Chen should’ve just been a regular cop. Now she’s traveling around Terra as some stupid ass ambassador for Lungman because why the heck not!? HG be like “Let’s just give Chen a job/reason to be anywhere we want her to be cuz she’s our favorite little Star Child.”

8:23 I guess I can agree from a purely narrative and thematical standpoint, but only when looking at the USSG exclusively.
Gummy fights with OCD, violent tendencies, and severe PTSD, and the quest to find her parents
Zima fight with a literal Persona 4 Golden "I am a shadow, the true self" entity in her dreams, and also with the fact that growing up the USSG members are going their separate ways and how deep down she needed that company
Rosa fights with the extreme guilt of being the leader of the nobles in Peterheim, and also with believing the other USSG members hate her and don't accept her
Leto fights with damn near alcoholism and has her whole story in Kjerag
Meanwhile all we know from Istina's time in Peterheim is that she killed her best friend Vika under Zima's orders, and not much is done with that. We only see she has a teddy bear named Vika and records video journals to cope with it. Her mental struggles are definitely the least explored of the bunch.
Istina is more the character that helps the other ones in the USSG grow: Gummy faces her OCD through something Istina says, Zima's struggles are shown through her connection with Istina, and so on. I mean, for crying out loud, Istina's second op record ends up exploring Leto, Zima and Gummy a lot more than her.
But when taking into consideration every other char, FEater and Aurora got way less going on.

Istina is boring for most people due to her lackluster response towards her own mental state, but I can understand that since she is one of those people who suffered from trauma and somehow being numb to it just because they are getting used to their trauma, these people aren't really "healthy" since people like these are the ones that are willingly to put themselves on the sideline to help others just because they want to help and usually even downplay their own suffering to make others felt better about themselves
I would agree that she is boring to most people, but she's probably the most admirable of the bunch to people who understands trauma or growing up in a place that literally caused their trauma, admirable because she made herself into a boring NPC for others, though HG should've explored more about her
And she loves books, that's a massive plus

Texas was the only member of Penguin Logistics who bothered to remember Sora's "cipher" with the package of pocky sticks she left as a warning. Croissant was like, "Wait, you took her seriously?" and Texas says she memorized what Sora told her as if that was the most natural thing.
Texas tried to murder Mostima in Exusiai's second operator record because she thought Mostima was emotionally toying with the younger angel, and said she hoped Mostima died in a ditch somewhere that Exusiai never heard about. But later in the OpRec Texas admits she was wrong about Mostima's intentions and so changed her mind.
Texas defended Bison from the others, saying "we can't be mad he led the mafia back to us when we left him behind and he caught up to our motorcycles on a pedal-bike." She gave Bison the critical kick in the pants he needed to start accepting the chaos and taking initiative. She ordered her friends to help her keep the Lungmen citizenry safe from a possibly bomb threat.
For most of IL SIRACUSANO, Texas is sulking because she does NOT want to be back in Siracusa, she doesn't want to be following orders or killing people. She does NOT want her friends to watch her murder people to buy her own freedom.
Texas has multiple scenes where she dwells on her feelings of alienization in Siracusa, like she doesn't belong and doesn't WANT to belong no matter how much everyone tells her she does and wants her to stay. And those scenes showed she felt the same alienization in Columbia.
She cares about her own story, but she decided her story belongs in Lungmen with her friends. She cares enough about her backstory to insult Giovanna's rosy glamorization of the Texas Famiglia. Even going so far as to describe how she listened to her father murder her grandfather, and by implication did nothing to save either man's life because she had come to hate them both so much.
Yet when she thinks Giovanna died, Texas has a Blue Screen Of Death as she tries to accept that and decide whether she wants to just cut and run from Siracusa or finally stand up and fight to change it.
Earlier than that, Texas decides to care about Penance, doing what she can to help and protect the one good woman she's found in the country.
9:38, I have read the line as "tumor orphans". It was really unexpected and I started processing how that shit is morally good thing, because Nearl is meant to do good stuff. So, tumor orphan and soon you get less orphans. Seems about right.

