Life Force was originally a spinoff from Gradius called Salamander with a simpler power-up system, vertical scrolling levels, and co-op. From there I believe there was a re-release of Salamander in Japan called Life Force. Then when ported to the Famicom it reclaimed some of it's Gradius similarities. Further when ported to the NES it lost it's multiple endings and an extra option.
Oh my God!!! This soundtrack is almost perfection!!! Tracks like Equipment, Burning Heat, Dead End and Salamander Boss Fight make me have an eargasm all times I listen to them. One of the best soundtracks of all times!!! Why in the world Nintendo didn't brought this to the NES???
love this game, so much that i obtained it and a famicom converter from Pinball and rigged up my own "US NTSC" copy. custom label and the works, also had to remove some of the plastic inside the cartridge to get it to fit. worth it though.
I lost mad weight playing ddrmax2 and burning heat is the best song on the game everytime I go to an arcade and play ddrmax2 this is the first song I choose
You can blame Nintendo's "no non-MMC mapper" rule for this one not making it. This game used the VRC4 chip in the homeland, and apparently Konami figured it wouldn't be very cost effective to go through with the conversion. But hey, we did get Bayou Billy! :P
I know. Only VRC6 and VRC7 have audio enhancements. Nintendo's chip policy prohibited ALL non-MMC chips from making it over, audio enhancement or none.
Probably with NSF software. The FC and NES don't output stereo sound, without modification. Even then, it doesn't sound quite like this. I actually recorded a couple tracks from my "stereo modded" NES - some games work ok with it, but some sound better in mono.
How did you get stereo sound? It's amazing. I have that game. It's original copy but my Japanese Family Computer don't have AV out. The only way to connect to TV is via RF channel 95 (cable mode) and it's mono.
+ym2612 You do not speak for everyone. However I would say this mix is a bit out of balance with fine details being lost due to too much reverb being applied.
Damn, this is a MAJOR improvement over Gradius 1's music.
+Kevin Striker
I know right?
Especially "Burning Heat" and "Fortress"! :D
And the game itself is super. I played it for months. Great replayability and quite a balanced difficulty...well, you know...Gradius.
Not to mention, it a massive transformation from an adventure turn into a kicking alien butt war.
Love this!! I need a 30 minute session of Take Care somehow!
"Burning Heat" is my favorite soundtrack of this game.

It was due to limitations.
The Famicom has an extra chip that allows for more storage, which is why there are voice clips and 4 options in this game.
Amazing OST, the fuzzy effects makes a really good work.
I'll say this while I love Gradius 3 Music so much, This music sure freakin out does anything gradius 1 did!
It should have been released mang!
Farewell me trae recuerdos de Castlevania III.... Grandioso.
Overheat sounds so bloody cool!
Thanks for the upload x)
Underrated nes soundtrack
All the Gradius soundtracks are awesome.

Well, now I know which Gradius game Burning Heat came from. Burning Heat is one of my favorite DDR songs.

YES! The music finally doesn't make my ears bleed!
Oh hey Jon ;^)
+Electric Ochlocrat what the hell was I smoking, the original arcade soundtrack is amazing what the hell is this comment and why does it exist

+cartman414 Actually, the American NES physically didn't allow any sound expansions...
+alienspacebat True. But I have a sinking feeling Nintendo might have nixed it anyways.
I don't think VRC4 supports expansion audio anyways. If it does, I've never heard that and there isn't a section on the NES dev wiki about it.
I know. Only VRC6 and VRC7 have audio enhancements. Nintendo's chip policy prohibited ALL non-MMC chips from making it over, audio enhancement or none.
And Gradius II is definitely much better.

You think you could upload the first Gradius OST too, WiiGuy ? That'd be so cool :) Love your channel
i love the music soooo much in this game!!!!!!!
5:07, 9:57, 12:19 Best theme! :D
I get goosebumps each time I get to the seventh stage (11:22) So EPIC.
I like that old school arcade gardious 2 1986 and nes gradius 2 1988 game and nes gradius 2 soundtrack 1988
Track 5 and 9. So that is where the music from Captain N came from.

awww yeah!
Mono and dry is all we need, thanks.

What about that time we played Life Force right to the end?
Woah. A part of Burning Heat sounds exactly like the Super C ending. Shame on you, Konami :D
yeah i also hear some parts that sound just like LifeForce. but you can steal from yourself right?
Me jugaba este juego por el puro soundtrack
Tabidachi makes me want to go fly the Vic Viper.
Life Force is actually co-op gameplay.
船の時間の最高のゲーム✌melhor jogo de nave da época
juegardo !
always been curious about the relationship between gradius and lifeforce. Is it just single player game vs multiplayer?
Both 2 players simultaneously and single player and the music is even better
I think the only Gradius game that was Co-Op was V. I could be wrong, since I have not touched one of these games in four years.
“Option!”
Exactly ! And it's sooo much fun ! (Stealing your partner's lives with A+B) :)
Why didn't the nes version didn't come to America
Fortress! lml
This game is JPN only.
I have to know is the name of this pronounced gray-dius or grah-dius?
The Japanese katakana says grah-dius, the voice narration of Gradius Gaiden says grah-dius, but the voices in Gradius V says gray-dius.
That the movie 1985 life force space movie nes life force 1987
And of course, us Americans never got it on the NES. Konami was pulling dick moves even back then.
fortress es la mejor
Contra in space
It's a good soundtrack for sure, but in my eyes, it ain't no Lifeforce!
