Honestly ranks in tekken are horseshit,Ive seen people LEAUGES apart in skill on the same rank .It depends on so many factors that it just isn't accurate to call a fujin better than a mighty ruler.Small things like learning optimal combos, ducking strings, learning frame data etc are much better to determine your skill.

    • @noidsuper
      @noidsuper 4 місяці тому +34

I don’t think those things are accurate either. More than frames, or matchup knowledge, things like fundamentals are what really set players apart. Things like neutral, adaptability, understanding of turns and mind games are far more indicative of skill than being able to execute an optimal combo.

Wrong sometimes. I've encountered blue ranks on MULTIPLE occasions that are just braindead mashers, especially King and Victor players. They're very flow charty and try to get you with your lack of knowledge about their character. When you actually know their character, they have no idea what to do next.

Another thing to consider is your character pick.
Getting to Mighty Ruler on King is not the same as getting to it on Bryan/Kazuya/Lee, the work you need to put in is completely different.
So if you hit these ranks on a hard character, pat yourself on the back.

@@EnjinFGC I have a friend who is terrible at fighting games but picked King, he's currently sitting at Fujin with a 37 defense score, all he does is spam armor moves, random hopkicks and throws and wins hella games.
I have a friend who plays Lee (I also play Lee)
He's also Fujin, 76 defense, he wins games by tactically conditioning opponents, blocking strings, hitting optimal punishes and combos and just generally being smart about his play, if you were to get them to switch characters, the Lee player would be able to play King to Fujin with ease, but the King player wouldn't have a single clue how to escape Vanquisher with Lee.
It's definitely not the same amount of effort and knowledge put into the game

@@Josefuumii true, those characters that are labeled as "hard" are not hard because of execution (though Kazuya is definitely on the hard side in terms of execution) but because they don't have funny gimmicks and strings that knowledge check people and have to actually learn conditioning, positioning, game sense, side stepping, block punishing etc... in order to see real progress.
Also Tekken 8 rank inflation is HUGE, you can see people who still play like this is a 2D game in top 5-10%. I used to be Yellow in Tekken 7 with Kazuya and although I definitely improved I don't think I deserve the Purple I am right now.

After thousands of hours in Tekken my biggest advice for new rank players would be to ignore rank and win rate as top 1 measure of your skill at start. Treat game like OSU! where you try to do best punish/combo/movement/read/etc. ofc you will fail, ofc you will lose rank.. but sometimes you win battle by making that one combo that you couldn't, you finally made punish for move that annoy you even if you lose the mach. Trust me with that attitude you will be able to rank passively without tryharding rank points. Everrone can pick some top tier char and perform very well to get fast high rank, but that not the point. And avoid playing salty, always bad idea, anger will make you more predictable and susceptible for traps of your opponent. GG have fun

    • @Shade84
      @Shade84 4 місяці тому +6

Why are you even looking at that? Is that how you cope with your loss, by comparing stats?
I also don't understand the stigma behind playing aggressively. The goal is to reduce your opponent's hp lower than your own, potentially knocking them out before the time runs out. To do that, you need to attack. Seems the only reason it's disliked is because it's difficult to deal with -- which means it works -- which means it's a valid strategy.

What matters is what small goals you can achieve like ducking strings and punishing. If you know my character in and out it’s going to come down to reads and movement.

Making it too purples is just a red ranks refined. The upper blue ranks and beyond know a lot of matchups and will knowledge check you in many ways. You misread the percentile for Garyu. The numbers shown in that chart are INVERSE percentiles so if 60% of players are garyu or above that means they're only better than about 40% of all players. You can double-check this by adding up the all percents from the first graph up to garyu and it comes out to 36.55%. That means a player isn't above average until they reach tenryu.

4:17 Honestly, it was that SAT analogy that made it click that it’s so arbitrary and hard to get a consensus. I mean hell, most people have realized that SAT scores are stupid. I was Saludatorian of my graduating HS class with a 1100, meanwhile one of my friends, who had a much lower GPA than me, had a 1500.
It’s the same for Tekken. I can be a Garyu all I want, but that won’t stop my brother in Warrior from being able to actively take sets from me in convincing fashion, simply due to an experience gap. In a general sense though, a Blue rank *should* be able to beat players far below their rank, but when you think of matchup knowledge, fundamentals, or even simply if this was their goody day of playing, a lot can really make a difference.
All of the yapping to say, just because you’re in a higher rank won’t auto equate to being better. Just make sure that you have a great grip on your character and the basics of the game, as you go higher incorporate more things into your arensal (Frametraps, optimal combos, good wall carry moves, etc). Above all though, *Dont treat this like a job, you’re meant to have fun while playing the game, and enjoy the process of learning more about the game.* With a good attitude, a lot of fun can be had in numerous different things, game or not.