That would be fun, I generally like bringing positivity to my videos, I think it's more fun to work like that, this seemed like a fun way to highlight some of my less enjoyed characters that I wish were better

Saria is the woman who fails at everything she actually wants to achieve. She failed to protect Ifrit, she lost Silence's trust, she lost Kirsten...
Nearl succeeds at everything she wants to do... at least, in the story. Her backstory is where all of her character flaws and failures are hidden.
To be fair with Talulah, pretty much every character blames her for what happened in Chernobog, to include Talulah herself. Episode 13 basically included the windup for a Talulah redemption arc.
While that's at least good from the standpoint that the writers have most of the cast respond to Talulah's actions in an understandable way, it annoys the readers in a different way because we know Talulah isn't as responsible as everyone -- especially Kaschei -- says she is.
Sitting back in suicidal depression as Kachei killed everyone IS bad, but it's clearly not equal to Kaschei intentionally and enthusiastically setting out to kill everyone. Without Kaschei pulling her strings, Talulah would have just curled up and died. Or possibly gotten the help she needed.
But Kachei took over and effectively isolated Talulah by keeping anyone from realizing she needed their help.
just because some one doesn't remember they killed someone doesn't mean they didn't kill them. and just because I also killed someone doesn't mean I can't hate them for killing someone I love. it's not logical, neither are innocent, but kal'tsit's character is reasonable. she also does slowly warm up to the doctor and come to terms with the fact that the man she hated so much is dead.
Now we know why Kal can look down on Doktah and not be a hypocrite

In defense of Suzuran, I will say it's not her fault she is popular enough to have 3 skins. On another note, Utage has 2 free skins and still no story, and I need more Utage content asap... When we going to Japan (Arknights ver.)?

I guess compared to the other siblings Ling doesn't really do much but I get the vibe that it's on purpose because she's basically a drunk poet at the end of the day

Kal was never the character that made me start skipping story in events, that honor goes to silence and muelsyse in mansfield break, and then was solidified with under tides being absurdly wordy without anyone even talking
When reading Near Light story, I actually found myself more interested in other characters (mostly uncle) than margaret.
Was Arturia ever the villain tho? Don't get me wrong a lot of things go wrong because of her but she was never like "Nyehehehe Imma make your girlfriend try to take take your gun from you making you accidentally shoot her."
On Ch'en and Tallulah too I'd argue is a EN can't read moment ngl cause Kaschey literally says that the only reason they got that far is because Tallulah gave up resistance making her complicit in pretty much everything that happened in the Reunion arc and it's due to that fact and others that Ch'en goes wandering around on her own journey.
I mean you can SAY that but if Kaschey doesn't get to take people over in the first place you never get there, and it's clear once you falter that's it until the very end of the chapter, it's a cop out to justify talulah not being that bad while Kaschey is the grand villian, when it could have been that talulah's heart was hardened from years of people not changing the way oppressed people have felt violence was their only respite throughout history, but in the end it's dragon man control me cause I lose GF
@livingrain but it wasn't? Losing Alina wasn't where Tallulah gave up. It was later when she went to a village looking for the Infected that went there in search for food only to find out that instead of denying the infected or running them off the villagers locked up the infected and left them to starve which upon finding out she burns the village that wasn't Kaschey making her do it it was Tallulah and even later in the confrontation Kaschey explains that to take full control of Tallulah her connections needed to be destroyed which is why the Reunion leaders are sacrificed.
@@shadymann9468 But this just feels like it was a retcon later considering Talulah acts exactly as Kaschey wants from start to the end conflict where only when Ch'en does the anime "I know you're in there somewhere!" Is she even trying. HG wanted to give a way out to justify a playable talulah is my theory because it doesn't really make sense for Kaschey to have to do any of that when talulah was not offering resistance to whatever he wanted for so long. But I get what you mean if I reread chapter 8 I'll pay close attention to the monologue 👍
@livingrain You see that's cause Kaschey was already there, Darknights Memoir when the Trio goes to work for Reunion Ines sees 2 shadows in Talulah which with the attempt on her life later is meant to setup something wrong with Talulah and that's the most obvious of the foreshadowing before chapter 8 since Talulah seemingly monologing in third person or the difference between how Faust and Mephisto see Talulah ultimately I'll admit it was kinda cheap having Kaschey behind the wheel most of the time but the fact that Talulah allowed them to do everything they did is an interesting conflict and concept people tend to forget about.

