I don't think going Maverick is necessarily catching a virus, but a robot being deprogrammed (or reprogrammed) to override human command and disregard their life.
Reny Bryant The "Sigma Virus" is shown doing exactly that throughout the games. Sigma originally contracted it from Zero in this fight, and then inadvertently spread it around. Zero was Wily's greatest creation, and the virus was part of his final insurance policy if Zero didn't destroy Dr. Light, Mega Man, and/or the world.
It makes more sense if you remember that no matter what hits Sigma in X1, he only receives one point of damage. Lemon bullet? 1 damage. Charge shot? 1 damage. Metal pipe? 1 damage... Zero's bare hands? _Arm falls off._
Then the same fucker blows himself up when trying to defeat Vile, and only manages to fuck up the Ride Armor. So many things can break the ride armor. Everything can. And Zero self-destructs. He could've spat on it.
When after Zero just rips Gamma Unit to shreds & nearly bodies poor Sigma to hell and back. Is no wonder why they ain't telling Iris or Ciel. OH wait, Ciel's gonna be in love.
Well, Sigma was very powerful at this point and the fact he outmatching Zero for a brief moment and slowly losing ground tells how well designed Sigma was; however, nothing( not even X at that point, was a match to Zero) When Sigma became a Maverick, he could destroy Zero in a 1 v 1 and that is a fact. Zero in MMX was not a match to Vile who was designed to be a warmachine. In Maverick hunter X(PSP) despite being technically non cannon, they still expanded upon the fact Zero cant 1 v 1 Vile or he gets destroyed. From X5 onwards, Sigma has been destroyed with team effort.
At 1:22 and 1:40 you can tell Sigma realizes something is wrong and totally off about his opponent but seems to disregard it and remains confident he can win.
SSGSJ3KKx20LimitBreaker Gogito he’s probably saying if the production crew actually gave some effort in voice acting it properly then it prob would’ve been great
They should've just given Megaman X his own cartoon series the way they gave classic Megaman. I mean they did have a spin off episode where they teamed up but it still would've been cool to see X and Zero's story between the games.
"SIR! What...what happened to your arm?" Sigma: "He punched it off." "S...sir? He tore your arm off?!" Sigma: "No. No he did not. He *punched* it off. He ran at me. Drew back his fist. Then, while I was winding up for a major sword strike, he punched off my arm." "H-how is that even possible?" Sigma: "YOU THINK I CARE HOW IT'S POSSIBLE?! HE PUNCHED. MY FREAKING. ARM. OFF. Now I gave him a solid F-you to the head, so he's out cold. You go in there and you INCINERATE that body, are we clear?" "Sir, shouldn't we bring him back to the lab for----" Sigma: "DUDE I DON'T WANT THAT LOONEY TOONS IN MY HOUSE. You nuke that son of a bitch, I don't care WHAT you do! This cut scene forever changed me. I remember as a kid, I was in shock when Sigma’s arm was ripped off. Still one of the fewer brutal cutscenes from my childhood🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
@@xRIGGSx1992 my brothers used to. Also, I’m currently 28. As a kid, I wasn’t as exposed to certain things just like this. Imagine being 8 years old and seeing this scene while in the dark. So yeah

That's why using robots as a medium in video games is a good way to get past the ratings. Violence amongst robots, even human-looking ones, is still considered E for Everyone.
Expert Cypro No, Maverick Virus can be an upgraded result from the mixture of Roboenza + Evil Energy from Mega Man 8 (classic). But they are different viruses.
So Sigma became what Zero was supposed to be. Kinda feel bad for him... Sigma as a hero even used the blade and later, when Zero became a hero, he also used the blade. :/
I’m so surprised I’ve never heard anyone comment on how awesome the remix of zero’s theme is here. Really adds some tension to the scene listening to a far more violent and feral version of his music.
That always bugged me too. And why does it look like it's only 18 inches long when he's first holding it? And why does it look like it gets sliced in two during the fight? Does that mean he punched Sigma's arm off? The video is just all over the place.
