    This video makes much more sense than some of the others I have watched on doing the split chain. Thank you!

    I keep coming back to your videos because they're such a great resource, and I've commented previously about this video. This time, I just wanted to say that the necklace you show in this video is just gorgeous, and I'm wondering why we're not seeing more of your design work. You clearly have an eye for design. Seriously, you should consider having a shop on Etsy or starting a separate UA-cam channel where you can showcase your ideas. What an incredible talent.

      +ginachabuca Thank you so much for watching. I am so happy I could help you understand how to do the split chains. They are a wonderful technique to use when climbing out of one round into another. Less ends to tie in with this technique. I hope you enjoy your tatting adventure. Happy Tatting.

      I really appreciate your sharing of your God given talent. My mom always said to give the flowers while we were able, she's not here anymore but her teachings are always with me. So thank you for posting on UA-cam and helping me so much.

    Love your creativity with the steampunk! What size thread do you use when making jewelry?

    Hi Tami, I have watched this vid over and over again to get this technique down like I did with the split rings vid. How is the necklace going? i have a fresh shuttle full of thread ready to give this a try.I think I get it and think there might be a way to make split rings with ball thread using the split chain idea. will you be doing more with onion rings or maltese rings? Looking forward to the fall. Tiffany.

    Tamie, thank you for this really clear explanation/demonstration of a split chain. I watched other videos, but they weren't helpful at all. After watching your video, it makes perfect sense.
    I do have a question about how you did the split ring. When you started the second half of the split ring, it looked like you were doing the double stitches in the usual order, instead of doing the second half of the double stitch first. Am I seeing this wrong?

    • @BeginningTattingVideoSeries
      @BeginningTattingVideoSeries  6 років тому

      Nope you didn't see it wrong I just did it backwards. My bad. Split rings are done 2nd half first and 1st half second to get it to match the other side. I have another channel that has more tutorials as well as better videos and it is on there and done right. Shuttle class ua-cam.com/users/GeorgiaSeitzOnlineBeginningShuttleTattingClass I hope this helps you.

      Thanks for the quick response!. I did subscribe to that other channel, but I've only gotten to lesson 8 (folded joins). I'll probably be watching both channels since I'm learning a lot from them. You have a natural talent for teaching. Your explanations are so easy to understand and your camera work is very clear; it's really a big help when you zoom in. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

    Hi. First a big thank you for the best ever tatting tutorials. I want to ask what are the best ways to jump to the second round, is it only split rings and split chains or what else pls ?? Than you

      You can also use a self closing mock ring and a mock picot to climb out. It is your own preference of which way you choose to use and also which looks the best to you. My personal preference is the split ring and mock picot or split chain and mock picot as those balance things better when using them.

    Hi, can we not do the first half and second half of the split chain in red i. e. one single color and the same for split ring in beige color. Can you give me a link to the video wherein this is done i.e. if you have one. I have a doily pattern which uses split ring and split chain and I want to do it in 2 different colors.
    I must tell you that your videos are too good for learning. Thanks in advance.

    Why did you use a different color for the second half of the chain? I want to use the same color for the first half and the second half. How do you do that?

    • @BeginningTattingVideoSeries
      @BeginningTattingVideoSeries  8 років тому

      +Gemini Dolly Hi and thank you for watching. I used the 2 colors for demonstration so you could see the different threads and the way the split chain works. In order to get the same color just use the same color thread on the second shuttle as you use on the first shuttle. I hope that helps you. Happy Tatting

    All the comments seem to be over a year old, but I'm hoping someone's still around to answer this. Can this split ring be done with continuous ball, instead of two shuttles?

    • @BeginningTattingVideoSeries
      @BeginningTattingVideoSeries  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Gloria, I also do the videos for Georgia Seitz online tatting classes. There is links on the homepage of this channel to direct you to them. When I started those video channels for the classes I let this one just ride. Now to answer your question yes you can use the ball however when doing the stitches and such you can drop the ball easily. A trick is to wrap the ball with a rubber band to give a bit of a grip to the ball of thread. Hope that helps. Happy Tatting

      Beginning Tatting Video Series, thank you for the reply! So I would just use the ball as the shuttle? I can see that getting very clumsy, but if it works, it works. I actually just switched to needle tatting for that one ring. Unwind the shuttle, do one side of the the ring on the point end of the needle with the ball thread. Reverse work and do the other half of the ring with the shuttle thread on the eye end. Thread the needle with the tip end of the shuttle thread, pull it through the whole ring, close the ring, and rewind the shuttle. Rewinding the shuttle is a bit of a bear, but it did the job! Thanks again!

    hello
    if i want to make the chain with the same color and i also want to get to round 2 i am using 2 different colors and i don't want to make the last chain with 2 colors what should i do in this case?
    thank you

    • @BeginningTattingVideoSeries
      @BeginningTattingVideoSeries  6 років тому

      You can do one of 2 things. you can either just switch out the shuttles or do the shoelace trick. I have another channel that I do for Georgia Seitz Online classes. there is alot more information on her channels than this one. Here is the links to the channels. Shuttle class ua-cam.com/users/GeorgiaSeitzOnlineBeginningShuttleTattingClass and here is the link to the advanced class tutorials Advanced class ua-cam.com/users/GeorgiaSeitzOnlineAdvancedClass These are 100 times better videos. The video's are free for public use just like her classes are. I hope this helps you and if you have anymore questions please feel free to ask.

    I'm not seeing it. The front/back side. To me it looks same! Am I being dense?

    • @BeginningTattingVideoSeries
      @BeginningTattingVideoSeries  7 років тому +1

      Hi Lana. The difference between fs/bs tatting and traditional tatting is that traditional tatting the front of the tatting the ds caps face forward on rings and backwards on the front and when you flip the piece over the ring caps are backwards and the chain caps are forward, In FS/BS tatting the caps all face forward on both the rings and the chains. The cap is the thread that lays across the top of the completed double stitch.
