      This is why the white settlers to India when it was a united people, they taught the Indian men how to treat their women and the mother in-laws to do all the work and let their sons do no work, even though men are stronger than most women. As a result, these mother-in-law's usually work themselves into the ground before their time. The mother-in-law.also taught the wives to do the same. This behaviour serves no purpose except leaving orphan children and all men which also makes no sense as mem alone cannot procuate. They even took the matter to another level by kill first born baby girls, but God is watching.

    The first time I saw a documentary about these people, I was a little shocked by their striking appearances. But they do look beautiful. So beautiful. They become living high art when they put on their makeup and outfits! I love to look at them when they are decorated for their celebrations. They have such long willowy features. And their conversations in the documentary fascinate me. You can see that they think about the same things everyone else all over the world think about.

    I grew up loving Herzog anyway, but I saw a clip of this documentary at the Brooklyn Museum ~15 years ago and just sat there watching the video refresh. After the Herzog part there was a clip of the "courtship festival" filmed about 10 years later (so 1989-1999...wish I could remember/source it) and it was so interesting how attitudes had changed in such a short period- everyone participating, men and women, were kinda like, "yes, we know this is seriously old-fashioned, but we have to do it because tradition."

Bloody ridiculous music yo have on a documentary about a tribe that still live as they have since animals humans walked on two legs. Music is made by humans to fit a purpose if entertainment or ritual they have their own music should of used the Fulani rhythm not classical religious music

  • @papakilatube
    @papakilatube 11 років тому +71

    It is worth noting that this is precisely the kind of culture jihadists in North Africa want to stamp out. In particular, the power of women in the culture and the concern for aesthetics are deemed "haram" and offensive to their version of Islam. Their "jihad" is aimed at ridding the world of cultures and cultural practices such as are seen in this film. What 400 years of the slave trade and European colonization was unable to do, the jihadists are attempting to do in one generation. They are well-armed and well-funded, through their own criminal activities and donations from the Gulf states, where elites see the destruction of traditional cultures in Africa as their historical mission.

    • @VampireCheese
      @VampireCheese 10 років тому +12

      Agreed...fundamentalism is the curse of our modern world. Indiginous people everywhere are being targeted as they are the easiest target..it seems in so many ways we are entering a new dark ages. :(

Thanks papakilatube! Thanks Wodaabe, Fulani! Thanks Indigenous People everywhere! Come on indigenous soul within everyone! We are all born on the Planet, so we are all indigenous here, but we humans need to realise that staggering simple fact and act accordingly-stop space dreams and get back to true Earth Reality before it's too late! Have a great day folks!
      "Because modern man is a mutation, who's Dreaming has become a nightmare, which 'threatens' to destroy the Earth! Because we've turned ourselves from Wolves to Dog's, warped into a Billion twisted shapes and forms…" Extract AWS Song; 'Because Modern Man Is A Mutation', search UA-cam to hear it all if you want!

      @bnnawwal Who said it was bad? Men will be punished for lying on God and doing the enemy's work. God said what is right and what is wrong causes problems and interferes with His plans. One plan is most people have freedom of choice. You don't support their wrongdoing but very little wrong is commanded to send them to Him. Men are too lazy and shameful to admit they worship their own bloodlust and nationality like little filthy pests instead of hiding behind a God they stab in the back constantly. God isn't the problem it's mankind's willful corruption.

    Nothing removes me from the atmosphere and identity of these people more than hearing the sentimental European music of the first half of the 20th century played over their rituals and behavior, it's jarring and annoying. I've always enjoyed Herzog's work but what the hell, it's not just anachronistic, it clashes and feels tacky and distorts everything the actual people are doing in favor of something Herzog is reminded of or something.

    • @VampireCheese
      @VampireCheese 10 років тому +7

      I really do understand you. I felt the music...sentimental from a lost time did fit in a strange way. These people have lost so much, much of their story is now gone forever, like the music... merely played out in small camps where lucky ones have managed to keep their cattle alive. I liked it !! Take care.. x

    "I have chosen you with my heart" -beautiful moment. Can't quite put my finger on it but this was a beautiful film for me about courtship. This seems like almost a symbol for all human attraction. The female raelly does pick the male. This tribe just lets it happen in the most natural way I've seen. The men aren't all butthurt about it, they doll themselves up and the women make the choice...pretty straightforward....none of this male ego mucking things up.

    While taking notes for my paper, I wrote down "My God these woman are beautiful" three times and didn't notice until reviewing. Honestly, the women and the men are both naturally very attractive. This is solely based on their basic physical features. By that I mean, one could take them and place them in any other culture's style of dress, and they'd be equally attractive.

      If you've met any Africans, I am sure you will come to see that they are like people from anywhere else. They care about family, respect elders, are usually kind to strangers, they work hard, trade, quarrel sometimes, just like human beings everywhere. Some live very simply or in poverty, others have a lot of wealth and live accordingly. Don't forget that Africa is a huge continent with many, many different ethnicities, cultures and languages. What you find in one place will be very different from another.