    • @00Spiral007
      @00Spiral007 4 місяці тому

Most universities are moving away from using standardized tests (ACT/SAT) because they are historically prejudiced, but also because they aren't that great at determining student readiness for college. Need proof? Look at Texas and all the schools no longer requiring SAT/ACT for admission. And its not just here -- its the whole USA.
These metrics are just a collection of SOME data about a player -- nothing more or less. And none of it will save you in a tournament -- if you do good, it's because you did good. Not because you are a certain color. Does that mean you're a "good" player? Who knows? How are you defining it? It all gets muddy. Also, good players lose. Just because you get demoted doesn't automatically mean you suck.
Apply that back out to college, you got hella people who made billions and dropped out or flat never went. If money is your measure, then college doesn't mean much. If you are talking about achievement in a scholastic field, or a high-skill field, then yeah, college is going to be the way to meet the people who know how to help (and by that point, talking about your SAT score is like talking about making honor roll in 1st grade -- no. one. cares.)

The best way to get better at Tekken is to have your tekken community teach you. I have been playing with them a lot, got my ass beaten and learned a lot. We have a GoD in our community beat me, he isn't saying a word, nor communicate about what I should do, but for sure he's beating me with fundamentals like spacing, punishing. I would be lucky to land 2 or 3 combo juggles on him out of 10 matches. He's just untouchable, and now I learned how to punish properly and to be patient. Now I've been playing online tekken for 16 hours in, and now I'm in Fujin. Ranks just doesn't matter, your skill does.

Depends on region. Based on my anecdote here is my list for easier to harder regions, based on regions I can play with good connection. This only applies to ranks upto Mid Blue ranks btw.
Very Difficult: Middle East, Asia 1
    Difficult: South Korea, Asia 3
    Little Difficult: Asia 2, Japan
Phillipines players are really strong since they get to fight almost all Asian regions with decent connection.
Middle East region is now strong because it also includes Pakistan now. And it is harder for them to find matches. Asia 1 also sometimes includes Pakistan players, Nepal players, but mostly Indian players I think.
If I have to rate Europe region, maybe it is about one color inflated compared to Asia 2 server. But it is based on lounge and few European matches I had in Lounges or QMs. They noticably lack adaptability, punish, combo damage compared to Asia 2.

Love the production level of your video honestly! High spirit and fun commentary! Would love to see more!
But I feel like a deeper dive on the topic should've been done. No offense but to say "if you're orange you aren't very good" or "if you're blue then you're definitely good" is far too broad of a blanket statement. You'll see Xiaoyus and Yoshimitsus knowledge checking and flowcharting at Tekken King layer and not have very well invested fundamentals, then you'll see Jins and Shaheens playing their absolute hearts out with great fundies at the purple layer.
The game simply put is WAY too wide to just encompass everything under a "if you made it here, you're good" label, and it's not fair to anyone who hasn't made it there yet but clearly have the fundamentals to eventually make it. PLUS, let us not forget the fact that ranked point delivery is literally designed to PUSH everyone towards purple ranks. You don't even need a positive win rate to make it into purples, something like 40% will do it.
And I'm saying this as a guy who is currently pushing my 10th character (Jin) to Mighty Ruler and I can usually purple a character in 2-3 sessions. I still don't believe myself to be very good at the game despite that. ALSO, let's not forget that like-prowess matchmaking results in ranks meaning quite literally NOTHING because no matter your rank you'll always be matching with someone that is a similar prowess to you now and your rank literally is just a reflection of a positive/negative winrate at this point. (Trust me, at 10 characters learned, getting 200k prowess yellow rank players is wild, they play like they're on crack LOL)
But yeah, this isn't to be argumentative or anything. I just believe that attempting to pursue and reinforce the rank conversation is not good for the health of the Tekken community. The more people can separate their skill from their rank THE BETTER. Because it'll help people stick with the game for a longer time.

I’m at Tekken emperor with multiple characters. And I can tell you there are players a lot of players at Tekken king with zero fundamentals and more gimmicks who would be in green ranks in T7 lol I was TGP in T7 and a lot of pros don’t even play ranked which is why you see then at lower ranks then you would expect.

This is true. I've seen Kishins and Bushins that are all flow-chart. They overwhelm you with their offense and don't rematch so you never get to adapt and beat them. You look at their stats and their defense is in the 40s. No fundamentals. Absolutely pathetic.

I see what you’re saying. There are certainly players in high ranks that play easier characters but I dont think playing a difficult character vs a simple one makes one a better player. As far as people abusing flow charts or maxed out offense I still would consider that highly skilled despite how unbalanced of a play-style that may be.

I'm in blue rank and tbh even people in blue ranks are just knowledge checking with their characters the only difference between them and the lower ranks is they have a basic understanding of defense, will bait things instead of yolo mashing and know how to block basic strings to an extent, I definitely think blue ranks are pretty good, but I wouldn't call them (or even me) great at the game by any means.