I thought that too, but then I remembered that it takes about 10 sword swings to defeat a maverick boss in the games. Sigma broke that metal rod with about two or three swings of his sword. It actually makes decent sense!
man I remember playing Megaman X4 when I was a kid...I have to admit life was great and lately things haven't been...The past was a great gift enjoying now the Future is an unknown thing...
Dug the facial expressions and the brutality of the fight Zero and Sigma have in this clip. This was definitely my favorite scene in the game, due to the fact that it gives the X series a LOT of its backstory, such as before Zero was a good, and Sigma was evil. That Zero was the original carrier of the Maverick Virus before Sigma ended up wreaking havoc on humanity always blew my mind. The X series had so much potential at this point but after X4's greatness, Capcom really copped out =\
my god, If sigma hadn't got lucky with zero's headache, he would literally be dead. And from what I've seen, zero would have made a far more terrifying villain. Before he was rehabilitated, he was pure madness. He would have destroyed everything he saw.
thekaboominator1 Zero was with the Maverick Virus activated in him, that explains why he was acting all violent and villain-like. Also the virus could prevent him to going out of control, as Dr. Wily didn't want to destroy absolutelly everything, but just to be better than Dr. Light... An old rivalry.
X would've fucked Zero, eventually. There is no way DR.Light wouldn't forseee the situation and leave something for X. After all, no matter how strong Zero is with the virus, X was designed to have limitless growth potential and this is in terms of power.
@@Yokai_Yuri actually in megamanX5, they fought each other and both knocked down. It seems like Zero beats X first, but before laying down X used Soul body to make a draw (in X4 only X can use soul body, so it's him who used it in this battle). Then Sigma came, one more time Zero was the first one to wake up and protect the other. --> You can see that Zero is a litle bit more stronger but not enough to destroy X. In the game with Genmurei, Zero is invincible with an absolute power. He just need to release all of it. I have figured it out recently that X's unlimited potential is actually player's potential. Yes, it's ours, that's what the game try to tell us all the time.
The mere fact Zero won the duel with a pipe pretty much shows that his swordsmanship even in an early time like this was insanely powerful. Poor Sigma was kinda a pseudo-protagonist and wanted to save his men and ended up being one of the biggest victims of the mmx series after turning maverick and the main antagonist in the mean time eventually.
I like how they used his design from megaman x for this cinematic rather than carelessly using his x4 design with the bulkier body and the shoulder pads and such.
I like this movie more than the day of sigma, personally. Sure, the pic quality might be a little lower but the action sequence in it is loads better. Also,Zero rocks!
I never understood why, after this cutscene, Sigma's like, "YOU were a maverick?" What do you mean? We JUST saw that you were the one who knocked out Zero and had him repaired and studied. Don't tell me you forgot. Is this just bad translating?
I always figured it was a typo or something. Not only was Sigma there, but the whole reason that cutscene plays is because Sigma was actively reminding Zero of those events.
Zero just ripped apart a team of what are probably elite Maverick hunters and then proceedeed to beat the crap out of their big boss and rip off his arm, only stopped because he had a bit of an aneurysm. What a force of nature.
This cutscene, by far the best of the X series, confused the hell out of me when I first played this game back in '98. Even with the obvious appearance of Wily in the opening cutscene, I didn't think of Zero as an originally evil creation. Hell, I thought the this cutscene had occured during sometime in the MMX4 story; little did I know that it predated the events of even the first X game. Took several years and lots of internet reading to put all the pieces together.
Does anybody realize that zero didn't take sigmas ark apart with the pipe thingy, but tore it off with his bare hands? Imagine what sigma would look like if zero landed all those hits in the beginning
@@Thesuvivor24 this zero not even get upgraded with new z-buster and z-saber. no wonder Dr. Weil in Megaman Zero said Original Zero is god of destruction because he is made like that. remember in X5, X use ultimate armor canonically to fight awaken Zero, and it look almost draw but Zero get up first and block sigma attack on X. bro a menace.
