Good to hear! I was all set to buy an Oura, but couldn't get past 18% one-star reviews on Amazon for Gen. 4. Not to mention the bad customer service and subscription cost. I'm just getting tired of everything being subscription now. Ordered the UH today for $279.
Really like the fact this one is subscription free. The devices are a lot of money, but the technology is small and I can see a lot of advantages with it as it is so discreet. Not sure it is for me as my watch gathers the same data, but I am curious to find out more.
Coming from Garmin, I’ve now been using the Oura 3 alongside a Whoop 4 and AWU for around six months and I’m impressed with the Oura metrics. Sleep and readiness scores feel more balanced than Whoop and the app is well designed. Being able to view Oura data on my AW is big plus. The only pro I see for the UH right now is that it has no sub model and the different form factor for those who care.
While there could be some level of inaccuracy, the Average Nightly SpO2 score you got (92%) is likely more accurate than you think. First of all, SpO2 naturally drops at night. Also, despite amazing fitness level, it's conceivable that you have some level of sleep-apnea or a sleep-disorder of which you are unaware.
I really want something like this from Garmin. I don't sleep with my Fenix as it's too big and uncomfortable so I miss out on many features. So I would love to see a ring which supports training readiness and other stats.
@@mikewilson0 The 255 is probably a lot lighter. I wear my Fenix 7s quite a bit a night but sometimes it just drives me crazy and need to keep it off for a while when sleeping.
@@Techie.Athlete R1 AIR is the latest version which is super light in weight and one almost forgets that they are wearing a ring. I love the smart ring concept as I am a watch guy, having something that tracks you (LOL ) while wearing a more real watch is a cool idea. awesome Review !!
What do you think of the sizing compared to the sizers? I'm pretty torn between 8 and 9. 9 spins on my finger if I spin it intentionally and can slide off easily, but it does stay in place when on. The 8 stays put perfectly, but getting it around my knuckle can be difficult (I had to use soap to get the sizer off), to the point that I worry if I were to swell up it would be trapped on. I really wish they allowed one size exchange. 😡
I was going to go with the size 12, their largest size, but I went with the size 11 and it does not slide too much on my left index finger. And the Ring Air doesn't slide up to my first knuckle either. And yes, it would be cool if both Utrahuman & ÕURA Ring allowed for a size exchange within the first 45 days. How long did you wear the sizing kit demo ring before you decided on a size to order, eh?@@wrightclick

