicone performance hoses if you plan to keep the car long term. Do replace the negative battery cable every 100k miles if possible if you haven't done it your car will start to act up such as airbag lights, stabilizer warning, traction control going off at random times and the big one car dies at random times but starts up if you leave it off for a hr or so it's all connected to the negative battery cable.

Just want to say that I was just dealing with this problem and the issue was a failing alternator. I replaced that and everything is working as it should! This was after I bought a thermostat and radiator sensor. So save yourself some money and get the alternator checked first.

Now this makes sense. I will have to give this a try. I love how no one is commenting how they fixed it. I assume every has put a quick battery disconnect and just reset the ECU and code and drive until it comes back which is some random time. I've replaced all the temp sensors, replaced the thermostat, made sure the coolant is at the proper level, bled out the system and STILL this POS car gives the same issue. Now I am reading the that ultimate fix is to change the connector and HACK at the "ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED" thermostat. Why kind of non-sense is this. This car and model is the biggest POS design on the coolant system I have ever seen. Now if the issue is a low voltage issue it all makes sense with how sensitive cars are with low voltage. Make sense as to why when I disconnect the battery and reset the ECU, things all work magically for a short period of time.

I turned my car on after 4 days of it being parked and the first thing I saw was the “ac off due to high engine temp” warning so I immediately began researching, changing parts out, sensors and whatnot, nothing worked until this video made me want to take a look. I changed the water outlet a few days ago and figured since it was a new part nothing could be wrong with it… WRONG, the sensor itself was damaged and thankfully the message hasn’t popped since 🙏🏽

But my wife was driving it the other day and said the Ac off overheating warning came on but then the temp needle dropped to 0.. it's not low on coolant, it's not running rough. No smoke, heavier use of fuel.

Awesome video. My ex wife just got a 2014 Chevy Cruz from a buy here pay here and it had this issue when she test drive it, so they sent it off to a garage to get fixed and came back and was fine. Well it’s about a month later and boom same issue. So I call the place she bought it from and asked well what did they do to fix it a month ago, dude says well they just added coolant to it, which after watching your video I no that’s a lie. Well anyway I watched your video and first thing I did was unhooked the battery and after that I had to hook it back up to move the car to another spot to work on it and I dunno why but by unhooking the battery and I guess everything resetting the issue went away.. super lucky, why do you think it fixed itself I guess and in your opinion do you think it’s probaly just a dirty sensor like you talk about in your video? I’m sure the problem isn’t gone it will come back but for now ice cold air, temp gauge back to correct position and warning light is gone. I thought about charging her new husband for a new sensor and thermostat that the auto parts store sold him but couldn’t bring myself to do that.. 😂 just joking for sure!!! I was just glad I could help them out and when it happens again I will no we’re to start at looking for the problem. Still puzzled on why unhooking the battery would fix the issue, and was wondering why no check engine light ever came on. Would love to hear your thoughts. I for sure am not a mechanic but love using UA-cam to learn stuff like this

    • @DIYwithMichaelBorders
      @DIYwithMichaelBorders  7 місяців тому +1

Thanks for watching and sharing your experience. Honestly, being that modern cars these days are extremely monitored by sensors throughout the engine compartment, it can be that a battery disconnect did indeed reset your electrical system and returned it to proper configuration.
However if it continues to come back at sporadic times, it’s likely that there is a specific sensor experiencing earlier stages of failure and…well…acting sporadically.
That’s awesome you helped them out, and keep in mind…if there’s an excessive amount of dielectric grease inside electrical connection point, that can work to your disadvantage and foul out the flow of electrical.
It’s similar to adding too much oil to your engine…it gets to a point that having too much will lead to a bad outcome.

Thanks for watching, how new is Thermostat? What brand Thermostat? Reason we ask is because many Cruze owners have experienced the annoyance of installing a brand new thermostat…only to find out that it was faulty to begin with.
If thermostat is brand new, it’s likely that it is faulty and not opening and allowing coolant to flow and properly cool your engine…thus, we recommend returning it for a brand new one that will hopefully not be faulty. Again, we have talked to many viewers that have shared that this has happened to them.

Dash states loss of engine power and the bell keeps dinging that something is wrong. I am thinking it is something with the computer that the chip is not registering that the car is running okay. I see other Cruze's running fine, but the one I bought with 87,000 miles has cost me $4,000 in various repairs. The computer system has to be messed up for it had a short in a battery cable, and other issues that drove the mechanics crazy. Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. We have experienced this in the past and recommend taking the vehicle for a test drive.
Driving it will actually allow engine to reach normal operating temperatures far better than sitting idle.
If your temperature gauge begins to register and exceeds the halfway point, carefully check to see if the hose feeding out of the thermostat is warm or cold.
If it’s cold, the thermostat has failed & it will need to be replaced. Please keep us posted on your project.

Thanks for the reply. We’ve had a few viewers mention that they installed the wrong sensor into the radiator which gave false indications to the onboard computer causing these types of symptoms. The place they purchased sensor from unfortunately sold the the sensors that’s designed for the Water Outlet housing.
Although the two sensors look the exact same, they are very different. Double check your part # with the store you purchased it from to ensure that you bought the correct sensor.

Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. We definitely understand your concern on that.
We spoke to a viewer a few months back that mentioned they were experiencing the same issue. They ended up having the dealership reset the onboard computer.
However, let’s try a reset procedure on your end before going that route. We recommend removing the black negative cable from your battery and leaving disconnected for a minimum of 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, resecure the black negative cable to your battery which will complete the reset procedure.

I think I have this issue again. It appears that the coolant sensor is designed to catch any leaking fluids, based on the way it is angled. I used a bad oil cap and had some oil make its way down there. I haven't tried to clean it yet, but also an unrelated P0171 (engine running lean) happened at the same time. I think this might also be the oil cap. I have seen others mention that the oil cap is poorly designed, which is further reinforced by the fact that AC Delco's replacement is completely different than the original. I always have oil buildup on the upper lip of the engine and think it is just dripping down that cord, into the connection. I changed the oil cap back to the faulty one, while I wait for the AC Delco replacement and hope that the issue doesn't persist after running through this suggestion. At least it isn't the coolant again! Cruzes are garbage. DO NOT BUY!

Or you can take that part # that they give you and purchase it somewhere of your liking. Hope all is well.

I've replaced both sensors and after about 20 minutes of driving the ac off light comes back on and the thermostat goes to cold. Could it be electrical?

Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. Unfortunately you may have a failed Thermostat. Below is a link to our video showing replacement of Thermostat.

Hi, my issue was coolant temp sensor takes time to move in the dashboard. I put new temp coolant sensor and new thermostat. Coolant gauge temp in the dashboard still moves too slow. Fuel consumption is heavy! Anybody who has tips on the cause? I have no check engine light and no coolant leaks.

Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. Sounds like your coolant system is working properly as it’s not allowing the engine temperatures to move in a fast pace.
Your temperature needle on the dash should stabilize at an ever-so slightly lower than halfway point.

Thanks for the reply. There’re a few sensors that may cause this.
      1. Water Outlet Sensor
      2. Radiator Sensor
      3. Thermostat

Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. Has your Thermostat been replaced?
There is a sensor inside the thermostat that can fault out and lead to this annunciation on your instrument cluster... even though your thermostat can be working perfectly fine and doing what it is designed to do.