"Commander, are you okay?" "I have one fucking arm, Jackass, what do you think?" For some reason Sigma's voice reminds me of Mrs. Bighead from Rocko's Modern Life.
I've just noticed how they accurately drew Zero into his older model in this scene (i.e round shouders) This kind of blunder is normally common in animes. Also, WTF is up with this comment section full of noobs that don't know shit about the Megaman X timeline??
I appreciated their accuracy in that regard as well. I imagine it helped that his classic design, being slightly less detailed, would be much easier to animate. On the subject of people not knowing shit about the timeline, I haven't noticed _that_ many clueless comments.
The Frost Dragon That doesn't really make sense to me. Zero was dead by the time X fought Sigma, and there's nothing to indicate that X salvaged Sigma's sword before his fortress exploded. Besides that, there's also the major size difference between the swords. I always figured the Z-Saber came with Zero's new body in X2, since they first appeared together. The new body came with upgrades (and booblights), so it makes sense that the sword would be one of those upgrades.
I really did love that subtle little detail. I just thought it was cool how Zero had his original MMX1 design. Also, if you look at his legs, you'll also see that he has just solid red and white boots, just like in MMX1.
Was really hard to believe that Sigma was originally a good guy. Usually good guys are not smiling with determination while fighting the bad guys. And also the bad guys just start to be more powerful than the good guys.
The dude probably had ego problems even before getting infected--notice he could have changed his fate if he had just used his beam saber from the start.
Zero fan, but after watching this back after 10 or so years, I was rooting for Sigma. The commander who went in one on one with Zero so that his men will not be sacrificed, ultimately sacrificing not only himself and his legacy.
At first it looks like sigma is enjoying that fight, then he realizes that zero is enjoying the fight way too much and even one of the strongest characters in the series is creeped out.
at first sigma is stronger because of his advance circuits and systems but as time goes on zero gets more and more relentless and stronger(maverick virus is leaking out of his capsule which is giving him strength and healing his wounds) and when the clash happens sigma loses his arm. after that zero toys with him until I think wily's failsafe goes into effect and stops him from going too berserk which gives sigma enough time to crack his skull but in doing so sigma is already infected with the virus but it takes longer due to his more advance systems
To think THIS is how Zero started! An evil Maverick created by Dr. Wily and as it turned out he had a virus inside him that somehow got into Sigma during this fight and that's how HE became the evil one then and I suppose after Zero was repaired he was then reprogramed into the good guy Maverick Hunter we know.
The biggest mistake Capcom ever did, was never make a full season of a Megaman X anime, considering how many mangas there are and games, there would have been so much to take from.
And now, a story-- The Wily Wars had taken their toll. By late 20XX only the original Masters remained and an aging Dr. Thomas Light was finally realizing the dream of his research, the elusive 'X factor' in robot autonomy of will. By this time, the entire first run of Light robots Masters had retired - they had fulfilled their great purpose, brought about a stability in each of their respective fields; Elec Master (they had de-gendered their titles as some had altered their forms over the years) revolutionized solar power containment grids, Guts Master made huge strides in construction so buildings were much stronger than ever before, Cut Master ensured sustainable forest/lumber management so future generations would have both wood and “the woods” and so forth -- The new line of large maintenance robots, the prototype line of mechanaloids, were handling the up-keep and processing of the advancements put in place by the L1 Robot Master line. Meanwhile, Wily's masters, having been defeated by Mega Man time and again -- space guardians and Roboenza not withstanding -- in fact the final line was destroyed by Protoman/Breakman ... but Rock and Roll would never see Blues again. This is when the Evil Doctor Wily created his Zero option, - with his newest discovery; nevermind Bassnium, Wily had created a sentient, self replicating, base-code Virus. The Wily Virus. It would be his master stroke against his, now hated, rival Dr. Light and his front-line enforcer Mega Man. With Wily's own powerful agent as a “patient Zero” of sorts... the Wily Virus would grant his genius immortality by taking control of every last Light produced robot and bending them to his will. However, at Light Labs, the good Dr. Thomas Light had just finished a semi-sentient holographic back-up of himself and was loading several recordings into it intended for later play-back upon activation. Several dozen of these Light capsules had been produced. They all held a share of advanced component materials, including his new 'Titanium-X' alloy, and data of experimental blue-prints. Seemingly