Based on your information, I wanted to let you know that I have decided to purchase the Ultrahuman Ring Air for myself and my wife. While there is a risk of Ultrahuman facing increasing competition and potentially not surviving long-term, they have a good chance of success if they continue to develop their software and hardware. Additionally, being in a large market like India gives them an advantage.
Great review, thanks for bringing this product to my attention. I just purchased one of these and I'm thankful for your great review of it. Excited to test it out! Cheers.
I bought a finger SpO2 sensor because my Whoop scared me with the low value everyday. Same results you were getting with the ring. Realistically, I think if my blood oxygen was really that low, it would have a direct reflection on my HRV. Then I got to thinking, how could my levels be that low and still be an efficient runner? I think it just goes to show that the technology still may have a way to go.
Thank you so much! eventually I would like to get rid off my Garmin watch and wear a ring, I'm not sure if this ring can record and analyse sport modes... if so, its a win for me 😊
Unfortunately it doesn’t record sports or gps tracks. It’s mainly a wellness device. The Oura ring does do that though and is a nice perk but it requires your phone to be with you for that functionality.
Great review 🤩Thinking on scratches on the matte version 😞 Ultrahuman now offers a skinny/glossy version. If you where to choose (knowing you have not tried the skinny/glossy version), which would you prefer (having possible scratches and "look" in mind)
Really wish it offered more... step tracker. Text or call notifications via light or vibrate ECT. I'll wait for technology to improve because still need to have phone to review all the information.. so I'll keep using my phone
But what about boxing? Does it integrate with other apps like apple fitness and polar? I have Apple Watch ultra but it’s way too bulky for sleep tracking. I also don’t wear it for my boxing training as it rubs against my gloves and can hurt myself or my partner. I typically wear my polar chest strap and Apple Watch has integration with polar, will UH read that too? It would be annoying to have a good boxing workout while my ring app tells me that I’m actually not moving enough…
Can anyone please explain me why people buy this kind of ring ? What type data is of any use to you ? Watched this vid and i must have missing something, because staff like - sleep, recovery, activity level ect.. - i know without ring app that my sleep was good or not, if im over trained or not, and certainly i do not need any device to tell me if i need to move more or less.. Is it just for people who like new gadgets or there is actually some use for it ? Just for clarification the only device i use is garmin watch and i use it exclusively while running to see my current HR, cadence and pace, maybe additional usefull is resting hr but honestly i do not like to wear it 24/7 And pls mind my question is honest, i honestly do not see the point - apart it look cool, but i have cool looking rings around which cost maybe $20 not $400 ...
Infinitely interested in this product! I think you answered it, but I'm guessing it does not write HRV/RHR/sleepstages/body temp to Apple health? That would be incredibly useful for utilizing other apps. And secondly, is it able to give you Super low readiness and sleep scores if you had a terrible night? My biggest complaint with Oura is even on terrible nights I would get still in the mid 70s for sleep score. Awesome review! And honestly it's a total huge steal at $350 because it comes in matte black! That's absolutely the color choice I would want, which costs $500 with Oura!
It writes body temperature, heart rate, and resting heart rate along with mindful minutes and blood glucose (if you have the other sensor they make) to Apple health
About the SpO2 it might easily be lower in your sleep, I'm super fit and still have very mild sleep apnea. If you have 97-98% in the day, you might easily have average of 94% during the night, as well as dips to 90% or even lower. Maybe that ring is showing the lows? Anyways, one way to know - get Wellue o2 ring and check, at 160$ its the best health related gadget I ever bought!
I see it converts your steps into approximate kilometers walked. Is there a setting to change it to miles? I prefer to count how many miles I've walked vs going based off steps alone.
Hey, Dave! Great job, as always! I’ve been using an Oura Ring Gen 3 since February 2022. Love it! I hope that you’ll do a complete review on the WHOOP 4.0. (Heart rate accuracy, HRV accuracy, etc.) I’ve had mine for three months now, and I think it’s magnificent! Keep up the great work! 👍👏💪
I also have a Whoop 4 and Oura 3 (paired with an AWU or Epix). I’m not so sure I will renew my Whoop subscription in its current state. It puts too much emphasis on HRV (imho) and the HR readings are always a bit off (higher) compared to my other devices. Oura scores often feel more balanced and the app is the best I’ve seen to date. Whoop is nice, but not as good/better as the price point suggests.
Current Garmin user. Looking to supplement that w/ something I can wear at night, or maybe even wear a different watch some days. What does the workflow look like with something like this? Do I use the UH app as the main app and only use Garmin for activity? Will it effectively replace everything else Garmin does? Does it sync well w/ Apple Health? Is Oura a better option in this scenario?
Hi there! I guess the answer is "no", but I still ask :) : is it possible to sync data with Garmin? (If I do a workout with my Fenix, is there a way to sync the data?). Thanks!
Hello, I have a question about the Ultrahuman Ring AIR. I'm using a Garmin sports watch and while doing exercises I pair an external heart rate sensor on the watch because the heart rate data from the external heart rate sensor is more reliable. Is it possible to pair the heart rate sensor of the Ultrahuman Ring AIR to a Garmin watch so I can use it as an external heart rate sensor?
How's the accuracy of the step counter? I found some pedometers count steps while driving or other activities that cause shaking that aren't really steps. I appreciate your feedback. Thank you
I tried to test the accuracy of the step counting. The best I could do was compare it to my Garmin 965. The garmin recorded roughly 22000 steps on a sample day while ultrahuman recorded 24000. Similar ballpark but not exact. With step counting consistency is more important than absolute accuracy so it's probably "good enough" for a baseline of activity.
I'm curious about hrv and recovery atm, but I'm torn between upgrading my forerunner 245 to a newer model or getting something like one of these smart rings.
What is the sampling rate for heart beat, blood oxygen, HRV, temperature etc. ?? If the sampling rate is 1 time every 15 minutes, it is nearly useless. I believe that a sample rate of 1 time every 30 seconds is the minimum for accurate data.
Hi, how accurately do you think the ring monitors your heart rate? I saw one other video saying it was way off compared to other products, but have not seen any other youtubers address this.
Here's the thing with Smart Rings. Accuracy is a huge variable due to everyone having different fingers, how snuggly the ring fits, color of skin, hair density, tattoos and more. Also, it's hard to pinpoint how accurate the raw data is because the ring only samples heart rate every few minutes throughout the day and is not continuous unless you're in "workout mode". That being said, with devices like this I often wonder how important raw data accuracy is. For example, if the data it's producing seems in-line with how you feel (low readiness score after a bad night of sleep) then who cares how accurate the raw data is? That's sort of how I feel with all of these devices (whoop, oura, ultrahuman, ect...). Accuracy is really only a factor if you're using these devices for working out in which case none of them are perfect. At the end of the day the biggest factor is getting consistent actionable data from the app. Which I do think it does. Hope that helps.
At this point I think the Ultrahuman stands the closest competition against Oura and the bonus is that there's no subscription. I'm still in the process of testing some others like RingConn... Stay tuned for that review!
Does these smart rings need to be connected to the phone through Bluetooth all the time? Of various reasons I dislike having Bluetooth on all the time.
It doesn’t need a constant connection and will store the data internally until the next sync but it will need to occasionally be connected to work properly.
@@ChaseTheSummit Thanx 🙂 Before potentially ordering one, I would definitely like to be sure if the smallest would fit my ring finger as I have slim fingers and don’t want it on my index finger. No one mentions the actual sizes in millimeters or similar. So I’m afraid to order it only to find out that none fits my ring finger. I wonder why no one mentions the precise size.
I’d rather Garmin improved their sleep tracking and invest in a single device that I need anyway for my fitness activities, i.e. Fenix 8 or Enduro 3. I keep my 7XSS on 24/7. I hope that Garmin will not move towards music, wireless calling and payment and try to become an Apple Watch. Garmin functions and should stay in a different world compared to Apple.
It’s in the right ballpark but I haven’t tested absolute accuracy. To be honest step accuracy isn’t very important it’s more about consistency so you can tell an active day compared to a sedentary day.
I bought the Ultrahuman Air Ring. I cannot recommend it to anyone in Europe. Insane problems with an incorrect amount on the customs invoice. It cost me hours of my time, which I would have preferred to spend differently. Absolutely bad buying experience. If I could turn back time, I would not make the purchase. I am also very disappointed with their support.
You should worry less about accuracy and more about relatability. Why? The most these things can really monit well is the trend over time. It doesn't matter if it's accurate (within reason) just that you know if it's going up or down.
I’m a 100% disabled combat veteran. I would give a million dollars if I could get a 3 min warning before I lose my cool. I have full sleeve tattoos so I can’t get an Apple Watch to work. Apple Store has an app the will be like an anger “ early warning system”. Will it work with this ring?
Sorry to hear that! I don't think this will serve that purpose unfortunately as it doesn't really provide any "Real time" stats to work form. It's really for analyzing after the fact.
Well, I gave this a go based on this video. My choice of course and I wanted to try something up and coming. My experience has not been good. My ring failed to record any data once I put my phone in airplane mode (bluetooth wifi still on). I work in aviation so my phone is in airplane mode everyday for hours. This issue rendered the data the ring provided as useless as there was huge gaps everyday with no recorded date at all. I got support and they told me several things to try. Stuff a moron would already try themselves before contacting support eg. cycle bluetooth on and off. Disconnect the ring and reconnect. Delete app and download again. Support told me to do a factory reset of the ring so I did. The ring now fails to connect to the app or my phone no matter what I do. They have now offered a replacement. Satisfactory outcome I guess except for the 4+ week wait for a new ring and the import customs charges I will have to pay once again on the same item.
When it worked I was happy with the product. This wouldn't put me off. I like how it's more focused on well being, sleep and mindfulness rather than full on fitness. I actually quit whoop for this. Their support was very helpful and quick to respond and once I get my replacement I'll continue to use it. @@ChaseTheSummit

