Just a few less amp on the welder or what I do with light box iron,I would stop start weld. Might see you at the ploughing 👍
10:39 I know you're probably too busy,but I'd be more than happy to give you an hour or two of a crash course in stick welding.....even with gaps and the like. Anything can be welded and made to look decent once you know how.

Dont worry about the weld Phil...there is no one going to code it & its not going to damage anyone if it wears out. Keep 'er lit. BTW the weather will be like Summer for the next three weeks whilst we are on the Med.
Hi Phil, always enjoy harvesting keep working on your welding and it will get better.
That 6499 could do with a tidy up it looks very tired falling apart
Think of the electrode angle like pouring a kettle,more angle ,more metal and if you are not moving your hand in while the electrode is burning the arc will get bigger and more power..you want a tight arc and only let it flair if you're burning into something.. timing and practice and a good earth...want to see pig spit action if you can...for the love of god let someone else build the spit 😂 👍🏻
you have got the art of welding okay now that's not bad that box isn't easy to weld if it's 2.5 mm wall you would want to move left and right as you travel mainly staying on the solid box as traveling along a cut in that thickness would burn holes. But they can be filled 30 to 50 amps with a 2.5mm rod an circle around the hole rest it circle again rest it an repeat till filled in. A dull red you can go again but any brighter an you'll start over. But keep a few off cuts an play with them an you'll get the hang off that okay 10mm plate you would have no bother getting it to stay together now. A cheap automatic shield to see pre strike up is also a fantastic job 50 or 60 pound gets a good one that lasts you don't need to spend hundreds on one.

Good stuff Phil watching this from Western Australia on Monday Sept 16 Hope you’re tractor run went brilliantly I said to a bloke yesterday who was going on about another tractor run bit north east of you, anyway I told him if I were in dear old Ireland I would have headed for Longford and Ian’s Tractor run I’m a collapsed catholic,but would like to think of his spirit looking on and him and his mates having a running commentary in that great spirit world
Re your welding In Oz the welders call it cocky shit as in Bird etc good clean steel , but I will say from Experience when U go MiG you will not go , back Of course you would keep a stick caddy ,not sure what you call then ,it’s a stick welder that weighs app 12 kg and will burn a 3.2 mm rod all day long brilliant tool , as the lad said you would bring it to bed with ya” but really a good MiG is the way to go , but would need a bit more care than a stick welder
Re unloading on the go when I run a Combine last one was a reasonable machine A super Bizon we nearly always stayed moving while unloading but each to their own if you’re in level ground but I guess when you stop to unload it gives the pilot a minute to check his wings Great to see that you are getting through your harvest without too many hassles
Quick story Back in the day When farmers wife’s fed.Teams of men , this character contracted around the Ballyragget area with I think a Dania pull bagger any between showers and break downs and this woman getting fed up cooking, and her poor hen picked hubby telling her that they would be finished yesterday On like the last day at a big table of spuds and the best of Bacon, she enquired to the harvester man lt they were likely to be finished today His answer as follows
Well Ma’am We we’re heading for a finish with 2 acres left in the big field and as “we were going up.the hill she shit tin and don’t know when we’ll be finished “ I believe she might have dropped a hot spud on his hand

When ur welding box iron again Phil don’t point the rod into the metal lay ur rod perfectly flat and the weld will fall onto the joint its painful shit to weld 😂
Good to see the combine working put a sign on that feeder steel toe caps must be worn in case the side rail falls off😂

Try a Tig or Mig welder instead of that old school Rod welding
steel was paper thin and rusty so that stuff will vaporise the second you touch it
You should sign up for weiding classes you get good tips it help alot
When will you start operating the self propelled and combine? Father Phil might want to hang up the boots some day! Maybe you can unload the grain bin while you keep harvesting then 😂

Im sure when beef prices are in their arse the contracting is a source of income,beef farming fairly quiet in summer anyway,dont know how any contractor deals with the stress but power to the stewarts for keeping it going
It's not really... when you look at it that there's 2 house holds taking wages from it. Break that down per person. Father Phil and mother Phil, farmer Phil and Liv... his brother and sister probably getting money from it too. Break that down, its like 100 calves each. They are slaughtered in there second year.... that means the true figure is 5 or 6 people earning money off 300.
Once you lose a contracting job to another person's... generally farmers are loyal and they will stick with the new person. Business is appreciated. With the general size of their contracting operation. They are prob making as much money from contracting. And he makes a lot of bales... with only see a few minutes of his 3 or 4 days.
They are earning a living. Fair due to them.