the capsules would create the items over time refining to set specifications until deployment. At least that's what Auto figured they were for when Dr. Light explained they were to be loaded aboard the shuttle. Wily's plan was an all-or-nothing final assault - he would sacrifice himself to make it happen. His body anyway. Maintaining control over the creation of something as complex as the Wily Virus required everything he had - but if it worked, Thomas would be defeated forever… the Wily Wars had taken their toll… even on Albert Wily. At this point he hated Thomas and everything that wasn't built by his own twisted genius. This would be it, the end. Albert put his own ego and personality into the code for the virus, transposing them digitally from his own brain synapses. It was the final step. Once 'Patient Zero' was ready - (( He had planned to use Bass' old chassis... (the fate of Bass is a story unto itself, suffice to say he ended his own data-existence, in space, rather than take another order from Wily)... it was technically even stronger, but tests showed that it slowed 'patient Zero' down too much, Light's Titanium-X alloy proved superior in nearly every way, and Wily had stolen enough of it. Rather than a final insult Wily was bemused by the idea that Thomas' newest invention would form the hands that would end him. )) -- Wily recorded his final orders to be played upon activation and closed the capsule. He then set to work uploading the Wily Virus, ending his own physical existence, but gaining a strange immortality as his will for domination became a digital plague. Now we catch up to things we know - Thomas Light didn't survive to see X activated, leaving final notes and warnings programmed about his testing period of no less than 30 years. The X-Buster is, in fact, the Mega Buster Mk 17. Given how many times Mega Man had his upgraded we can assume this is a far flung hyper-advanced prototype given to X. All the same, Thomas Light yearned for a peaceful world with people and robots coexisting, so X is not heavily weaponized from the get-go, he's designed to be upgraded by new technology, some of which Thomas hadn't even built yet. (amazing) Though Wily's work on Zero was similar enough that eventually their tech proves compatible. ((X can upgrade by equipping Zero's 3-stage Blaster Arm.)) Zero attacks the Light Lab. The Robot Masters join the fight and lend their powers to Mega Man so he can go toe-to-toe with this 'new' red foe. The Masters, now nearly obsolete and very out of practice, are no match for the firepower and skill of this tall, quick, and strong newcomer. They fall, and as they do Zero learns something from each of their struggles against him… despite also being almost gleefully insane - the concentrated Wily Virus is doing a number on his programming… he can't copy their powers, but he internalizes their skills, influencing his own abilities, their training was now his. Mega Man was in over his head, but Rush was at his side, an e-tank ready to share and an advanced armor mode ready to activate. Auto loaded the last of the Light Capsules onto the rocket and, as Dr. Light bid him goodbye, he launched into orbit, just as the labs burst into flames below him… Mega Man had learned to combine powers when he held multiple at once. Blazing metal scissors, exploding 'Guts Punches,' Electric Ice . . . and Zero just kept coming... any helper bots or defense systems seemed to seize up when they targeted him and then go haywire, the Wily Virus sending them wild for a moment, self destructing or turning on the Lab and Mega Man. Not wanting to endanger Rush, Mega Man turned off their armor fuse state, but his loyal dog remained to the bitter end. The lab a ruin around them Rush took a blast meant for Mega Man, and when Roll pushed her way out of the wreckage - damaged, furious and terrifying to behold; Mega Man took the shot meant for her . . . The battle went on, Rock and Roll trading feints and blasts and blows with Zero always coming on... Eventually the fight reached Dr. Light -- blocking the secret entrance to 'X''s chamber. . . Injured, but always valiant, Rock and Roll went out together saving Dr. Light from a finishing blow; Protecting their father and self detonating in their attacker's face. Zero, now driven to frustration from the concentrated virus and severely damaged by the twins' joint sacrifice, determined Light's injuries were fatal and so might be his own. So he retreated to his repair capsule back at Wily's hidden lair. Light lived long enough to say his farewells to X, his last child and final testament of his brilliance and caring spirit, before sealing him away. Mega City built Dr. Light's memorial in front of City Hall and let the wind and grass cover the place of his tragic final moments. Auto released the capsules into decaying orbits in sets of 4 and 8 as instructed. He spent a lot of time in space, and upon his return to Earth helped revolutionize the fields of Space Colonization and orbital platforming (X5). Wily's revenge was incomplete. The Virus had to be spread, almost by touch, he had concentrated it so heavily into his Zero option. And with his 'delivery system' retreated back to its stasis capsule, well, there was no way to spread it any further - - for now.