    Wonderful People! Wonderful way of life! Wonderful Land! There is so much beauty in this film; so much! We hope that the National Governments of Chad, Niger and Nigeria, and all others respect Indigenous Peoples, their Lives, Ways, Lives and Religion/Spiritual beliefs. We also Hope all people do that, and that All people come to reindigenise their/our own lives, as at the end of the day, we are all born out of Nature, all born on Mother Earth and we all need to Live With the Earth in a good way! Forget space travel an space stations! Take care of the Earth!
    A very beautiful people, a very wonderful culture and very, very special way of life and many thanks for a most enchantingly beautiful and wonderful film! Many thanks and well done! Long live the Wodaabe, Fulani and ALL Indigenous Peoples! Long Live Their Lands and Cultures…and May ALL Humans realise that; "We Belong to the Earth; The Earth Does Not Belong To Us!" ( Chief Seattle.)
    One viewer commented;"but having a culture does not mean that it is right. some cultures are bad like this one." Wow! This is the hight of Ignorance, blind ignorance-no doubt religious fundamentalism! It is incredible how with no further education people are so often just willing to accept what is written in a old text or what a so called religious teacher ( or any teacher, scientist, person for that matter) tells them without thinking for themselves, without study, without searching for the truth, not just opinion or dogma. It is incredible to me that someone can be so ignorant they can just write off a culture and people like that!
    I'd like to invite anyone wishing to sing along with me in this vein, come sing with me a song; 'Because Modern Man Is A Mutation' either voice forest rap or with Berimbau, musical bow, on UA-cam. Just type the title, 'Because Modern Man is A Mutation' in the UA-cam search bar or look for it on songs shelf on my channel. Thanks and have a great day folks! The music choice was odd, certainly not my taste, but I don't think the director meant any harm by it. Quite the contrary, I think by using sacred music he was trying to emphasise the beauty of these people at a time when the other peoples around them living alongside them treated them terribly. Including their government. So, although artistically jarring, I don't think a bad intention was meant.

      +ProudToBe AnAmerican You don't think we have organizations to stop black on black crime? Black Lives Matter is made specifically to stop police brutality against black people. And we have other organizations and movements to specifically stop black on black crimes too. The only reason black lives matter got so much attention is because we reminded people that we are human too, and that pissed white people off so they decided to angry about it.

    • @CulturedWhiteBoy
      @CulturedWhiteBoy 8 років тому +1

      Froofroo Dabouifoubebe Black Lives Matter is a racist terrorist group. Could there be a White Lives Matter? Of course not! It would be racist. If a white person wore a shirt saying "White Power", it would be racist, but a black can wear a "Black Power" shirt? Bullshit double standard. I never owned a slave. I've hung out with all races all of my life. I'm 2nd generation. My biological ancestors are from Greece and Italy. I had nothing to do with any slave trade, nor did my family, so why do I have to pay for it, just because my skin is white? Why does every person with white skin who comes from any country on the planet have to be blamed for slavery? My adoptive family, most were killed in the Holocaust. My family were slaves too! My family was tortured and murdered too. So, why can't I be proud to be white? End of discussion on that. I know life in the hood. I've seen it and I lived it. Don't try and tell me that there's a real movement to stop black on black violence when people ignore it every time it happens. Kids are raised not to "snitch". Where I'm from is where that female jogger got raped and killed 2 weeks ago. That shit doesn't fly there. If people knew who did it, the first thing they would do is call the cops unless the mob got a hold of that person and made him disappear. In order to keep a neighborhood safe, people have to take it in their hands to get the bad out. When someone gets shot and killed and it happens every day in the hood, you're gonna tell me that the people in the hood help the cops find the person who did it? Hell no! Unless it's your family, it's none of your business. 2 days ago, some dude got killed (example here, not saying you personally) on your street. You saw who did it, butt you ain't snitchin', so your story was that you were sleeping or had your headphones on whiling playing Nintendo. Next week, your brother gets shot and killed and there you are on tv pleading with the public to come forward. Why would anyone do that for you when you didn't do it for them 2 days ago? The hood will never get better if the people living there don't come together to make it better. The whole thing about cops shooting blacks is a lot more complex than random cops shooting random blacks. I'm not gonna get into that. When the 2 sides can come together, cops not beating up dudes like what has happened to me for drinking a beer in the park and the people not screaming out "Fuck the police!" or "Pigs must die!" when the cops ride down your street. If you treat them like shit, how do you expect them to treat you and vice-versa?