Hi, I'm hoping you will see this comment/question and reply to it :) First of all, thank you for doing this video. What about the circadian rhythm tracking? On the Ultrahuman website and in other videos about the Air ring, I've seen this mentioned but you don't talk about it in your video. I'm currently debating between getting an Oura or Ultrahuman Air ring and I was leaning toward the Oura until I saw this interesting feature about the circadian rhythm on the Ultrahuman Air. But if it's not there, then I think I will just go for the Oura... Thanks in advance!
Circadian rhythm tracking is a feature within the app it basically displays your "Circadian Phase Alignment" on a clock (shown in the video) to let you know when you should start winding down and spending less screen time. Useful feature but once you learn habits probably not something you look at every day.
@@ChaseTheSummit Thank you so much for taking the time to answer, much appreciated. I rewatched the video and see now that when you start talking about the app features and the countdown, that's where "circadian" is mentioned. I had only see the clock version (with like different colors for the different zones) so I didn't put 2 and 2 together, my apologies. From what you say it sounds less interesting than I thought, thank you very much for your helpful feedback.
I suppose that there definitely is a market for these rings but I personally never really understood why anyone would want a ring when you can get a watch - for the cost of this one even for about the same price - that will do the same and a lot more, and at the same time allow you to view the collected data right there on your arm whenever you need it.

