Another great review here Matt. I think these types of wearables are great for someone with no other way to track this data. But as I watched your demos, I couldn't help thinking how similar this data is to the data I get wearing my Garmin 945 as a fitness / health tracker. Compared to the Oura ring though, the absence of a subscription plan makes this a clear winner in a head-to-head between those two.
These are interesting products. I've heard from a lot of people who tell me they don't like to wear watches to sleep but instead want a ring to track their sleeping. Seems rare but to each their own. 🤷♂️
Maybe to add to this. If you are using let’s say Garmin for tracking your activities, sleep and so on, is there a benefit of adding the ring? Not sure though. Also, does it sync with training platforms like TrainingPeaks?
@@dmart20 - Training Peaks is one of the supported platforms. There's a lot of overlay between what Garmin tracks and what this ring tracks. For me, It felt like Garmin did a good job tracking activities and this ring gave a better details and suggestions on sleep and movement.
@@mlegrand thanks for the reply. I believe I wills stick with Garmin for all tracking for now. I feel it tracks sleep ok, certainly not perfect but fine for my needs. Good to hear however that TrainingPeaks is supported, which would be a must for me.
Yo Brandon! Good to hear from you! I've been watching your career with so much interest and joy over the past few years. The Air *might be a decent option for you. It'll do a good job at all the general health stuff like sleep, steps per day and giving recommendations but it's not going to replace a Garmin and track your runs or anything like that. I want to test a few more options on this channel. These are cool little products but I have no desire to pay a subscription fee. Hope all is well buddy! 👍
Nice review of the Ultrahuman Ring Air. I totally did not think about their return policy 🤔 I am going on Day 24 wearing my size 11 Ring Air and I truly like the healthy feedback & reports.
Hello, I have a question about the Ultrahuman Ring AIR. I'm using a Garmin sports watch and while doing exercises I pair an external heart rate sensor on the watch because the heart rate data from the external heart rate sensor is more reliable. Is it possible to pair the heart rate sensor of the Ultrahuman Ring AIR to a Garmin watch so I can use it as an external heart rate sensor?
No not that I’m aware of. I also wouldn’t expire accurate HR data from this device while exercising. HR data is fairly easy and reliable for optical sensors when resting and at sleep but gets harder with more movement. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Ring price plus 94 Euros extra taxes for e.g. Germany, that's 425 Euros in the end for the ring with a 2 years battery life (according to the ultrahuman tech-service).
Good suggestion! I honestly think it comes down to about three things. The looks of the watches, the mappings which is much better on the 965 and the screens. Some people prefer the simplicity of the Instinct 2X and others like the brightness of the 965 which comes at the expense of battery life. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Yeah, that's a really good point. 4+ weeks is a lot. I'm guessing a lot of people are really eager to try something other than an Oura ring or something other than a subscription service. Maybe demand is higher than expected. 🤷♂️ Keep me posted on what you think and how you like it when you finally get it in hand.
@@JasonRaneses This is good to know, thank you!! I'm a bit skeptical about it. 4+ weeks is a lot of time for someone who's skeptical to change their mind, you're definitely right.
@@wrightclick I knew it would be a wait yet the impatience kicked in. With my training Whoop is a better fit for the next year and I’ve gone that route for now. Will likely retry Ultrahuman again down the road.
This AIR ring is using it's own internal gyroscope and accelerometer data to determine movement for the day. You'd still want to use your Garmin for a more accurate representation of what you did during the workout. Syncing all of this data from different manufactures in one location is a bit of an issue.
@@alessandrobasilico5847 - there wouldn't be an update to the movement index on the Ultrahuman app without the ring on for your workout. That's my understanding.

@@sharppe60 thanks for the reply and glad to hear you are liking it. Wanna create a Ultrahuman zone and see who can get a better score each day haha? I just got mine
Yes it does. I wouldn't expect any of these rings to count steps super accurately. One of my friend said this ring missed a ton of steps one day. But overall, I've enjoyed this product. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Agreed, subscription is a deal breaker. Looking for an activity device to replace my Fitbits. Google has already watered down some models. "Writing is on the wall" Already ordered the fitting kit for Ultrahuman Air.
@@mlegrand I keep forgetting I'm wearing it. I like the sleep tracking. Still on a learning curve on activities. No longer wearing my apple 8 on my wrist. Any idea if this exports its HRV data to Apple Health? Could be a good solution to sleep tracking and send the data into Athlytic. Still waiting on Garmin to make a ring in their ecosystem
Well it’s summer here but I can’t say for sure but I think it’ll do ok. I didn’t really focus on accuracy in this video but I’m not a big believer in these rings being accurate when moving during an activity. I think they’re better at getting an overall picture of health metrics. And accuracy is easier when sleeping.
You mention the scratches on the matte version 😞 Ultrahuman now offers a skinny/glossy version. If you where to choose (knowing you have not tried the skinny/glossy version), which would you prefer (having possible scratches and "look" in mind)
Hard to say without trying them both. 🤔 I’d probably keep this matte black version. The scratches aren’t too noticeable. I can always use lenses and lights to make it more obvious on camera. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@mlegrand I ordered (and received) the ring size kit, and apart from struggling a bit finding the right size (I am in between two sized) I am a bit challenged having the ring on all day, as I feel the "edges" are sharp and not soft and smooth. I actually had to take it off during the nights, because it felt uncomfortable. The question: Is the actual ring similar to the ring sizing kit in terms of feel of the rings "edges". Hoping they feel a bit more smooth. Thanks in advance 🙏🏻
@@klausdetlef - In my review I mention something similar. I found the actual ring a bit smoother than the sizing kit but overall the actual ring wasn't as smooth as the Oura ring.
The best way to test heart rate accuracy is to export out the data and compare it directly to an EVG style chest strap. There isn’t an easy way to export out data and therefore I didn’t talk about it within this video. If you’re really curious about HR accuracy, I’d say this wouldn’t be my first choice of products.