    I still can't figure out why "Castrati" recordings (possibly of Moreschi) are being used-other than ignorantly in the wrong text because the men are wearing makeup and castrati used to sing (women's ) soprano parts in the days when women were prohibited from singing in the Catholic church, then sang women roles in opera because of the heft, strength and richness of their voice. They're not even good recordings, made when the last of the castrati were old and past their prime . SMH

    • @samidellaidella532

      Domingo Partida That's sort of what I find odd. The aesthetic ( and stereotype) that women wear make up and spend hours trying to beautify themselves, combined with a castrati recording that was made when castrati were old, retired and not at their prime. They are playing upon the assumption that male sopranos are less than "real men", and the undeniable sissy connotation that men wearing make up to attract a mate are also lesser men by Western standards. That to me is the only connection to the two that I can plausibly come up with. If they were trying to go with a shocking "vaporizing" aesthetic, surely their were a variety of songs, classic and contemporary that could have been used other than religious songs sung by castrati. Maybe they thought most people were unaware of Moreschi and the few remaining singers of that medium and their recordings? I don't know, it is still weird to me LOL! P.S. Maybe Venite inginocchiatevi from Le Nozze di Figaro would have been a better song. It is about dressing the boy page Cherubino as a woman so he can attend Susana and Figaro's wedding without making Count Almaviva angry. It's so absurd that it would fit right in. If you're not a fan of Mozart, this probably makes no sense to you jaja. ;-)

    • @domingopartida5812

      +Samidella idella I mean, not actually Vaporware I guess. I was saying it how its said now for something that makes no sense but only within the context of itself instead of saying "wierd" or the recent "random".
      Maybe the music is suppose to make you think of " culture", or just a general use of "culture", in this case classical music, the actual piece not being relevant, or just an antiquated format of presentation, like Chopin's treatment of folk tunes, compared to Bartok.

      +HEBREWSRIZE : Correct the Fulani's, Nubians, Put and Ethiopians are the sons of ham which you can read about in Genesis 10:19)..***God created them from clay of the ground, they have different shades of the soil.
      """The physical looks of the biblical Israelites:
      Lamentations 4 verse 8:)"Their visage is blacker than a coal." Visage here explain their facial features...broad Nose, juicy big lips and wool hair in darkness.
      (Lamentations 5 verse 10:)"Our skin was black like an oven"
      (Job 30 verse 30)"My skin is black upon me.
      (Jeremiah 14 verse 2)"Judah mourned, they are black unto the ground;
      (Song of Solomon 1 verse 5, 6)"I am black, but comely, Look not upon me because I am black.
      (Genesis 10:31)These were the descendants of Shem, identified by clan, language, territory, and national identity...their language is Aramaic in different dialect.
      **The West African Bantu people, Nigeria, Uganda, a tribe in Kenya, Nigerians, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Camerooon, Gabon, Angola, Congo,Namibia, Central Africa, Mozambigue, Malawi, and South Africa…and the children of slavery taken from Africa to the Americas for slavery!
      Aram was a descendant of Shem (Genesis 10:22). The name of Aram became identified with the region known later as Syria. When Abraham went South to Canaan the relatives that he left behind continued to speak Aramaic.
      This is the example of the use of Aramaic language:
      This is what Christ said, before He died on a tree.
      ( Matthew 27:46)***Eli...Eli...Elamasabatha, that is Nguni Aramaic=Xhosa language of the South African people...means; This...this...for the Sabbath keepers"
      The bible was written by black people in Paleo Aramaici and the second testament was written in Nguni Aramaic not Hrbrew...There is nothing like Hebrew language, it is a copy of Aramaic mixed with Arabic and Greek.
      The same way there is nothing like the Middle East=Arabia land...which was at first, the land of the Israelites...but they were then robbed their land and riches and kept captives by the same people living in those areas or regions today!
      *This is what Christ said to them:
      (Joel 3:2)*I will gather all the nations And bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat. Then I will enter into judgment with them there On behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel, Whom they have scattered among the nations; And they have divided up My land.
      You have to bear in mind that after the Israelites were chased out of their land which we can read about in Exodus...the movement of God´s people in the book of Ezra below:then the Ethiopians occupied north Africa as the family of the Ham,with indians as Egyptians.
      Amos 9:7)"Are you Israel to me not like the Ethiopians to me? Thus say the Lords of host…* Ethiopians are black just like Africans but they have other features because they are born of Arabs which are ancient Indians. Some are born from Solomon and Moses as we know that they loved strange women, those looks like Africans in their features.
      The Israelites have mixed themselves with various nations and became a rainbow nations of colours...I am not talking about Europeans...but people with melanin in their skin no matter the light of their skins.

      I hate to say this: but the truth is our only weapon. We cannot connect to the creator if we do not find the truth...and then we will worship in vain...false gods and the great tribulation will swallow us by surprise!

      +muslimahsista This is a work of art from one of the greatest filmmakers of our time! Werner Herzog!!! Opera music is the expression of grand emotions, ideas and beauty. An artist does not look at the world through narrow compartmentalized visions of ordinary people. Expressions of mystic beauty and sublime style no matter the time, the people, the culture. Contrasts make things interesting...
