Harbor Freight Budget Jeep Wrangler Recovery Gear Haul
Is Harbor Freight's Jeep Wrangler recovery gear any good? Harbor Freight is known for its discounted Jeep Wrangler recovery gear. We went out the day after Black Friday to see what deals they had and whether it was worth purchasing.

I’ve had hit and miss results with HF stuff, so it’ll be interesting to see how these items hold up for you. Make sure to keep us updated!
Same here. Interested to see how it holds up.
I’ll definitely keep you guys updated!
Thanks Matt.... Another very good video showing good available options at Harbor Freight. Sometimes they get a bad rap because they are cheaper.... I have found their products to be well made and durable. keep em coming!!!!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks Matt. Just did the same with Black Friday, Smittybilt bumpers and steps. Was looking at Harbor Freight for thise items. Would love to see a video on how well they work but also properly using them in various situations.
I’ll use them soon!
I haven’t bought a lot at Harbor Freight but what I have bought has been problem free. My wife and I are enjoying your channel and we look forward to your new videos, keep up the good work.
Thanks so much!
Keep it up Matt , and the rest of the gang !! Love all the content on jeep news and accessories !!! keep going
Appreciate that!
My wife and I both have jeeps and both are equipped with Harbor Freight off road gear and we haven’t had any problems out of anything we have installed on our jeeps. Great stuff for the price for sure !!
Great to hear!
Love it guys! Keep up the good work, it’s fun watching up your channel grow! Harbor Freight should sponsor you!
Thanks Dawn!
Didn't even know they had that stuff, thanks for this.
😎😎
Another good one! I love Harbor Freight and I always buy way more than I set out to. The funny inserts during your episode are a keeper. I hope you can grow the channel into a podcast. It can be a very good thing.
Thanks so much!
Matt in a Harbor Freight ? Heck yeah I had to watch. I would love to go to a Harbor Freight with Matt ! I am going tomorrow, appreciate it , best regards Sam, ( LOL--> F150, 2009)
Thanks Sam!
Once again another great video. I have installed Apex winch on the jeep and not had any troubles yet. But once again, I have only had my jeep for a month.
Awesome!!!
Been using badlands winches for a dozen years at least. Had an older style 12k that I used at least 100 times on my farm that thing just wouldn’t give up. Sold it when I got a bumper for my new truck and am running an Apex now. It’s got a dozen or maybe little more uses on it and I really like it so far. I will definitely put an Apex on the Rubicon when I put the winch bumper on. Yeah your channel is doing well because of your experience and personality IMHO.
We've had the opposite results. 2 Badlands 12k winches we put on trailers and both failed. I run a SB XRC gen 3 on one jeep and a Warn Evo 10 on the other and have never had an issue with either. The Badlands winches both crapped the bed within a handful of uses.
I appreciate that! Thanks for the honest feedback too!
@@titanoffroad that’s a bummer. My dad has a badlands in one of the hitch cradles he uses purely for logging and property maintenance and it works flawlessly also. I have no doubt that HF and Badlands Quality control could be lacking. I have a few HF tools that I definitely would not recommend
@@titanoffroad that’s a bummer my Evo 10 failed me on the trail. While it was out for warranty I put a HF apex 12k in. It’s been solid for over a year and about a dozen pulls. Not a huge fan of the China Warn stuff.
Looking at getting a Jeep Gladiator in January of 2023, so I will be super interested in seeing if HF works as well. I know nothing about winches so you might assume your audience are needing to be show how these items work together instead of just what you bought. I just gave you a positive.
Good call!
Hi Matt. Good morning from Poland. 👋. Another great video. 👍
Thanks so much for watching so far away!
Awesome video you should check out Matt’s off road recovery ropes he also has soft shackles and they are yellow!
That would match!
Great video. As your newest (as of this comment) subscriber, can I make a suggestion? Link all the items you talked about in the description. If its there, I missed it. Was looking for a link to the tool bag but would have impulse clicked on several. Money for you if they're affiliate links. Builds community either way. Just my 2 cents brother but great content!
Sounds good, i will see if I can find the links for you!
@@DIRTROADCRED no worries. I found the tool bag. I've also watched most of your playlist today now that I found the channel. JLUR ✌️
Happy 10k subscribers 🎉
Thank you very much!!!
I spent a bit this year as well. Getting the jeep ready for some big cross country wheeling.
Right on!
My apex 12k looks and works great on my gladiator. The only thing I had to get on my own was longer cap head bolts for the fairlead. Steel bumper plus winch plate plus filler plate was just thicker that what’s in the box, but there’s basically everything else. Comes with control box rackets and wires. That’d be an add on for just about any other brand
Great to hear the feedback!
I have the apex 12000lb winch and soft shackles. Use and abuse them. No problem after 2 1/2 years.
Glad to hear!
I run the winch and have used it a ton of times, awesome stuff. I guess I need to do a run to back to Harbor Freight!
Good to hear!
Very cool. I've been curious about the HB winch and stuff 👍
👍👍👍
I use the hf stuff a lot. I have used everything you have plus the recovery straps for over a year and it’s all holding up really well. The only thing leaving me to be desired was the hitch d ring. But it still works well.