Took me all this time to realise why X didn't have as many cutscenes in this game. X4 was to close the gap between the beginning and end of the X series hence why it showed zero was the original maverick and was the start of Sigma's rebellion.
And this is the moment you either thought wily was an evil genius badass who caused all of this or you absolutely hates him for putting all these characters through endless suffering…..or both
Its crazy to say this considering everything he's done... but watching this reminds me that, at the end of the day, Sigma himself is an innocent, good-hearted man. It truly is just the virus thats really evil
He was, but it's clear that the "current" Sigma is still self-aware and the maverick virus didn't turn him into a feral animal like Volt Kraken from X5. I think he could have been saved, but the Mother Elf destroyed him for good.
For those asking when this was. This is a cut scene in Mega man X4 when sigma gets to the final stage against sigma. Sigma reminds zero that it was once zero who was a maverick and sigma was a maverick hunter. This scene takes place before Mega Man X
Since X8 documents the New Generation Reploids as being a new threat to humanity and that Sigma was a pawn of Lunine from the very beginning, I always hoped (and still hope) that Sigma could come back as a good guy for X9. He seems like a pretty cool Maverick Hunter in this cutscene.

Yep. The moment Sigma broke that gem on Zero's helmet, he was infected. Then he started spreading it like herpes.
"like herpes" LMAO
We can sum up that the entire MegaMan X franchise exists because of Dr. Wily...
Kinda puts a damper on Sigmas final boss status when you see Zero solo him with a pipe.
+OmeQuicksilver That is before he got a huge upgrade through out the series after he was infected by the Maverick Virus
It makes more sense if you remember that no matter what hits Sigma in X1, he only receives one point of damage.
Lemon bullet? 1 damage.
Charge shot? 1 damage.
Metal pipe? 1 damage...
Zero's bare hands? _Arm falls off._
Haggar: Respect the pipe!
Then the same fucker blows himself up when trying to defeat Vile, and only manages to fuck up the Ride Armor. So many things can break the ride armor. Everything can. And Zero self-destructs. He could've spat on it.

Leave it to Zero to wipe out an entire unit and nearly kill off Sigma early.

"SIR! What...what happened to your arm?"
Sigma: "He punched it off."
"S...sir? He tore your arm off?!"
Sigma: "No. No he did not. He *punched* it off. He ran at me. Drew back his fist. Then, while I was winding up for a major sword strike, he punched off my arm."
"H-how is that even possible?"
Sigma: "YOU THINK I CARE HOW IT'S POSSIBLE?! HE PUNCHED. MY FREAKING. ARM. OFF. Now I gave him a solid F-you to the head, so he's out cold. You go in there and you INCINERATE that body, are we clear?"
"Sir, shouldn't we bring him back to the lab for----"

I’m so surprised I’ve never heard anyone comment on how awesome the remix of zero’s theme is here. Really adds some tension to the scene listening to a far more violent and feral version of his music.
that moment when they are usually made mostly of metals yet when sigma walks it makes a squeaky sounds 😂😂😂
Thats a problem with all animes, in dbz is the same with organic and machine
so his sword could cut through reploids but not a metal rod.