It's less about his warcrimes and more about how bland, lazy, cartoonish and flat of a villain he is. The fact that he is wasting *a lot* of screentime that could've been given to a far more interesting villain is the only real sin he committed.

There is a reason that the Kazi series was written as such. Due to the 6 month gap and the great firewall, a lot of EN players are completely oblivious to what happened between Dossoles and Near Light in the CN community- the addition of a new limited pool and an accumulation of previous unanswered concerns gave momentum for a shitstorm to brew, and with I shit you not, you-know-which-game’s players literally teaming up with a group of preexisting doxxers, far too many content creators were harassed in very dirty ways.
By that point the local communities on several websites were completely fucked over, the forums had the mods throwing away their job and allowing the community there to devolve into a replication of Kazdel, Bilibili comment sections had hundreds of thousands of shit-throwing comments, and everybody thought it was the end of Arknights, even HG as a company. Masses of players quit because of this all.
The Kazi story was likely meant to be a tragedy as seen in the first files of defender Nearl, but they probably decided to turn the narrative for once. The doktuhs still waiting for any response were desperate for some form of “comeback”, if you will, and what better symbolism is there?
The 2.5 anni was the least grossing pool of all the anni pools, I believe, but the game survived. Though the CN community is forever changed and all the old players still hold some form of PTSD over the matter, the game continued to grow again until this day.
The cities of Kazimierz had many inspirations from metropolitan China, where a hypercapitalist dystopia flourish on the broken corpse of past beauty, glory, or simple moral standards that crawl in the unlikely corners of the city. When one stands in the electrical desolation under these unseen stars and rolling clouds, well, the rest is self-explanatory.
The biggest problem with Nearl's writing is that the story never focuses on her brash, hot-headed younger self who picked a fight with The System and lost even after she won. Her biggest failures and character flaws are hidden in the backstory, with the story focusing on her after she's undergone character development and gathered all of her necessary allies.

I'm slowly playing through chapter 7 now, and while somethings are picking my interest, like Patriot and Tallulah being more in the spotlight (maybe I should have skipped the Tallulah section but well...) and the Doctor actually existing for once, I feel he dialogues and monologues are getting more tiring, especially when Kaltsit is on the scene. I feel I can sort through Wei and Fumizuki's circular talking and get the point I think the story is trying to make, but Kaltsit is just boring to read because she's intent on giving non-answers so I never feel like I get something new whenever we see her talking. Not helped that a good part of her character revolves around the Doctor and I dislike them for more meta reasons, so there's not much left.
Chen on the other hand I don't think is that bad, but that's mostly because she is the protagonist of the Lungmen chapters so I learned to accept her. Though I still haven't reached the conclusion of her arc, and it seems like your point is that she hasn't either haha I'll have to keep going see it myself.

P.S. that's the only novel and gacha game i playing, so might be the reason, just don't have anything to compare with and never saw something better
Nah I genuinely don't think the arknights writing is bad and hell if I'm 100% honest a lot of this video is hyperbole cause I think it's more fun to write something with either exaggerated praise or hate. For example, as much as I do not care for Nearl, I thought Near Light as a whole was really good
In conclusion arknights is great at world building but often misses in character building
I think I would dislike Texas and Nearl a lot more if they were men. The fact that they are hot women makes their flaws as characters easier to ignore for me

I don't think it's a fair assessment on Manfred, we all know that every major character has a spotlight somewhere in the main story, but it haven't shone on Manfred just yet due to how much we don't know about him, maybe he gonna get that W treatment with his own backstory and redeem himself before the arc is over

Manfred however got none any of this, we don't know what he's thinking, we don't know what kind person he is, we don't know his motivation, his dialogue are boring
the only attempt at characterization are when he mention about sarkaz suffering and how he's seen hell.

