  • This video shows how to change your oil and filter on a Jeep Wrangler JK 3.8L Engine. It also includes a BONUS Section on How to do an Oil Engine Flush. This is a simple step by step video.
The Jeep used in this video is a 2009 Jeep Wrangler X Unlimited JK.
The Oil used is Full Synthetic 5W-20 and this engine takes 6 quarts of oil.
The Filter used is a MOPAR filter M0-049.
The Engine Flush used (OPTIONAL Process) is a Pro-Line product called Liqui Moly Engine Flush. Please research this product and read all materials about how to use it. In this video we added it to the oil and ran the engine in IDLE only (do not drive) for 10 minutes. Then we followed the normal oil changing process by draining the oil. Only do this with a professional automotive service advisor recommendation.
SAFETY RISKS - To avoid chemical or material in your eyes wear Safety Glasses. Wear gloves to protect your hands and be careful working around a hot engine to avoid burns. Wheels should be chocked and emergency brake on to avoid vehicle movement. Always use an oil pan to catch the oil and recycle responsibly.
The oil pan drain plug torque is 20 ft lbs. The oil filter torque is 18-20 ft lbs or hand tight until it reaches the base and an additional 1/4" turn of the filter. Always run the engine and safely check for leaks when complete. Tighten as necessary.
Please use caution and understand the risks when working on your vehicle. Use a professional service technician to avoid risks to your vehicle. Subscribe to our Channel for more Jeep modifications and maintenance tips. #jeepwrangler #jeeplife #jeep

I have an 09 with the 3.8l also. Ive found 5w40 to run great in mine. Im currently using shell rotella t6 5w40 heavy duty diesel oil and lubegard biotech. I used to run 5w30 but 5w40 seems to handle the heat better and not burn off.

I posted your comment but where do you live, because in the southern states I have not tried going up in weight. I like 5W-20. Thanks for watching!

@@JohnsJeepGarage Louisiana. I also ran full synthetic 10w30 when we had the great freeze of 2021 and the shorter one back in January of this year. These 3.8l were engineered for 10w30 originally. Apparently they never changed anything to make it spec 5w20 and just backspeced it for CAFE reasons.