That always bugged me too. And why does it look like it's only 18 inches long when he's first holding it? And why does it look like it gets sliced in two during the fight? Does that mean he punched Sigma's arm off? The video is just all over the place.
+cptnoremac pipes are OP in Capcom games
+Destroyahweapon True, remember Haggar's pipe? Shit was OP af
I thought that too, but then I remembered that it takes about 10 sword swings to defeat a maverick boss in the games. Sigma broke that metal rod with about two or three swings of his sword. It actually makes decent sense!
It took more than 3 slices probably took 5 given the light effect seen
man I remember playing Megaman X4 when I was a kid...I have to admit life was great and lately things haven't been...The past was a great gift enjoying now the Future is an unknown thing...
Well at least the future will bring Zero and ZX series remastered to us.
The X series had so much potential at this point but after X4's greatness, Capcom really copped out =\
Still waiting on an X9 & legends 3 😭
my god, If sigma hadn't got lucky with zero's headache, he would literally be dead. And from what I've seen, zero would have made a far more terrifying villain. Before he was rehabilitated, he was pure madness. He would have destroyed everything he saw.
+thekaboominator1 Give him the Z-saber and *BOOM*
thekaboominator1 Zero was with the Maverick Virus activated in him, that explains why he was acting all violent and villain-like.
Also the virus could prevent him to going out of control, as Dr. Wily didn't want to destroy absolutelly everything, but just to be better than Dr. Light... An old rivalry.
Poor Sigma, doomed himself with that punch.

Boy, is Zero awesome. I'm new to MegaMan, but Zero is already my favorite character.
I've just noticed how they accurately drew Zero into his older model in this scene (i.e round shouders)
This kind of blunder is normally common in animes.
The Frost Dragon
That doesn't really make sense to me.

Sigma grabs his beam saber.
Zero grabs a pipe.
Zero fan, but after watching this back after 10 or so years, I was rooting for Sigma. The commander who went in one on one with Zero so that his men will not be sacrificed, ultimately sacrificing not only himself and his legacy.
Words cannot express how much I love maverick'd-up Zero putting Smugma in his place.
That moment when one of your side characters has a better voice than both the main pro and antagonists.
Ooh! Just nailed him! Right at the center of his helmet! 2:56

Also, very amusing when the "W" shows up in Zero's head crystal.
Dr. Wily's programming is all "YOU KILL MEGAMAN!! LITERALLY NOTHING ELSE!!!"
And now, a story--
The Wily Wars had taken their toll.
((X can upgrade by equipping Zero's 3-stage Blaster Arm.))
Zero attacks the Light Lab.
Light bid him goodbye, he launched into orbit, just as the labs burst into flames below him…
Mega Man had learned to combine powers when he held multiple at once.
Ladies and gentlemen, we just witnessed Zero having a Maverick moment.

He was, but it's clear that the "current" Sigma is still self-aware and the maverick virus didn't turn him into a feral animal like Volt Kraken from X5. I think he could have been saved, but the Mother Elf destroyed him for good.

Compilation of saber users in Mega Man: Sigma, Zero, X in base form, X in Third Armor, X in Ultimate Armor, X in Falcon Armor, X in Blade Armor, X in Phantom Armor, Agile, Dynamo, Megaman.EXE/Hub Hikari (requires sword-based Battle Chips), Protoman.exe (it's literally part of him; also has access to the aforementioned Battle Chips), the dark forms of the above two, Sage Harpuia, Model Z, Model ZX, Model H, Model HX, and any NetNavis or EM Wave humans with access to sword Battle Chips. If Sigma had a biometal, he'd be in this list, too. This list is incomplete; if you know how to make a Mega Man fangame, you can expand this list with new characters and special weapons.
That thumbnail is the first time Sigma said "OH GOD WHY"