Frostnova,Patriot,Kristen,Mandragora already an interesting character with Clear motive in 1 Chapter alone
but manfred can't do any of that in 3 chapter.
like i said, if you dont mind Bland character being bland with hopium they'll go great on later part of story it's all good.
but what i said are legit critism for how poorly they handle manfred, i can't see future so i don't know if he gonna be great or not.
but for sure i can tell now that he's sucks and i dont need to wait potentialy 1-2 years to tell that he's sucks.

Admittedly, my knowledge of Arturia is limited to her one-shot manga, a video about her duality, and operator records from Executor Alter and herself. I have not read Hortus de Escapismo or Zwillingsturme I'm Herbst (but I plan to!), so take this with a pound of salt. I've never been the type of person who would be highly philosophical, and absorbing information from reading has never been my strong suit, however, I feel like saying the quality of her character goes down purely because joining Rhodes Island seems a little harsh. In my opinion, I saw her as a villain (even though she's the main antagonist of Hortus de Escapismo and I haven't read it yet...), but more closely to her in a way being a misguided character. From this point on, spoilers are for her and Federico's one-shot, so stop reading if you don't want spoilers.
After her mother reads a story to her, she seemingly gets a sudden spark of inspiration and inadvertently uses her arts on her mother. Arturia seeing her mother's reaction and her eagerness to set off to the war was likely the catalyst that started Arturia's desire to release people's inhibited desires. I would go on more, but I should probably study for my finals... my point is that her actions won't be justified, even if the reveals did "lighten" her judgment, and that her joining Rhodes Island shouldn't be a demerit towards her character. The majority of operators you get aren't even official operators of Rhodes Island, and this most likely applies to Arturia too. I've heard that she is here due to her being monitored by Rhodes Island to take her back to Laterano, but I could be wrong (my knowledge is pretty bare-bones due to lack of LORE reading). There's also the option of her simply having her goals align with Rhodes Island, and temporarily being contracted like many other operators. This is my opinion about her as a character, and if you couldn't tell, I may or may not be biased because I found her as a beautiful character at first, but later on a character I found really quite interesting. Do remember to take 50 pounds of salt when reading this, as like I said many times, my knowledge is LIMITED to the Federico and Arturia one-shot, and both of their operator records.

I don't like her but she would probably have avoided the list as it seems the writers more just make her delusional and/or mentally ill as opposed to trying to justify everything she does like they've done before. So overall I'd say she's ok, my lack of faith in HG was proven wrong on that one.

I am very burnt out with Arknights' story. I fell in love with it's world, all the possibilities and interesting settings and the mature themes...
But I started feeling like the way everything is handled is just not good at some point and slowly lost interest.
I believe it started with the second chapter of the Victoria arch, where we learned that basically the only reason the sarkaz were able to pull off their coup was because EVERYONE in Victorian nobility and military is either a self serving traitor or an incompetent moron if not both.
I literally got bored and stopped reading halfway through the last sui siblings event and have not read a single event or story chapter since.
I just can't find the time or the will to sit down and read a book worth of text walls that could be summarized in a few sentences. Kalt'sit is the worst offender, but it's a fucking trend.
Everyone has to give you a philosophy class and every story has to be a convoluted mess.
To be honest, the only reason I'm still playing is a mixture of FOMO and sunk cost fallacy.

