You need to see the movie or the video of United flight 93.

I knew one of the stewardesses on flight 93.

Thanks for another great suggestion, Amanda. As an FYI, I flew Cobra and Apache helicopters for 17 of my 20 years in the Army and held a civilian helicopter instructor rating. They stated a Vortex Ring State (also known as Settling With Power) created by higher than expected temperatures. While environmental factors may have contributed to this emergency situation, for most helicopters it is always the result of three combined factors, a rate of descent of more than 300 FPM, an airspeed of less than 30 Knots and somewhere between 75% and 100% power applied. That's when the helicopter is descending in its own downwash. And the more power that is applied, the faster the rate of descent. It is often the result of pilot error when they make a steep, fast approach with heavy loads and possibly a tailwind. But if the wind shifted giving them an unexpected tailwind during the approach, it could have contributed to it. We used to practice intentionally entering Settling With Power at a safe altitude and then taking corrective action to get out of it.
Like BP2 mentioned, I'm a bit confused about the conflicting stories of how bin Laden was taken down. I would suspect every team member had a camera on them linked by satellite to assets in the rear. But maybe none of them clearly showed the details. Great reaction guys.

The conflicting stories from the Team members left it all a little confusing.
As a Helicopter Pilot and probably one who flew support air, during troop deployment, what was your take on "Fast Roping"?
I can understand when you need to drop onto roof tops or built up areas, but as we have seen many times the Big Helo's are very vulnerable to small arms, plus it always seems to be a very slow way to deploy heavily armed troops.
Cheers Hawk, for the great info, If ever I need to take over from the pilot, I will keep that all in mind 😂

@@BritPopsReact You are spot on. In most cases, landing the UH-60 and letting the troops exit as soon as the wheels touch the ground is considerably faster than coming down a rope. And it exposes the helicopter to more possibilities of enemy fire. It can also create considerable downwash if close enough to the ground which reduces visibility and creates the potential of injuring friendly troops with flying debris. But if the insertion site is not suitable for landing because of size, obstacles like poles or wires, or if the there is no way to determine if there are obstacles, they may have no choice but o use fast roping. .

@@Hawk-ODA212I feel like if the video didn’t show things completely clearly each of the seals who have come forward with their own books and stories about it seem to want to be the “hero” of the story instead of just considering it a team mission. It’s unfortunate if that’s the reason for the conflicting stories

There was a civilian in the nearby neighborhood who started posting online about the weird things happening up the road. Consider watching 'Zero Dark Thirty'. I always appreciated that a number of female CIA agents spent years trying to locate him.

One reason the noise might not have bothered him was that his compound was right next to a major Pakistani military base, another reason people in the know did not believe the Pakistanis did not know he was there and had been protecting him.

So they would have been used to hearing air traffic passing by.
Thanks for the great piece of info

I actually never liked history much until a few years ago but now I’m loving learning about historical events through videos like this because it breaks things down into more easily digested pieces. Watching reaction videos is actually what has made me want to learn more about history

This is a pretty good way of describing the events that occurred.
Do you mean the TV series Air Wolf, BP2?
    😊
It's called political and international splitting hairs. Intelligence operations I guess have different rules of engagement.
There is an interesting video of footage of a Major League Baseball game where the fans heard that Bin Laden was killed.
The players for the longest time did not know and were confused as to what was going on.
It was a rare instance where it was the only major sporting event that night.