And in my experience that didn’t happen to me until I got to fujin. Fujin is where defensive becomes just as important as offensive. You can’t win if you can’t hit your opponent and they just punish you the whole match. Anybody struggling to get to blue, learn to block and punish.

Thing is there are multiple factors to consider. Ranked matches go by Tekken Prowess. A person will have it easier Gavin one character ranked up than the person who bloated their prowess by playing multiple characters. Second, some characters go completely unchecked all the way to middle purple ranks, like King feeds on people who can’t break throws consistently, and the bears are nothing but gimmicks that most players do not learn.

I think that it depends also on WHEN you play: if you fight in the evening or in the afternoon you 'll find different skills in players with the same rank. Usually the more late in the evening /night you play, the more strong opponent you can face also with lower ranks.
This could be also because players have also other things to do (it's called life...!) and can be online concerning with work, sport, or school...it seems to me that professional players usually go online in the evening and keep on fighting until late night.

I'm rank Bushin Asuka player and I think this video is pretty accurate. However imo you are not good until you pass Fujin or maybe when you hit Kishin. In Blue Rank it's different as you keep going up from here you will fight people that know one or more of these 3 skills; how to side step/walk and punish you, ducking correctly with ws launch punish, or knowing character's frames so they will know on block what's the +frame is to punish you back correctly. Like Fujin doesn't count cause some people can get here with easy characters. I say if you truly wanna learn how to play tekken then definitely climb the Blue Rank.

Probably would be way beyond that if I stuck to Yoshi since Kaz is so bad in this game but it's funny to be generally better than the people you play, even if you lose
The biggest problem is that ranked matches are always best of 3 and there are so many one and doners that I don't get the necessary time to download all the cheese that gets thrown at me
Mandatory ft5 matches or get no points at all would put me beyond Tekken King easily.

Edit: for the win rate chart, around the middle the Paul, Jin, Lee-ish section it's basically because people have had to study the matchup for them. Bryan on down to like Xiaoyu/Steve is difficulty of the characters, Jun Kazuya and Reina is because so many people play the character and you see them so much you just naturally adapted to fighting them because you memorized the knowledge checks, also Kazuya kinda weak right now.

As tekken god, I can confirm, blue ranks know what they're supposed to be doing but always execute it very poorly or predictably. They also typically mash once they realise this. Above blue, each subsequent rank has huge skill gaps. A very difficult thing to describe but you basically haven't played tekken before this point. During my climb, I hated playing vs blue ranks because despite being completely free they didn't grant any points. The literal definition of a waste of time. And this is coming from someone who's nowhere near the top rank.

this makes sense but is also wrong.
Both games are skewed in ranking but for different reasons.
Tekken has cheating mechanics all over it still on PC, so crossplay and PC matches i just dont trust at all. Tekken 7 was flooded with bots and cheat engine stuff all over and nobody believed it until 8's launch and people realized how bad it still is because Tekken 8 cant actually catch cheaters in the act red handed and then disqualify them, Bamco and Tekken Project just sees who has used cheats after a match ended, and they only bother to study a player if theyre reported. the cheat methods for 7 and now in 8 are ridiculously busted. 8 also has the pump and dump issues of players leaving after a single match and never doing a best of 3 or 5 it is, im tired i forget. Ive also been convinced that PC players have found a way to look and pretend as a Playstation player or Xbox player with a fake PSN or Xbox profile all the time, Microsoft is so malleable in software and cheaters played on 360 all the time in shooters, PSN has gotten DDoS'd before, so none of this even matters.
League of Legends is a completely different animal. League has toxic chat, has toxic trolls, iron, bronze and silver players throw deliberately as trolling all the time. People drop out of matches and that still determines, you could end up playing a 3v5 and losing an unfair fight and it fully counts as an L.
Tekken and League are equally hard for their own unique reasons. But I would argue Tekken 8 is inflated with players who are high rank and shouldn't be based on true skill because of how abusive the unbalanced roster is.
I have buddies who were emperor on T7 and its unbalanced as hell now, im Fujin Lars, I kept dropping from the first purple rank in 7 a month before 8 came out.
Theres a lot of players who are just so aggressive against less aggressive players, and they steamroll them cuz of 8's new changes. But one you find a hole to poke and knowledge check the aggressive players, you see them panic and become very predictable like a 5 year old.
I was told ages ago on T7's launch and in arcades, many characters were notoriously busted in several different ways, Paul could easily do a death combo on you and his unblockable did like 60% hp. Lili was a nightmare in 7 in arcades and in launch.
It seems like Tekken starts out as vinegar in terms of balances and ends up as wine as time passes, and League is like that with each new champ and rework.

How can you say diamond starts in the top 8%? Diamond is top 18-20% so diamond starts at Fujin. Yellow is bronze/iron. Orange is silver. Red is gold. Purple is plat. Blue is diamond and Bushin is where the masters ranks start