Awesome feedback!
Great video…. Can’t wait to see the bumpers etc.
Coming soon!
What?… No 10 mm sockets? 😂. You have to get one at every Harbor Freight trip. It’s a rule.
Congrats on 10k Matt and team!
Lol I have to keep a close eye on the 10mm!
Great channel. Question, what phone holder do you have and where did you get it?
Bulletpoint Mounting Solutions!
Here’s the video of the install

I shop at HF when I need certain items, some things I would not buy but overall nice place to go.
Absolutely!
Just discovered your channel and btw your local to me which is too cool lmao
That’s awesome!
@@DIRTROADCRED I seen the harbor freight and thought why that look familiar then I seen the parts store, I knew it!! Lmao
Matt, did you think of having a Moab meet with you and some of the subscribers this summer?
That would be awesome!
Daaang, I am the 300 like 🎉. I do like HF, some tools are disposable but for the most part the rest are very, very good like for example their 3ton long reach Daytona floor jack 👍 mine is in your Jeep color. Great video!!!
Awesome call on the jack I have one too!
August/September ish Dirt Road Cred meet up in Ouray for a ride around the alpine loop 🤔 Maybe a Moab run after that
That would be sick!
Badland makes nice, strong, dependable and esthetically pleasing off-road gear, IMO. Buy it all on sale. :)
😎😎😎😎
As a new Jeep owner (2021 Jeep 2 Door Willy), I’m interested in seeing bumper replacements and winches.
I don’t go off road a lot but can see the value of a winch in emergencies. Unfortunately from what I’ve heard, have to change the bumper from stock to a different one to be able to install a winch.
That's assuming you didn't get the steel bumper package and with that being said thier are plenty of sub 500 dollar bumpers that look good and will do the job.
More than likely you would have to swap!
I'd consider a Hi-Lift jack first. Much cheaper options and with some guidance, is nearly as useful as a winch.
@@KENFEDOR22 except it’s not a winch which is a pulling device…
@@PynkPwnye Hi-Lift Jack can also be used as a come along, but people need to learn how to uses these jacks properly as they can be very dangerous. Using a Hi-Lift as a come along with the proper training is just as good as a winch especially if you combine them with tackle blocks. Plus you don’t need electricity.
Love all the badlands stuff!
Awesome!
I got the badlands apex 12,000 winch but all my recovery stuff I went with rhino USA. I’m new but they had great reviews and price compared to everyone else
Thanks for the comment!
You can get the soft shackles cheaper on Amazon and eBay.
Interesting
Quests in need to make a trip to a Harbor freight near me.
😎😎😎
Your explanation of the snatch block is not how that works. What it allows you to do is change the direction of your pull. Now if you mount the snatch block to whatever you’re pulling then run the line to it and back to your truck, then it’ll work as a pulley and double your strength.
👍
Harbor freight has some good stuff.. thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
thank-you for good info
Thanks for watching!
Can you show the stuff installed, hard to visualize if not familiar ?
Coming soon!
Notice that they have a spot for winch rope but never seem to have any
Always sold out!
Wish they made a 10K synthetic rope winch.
That would be nice!
Subscribed!
Glad to have you here!
Dude, exactly. Harbor Freight is a cheap jewelry store for Jeeps. Like Claire's for offroaders. Don't sugarcoat it.
Claire’s for off-roaders I love it 😂
I wish we have harbor freight here in Canada....
None in Canada??
@@DIRTROADCRED nop we have Princess Auto or Canadian Tire which are similar but no harbor freight.
I have a repair shop and I know for a fact Harbor Freight tools are junk! With that being said I spent more money for my Jeep and I did my first house I'm not putting Harbor Freight garbage on it!
It definitely depends how hard you use them
Great video! But there’s the but. Harbor freight items are all cheap knockoffs. They are not made in the USA. They only purchase items, ship to china , and have them reproduced at a lower price. Look at the items and you will see that they are almost identical to the USA made ones. The thing that comes to my mind first is are they safe, will they reach that pulling power without breaking, causing injury to you or damage to your Jeep? Buy yourself good equipment and good tools (ex. Snap-on, Matco, etc). You’ve already spent a lot for a Jeep. Why stop now? Support the all American workers. That’s who you are depending on to support your channel? Just my opinion. Will continue to watch.
I appreciate the comment, I try to buy US made as much as possible,
Well said, we all like to save money but I won't buy something if I'm convinced it's a knockoff, especially from China. That only takes away from those local manufacturers whom we all otherwise support (i.e. Matt's recovery ropes).
👍
😎
Clickbait. I must have missed the winch comparison video. Mentioning them isn’t the same.
Does the title say winch comparison?
I love my Jeep but I'm pretty sure the stuff from Harbor Freight would be more reliable than my Jeep. Just Empty Every Pocket.
Lol harbor freight makes some decent parts!
@@DIRTROADCRED they honestly do, I have bought a lot of tools and even an electric winch that still works great.
Hard to trust anything from HF…especially with your life.
We’ll have to see!
I have both 12000 lbs winches from HF the old one, I have been using for the past 31/2 yrs with no problem. The Apex I put on newer jeep and had no problems what so ever with either one