Low O2 saturation, could you have sleep apnea?
Since i would use only a Garmin to workout, is it correct to say that movement index will update based on the data found syncing with apple health?

This seems like what I'm looking for, but does it have a sleep alarm function like some of the others?
Unfortunately no alarm function on the ring itself as it doesn't have a vibration motor.
Can one work out/lift weights or play tennis while wearing either of these rings?
Absolutely
So for a subscription free ring, this is one you would recommend over all the others you have reviewed?
At this point I think the Ultrahuman stands the closest competition against Oura and the bonus is that there's no subscription. I'm still in the process of testing some others like RingConn... Stay tuned for that review!
Ultrahuman Air vs Circular Slim which would you pick?
Ultrahuman in my opinion.
My oura ring is a size 12 does anyone know if ultrahuman runs the same size? I’d rather not order the sizing kit if it’s the same as oura.
They were the same size for me but I did find Ultrahuman to run a tiny bit tighter than Oura
No monthly subscriptions? Ora charges 6 bucks? 🤣 that’s one expensive ring
is there any smart ring that provides continuous heart rate ?
No, because it will run out of battery is 4 hours.
I will wait for Garmin or apple to release a product like this. 😀
Is there a silent vibrating wake up call?
Nope
I’d rather Garmin improved their sleep tracking and invest in a single device that I need anyway for my fitness activities, i.e. Fenix 8 or Enduro 3. I keep my 7XSS on 24/7. I hope that Garmin will not move towards music, wireless calling and payment and try to become an Apple Watch. Garmin functions and should stay in a different world compared to Apple.
I can't seem to connect my UH ring despite it being shown as an option to connect to (Failed to connect message) Anyone else have this issue?
Hi ! Can I pay with this ring ? They have Apple Pay ? Or something like this?))
$529 cost in Australia
Does this ring have an active alarm?
Nope
Can it sync with the Google fit?
Yes
Does any ring have a buzz for notifications
Nope
How accurate is it for steps?
It’s in the right ballpark but I haven’t tested absolute accuracy. To be honest step accuracy isn’t very important it’s more about consistency so you can tell an active day compared to a sedentary day.
Can you use it on another finger?
Yes, you just need to size accordingly.
Sorry to hear that! I didn't run into those issues in the USA.

Yes, but typically not below 95%.
yes below 95
@@Lasombra08
@@davidbraswell1481 No, definitely not on average. 92% is considered low.

You should worry less about accuracy and more about relatability. Why? The most these things can really monit well is the trend over time. It doesn't matter if it's accurate (within reason) just that you know if it's going up or down.
The App is 200,- per year or 25.- month!?
The Ultrahuman app is free. No monthly subscription.
Yeah free subscription for now.
Sorry to hear that! I hope the replacement solves your issue. This is the first I've heard of something like this.
When it worked I was happy with the product. This wouldn't put me off. I like how it's more focused on well being, sleep and mindfulness rather than full on fitness. I actually quit whoop for this. Their support was very helpful and quick to respond and once I get my replacement I'll continue to use it. @@ChaseTheSummit
would be insane if the ring had gps
That would be seriously impressive.

Fellow “Massachusettian” 🍀 subscribed! You have convinced me - how is the integration with 🍏 health? For a casual exercise for someone trying to lose weight, what would you recommend? This or the whoop? (Assuming money is not a problem?)
You’ve used up your “it is what it is” quota for this month
It is what it is.
@@ChaseTheSummit Ahhh you got me
No subscription for now give it a year ??? . I do believe the oura ring was no sub but I could be wrong also how does a company really grow when there is no income as such coming in ? Apart from a single purchase only so many rings will be sold again I could be totally wrong
Time will tell
Hi, I'm hoping you will see this comment/question and reply to it :)
First of all, thank you for doing this video.
Not sure how this would be any better than sleeping with my Garmin on. I am intrigued by it though.
It’s pretty similar but if you don’t like sleeping with a watch on it’s nice to still get the metrics!
@@ChaseTheSummit good point!
I suppose that there definitely is a market for these rings but I personally never really understood why anyone would want a ring when you can get a watch - for the cost of this one even for about the same price - that will do the same and a lot more, and at the same time allow you to view the collected data right there on your arm whenever you need it.
Maybe you wear a real watch?