Nearl is a Mary Sue is quite a stretch, I would say, she has her moments, like fighting against Mlynar's advice because he was written to be a corpo bootlicker that believes nothing can be changed, which is not supposed to make you agreeing with him, Nearl actions perharps changed his mind, which is why he decided to take a "vacation" in the end for the search of his brother.
Maria is also not quite exactly like what you said, her dream isn't quite being a knight, and we knew she always has a knack for mechanical work, as a hobby, she idolized her sister, and wants to know more about Nearl, this is the main factor that influenced her decision to join the Major in the first place, which is a foolish endeavor, she almost lost to plastic knight, and further fighting, especially after the two Sarkaz assassin, would put her life quite in danger, she does not have her own beliefs yet, blindly following her sis, which is a nice build up to future developments, that is why it is called Maria Nearl event, and the next part is Nearl Light, of course it is gonna have Nearl as the spotlight.
Roy is also not quite really pure bad, or Monique, or Platinum, they fight on the wrong side, and pretty enjoyable as antagonists, probably selling soaps rn (lol), the only true villains in the events are Darksteels, and KGCC higher ups who gives command in the shadows, which Nearl failed to even budge them in the slightest after the event.
She also showed that she is not capable of everything, like her first introduction is her almost got killed by Talulah, then Ace had to sacrifice in order to buy time, or that she has alway able to use that swordlance, her shield is the new weapon for her, which she uses as a defender operator bc it is her role, she didn't took up a new weapon, she reuses it, in fact they kinda downplayed her strength in Nearl light, she is not a competition knight, she has years of real war and battle experiences, making her a campaign knight, and campaign knight are a different beast, compare to competition knights who just spent their time training and fighting in the major, so it is surprising she's even struggle in the major, with knights that haven't even seen what a real battle is like.
One more thing, the ending of her carrying the bloodknight is one of the most beautiful, and well written part in a9, she has to fight the infected's champion, after it has been revealed that she is not infected, whether she loses or wins, it's not gonna be pretty, we know that, we can guess that, yet she managed to make it the best outcome, by simple good sportmanship, which is severely lacking in the Major, you make it sounds like good sportsmanship is bad, probably for comedic purpose.
Anyway, this is long, very long, I know you exaggerate things for comedy, but I don't know if you really think so or not, and that is so far from the true message of Nearl light that it is probably best to just tell you, and why I think so, is that I also like making offensive jokes, the best ones are the ones you half believe it is true, so I just assume you might actually one or two thing you said.
nearl is so bad that i consider near light to be the worst event, despite the plot being pretty neat with a few nice angles. if it wasn't for the heavy lifting tola does on it, i'd give it a -3/10 for being 10 goddamn hours of simping for yellow horse (and not even the slutty yellow horse), but the crazy mongol comes in and says something cool for a few minutes and the pinus girls do some cyberpunk shit here and there and that saves it for a sec, so i give it a 4/10.

Arknights has a real problem with female characters that it tries to make badass and mysterious but just end up being aloof and unpleasant.

I am starting to realize that a lot of what these characters have in common, is that they're the kind of characters who think they're too important for the plot, and thus don't actively try to expand on themselves, unless if it meant something more direct for them. But even then, it is kind of the bare minimum of their development

7:58 Wrong character, should've been Jessica. If you count her alter, that's like 4 skins. Heck, she's like the worse 4 star sniper, at least Mayer and Meteor got some utility, Jessica's kit is literally "Yeah I'll take the hit for you guys I can dodge" AS A SNIPER. Her entire kit falls flat from literally basic game mechanics of placing the defender last. Oh and if you argue she can dodge patriot spears, she has a 40 second sp cost, with 20 second initial sp on s2. If you are using her s1, might as well use Kroos.
I have not read the Black Steel story, but the only saving factor for Jessica in lore is that she provides a viewpoint of what someone normal would react to during Yelena's first encounter. She does not appear anywhere else until chapter 9 and 10. Also that anime meme where Kal states they should be absolutely stealthy only for Jessica to mirk 3 reunion soldiers.
Also about Nearl actively harming everyone else's narrative. Mylnar in the Maria Nearl event was merely used as a sequel bait because of the duel. He should have been the one to be active in the Near Light event and also save Maria against the Sarkaz knights duo. But nope, he is THEN used as sequel bait again as he heads off to find Nearl's parents or whatever. Mylnar should have been limited, not NTR knight.
