They could nerf the regular top speed to be below average speed while when you wheelie it becomes above average, it'll balance it out and not make it as broken as it was in mkwii. For tracks with more straight ways bikes will become the better option while karts would be for tracks with more turns

I feel like wheelie would be balanced if it slowed you down but it charged a mini turbo in a straight line. This would be balanced to where charging would be slower than just driving in a straight line but it’d be useful for getting past off-road sections.

man people really don’t give sport bikes a chance in 8, it’s different from how they worked in wii but it doesn’t mean they’re terrible, once you get the hang of it they can actually compete all you really need is good handling and you’re set (drift was merged into handling in 7 and 8 (i never understood why it was a separate stat))

The speed buff I feel wasn't the only reason wheelies were removed. Because anyone aware of the major skips in MKWii is aware the wheelie actually moves the bike's hitbox. So you can ram into an sharply angled slope with a mushroom and jump over a lot of the track, even skipping all of the track in one level.

Inside drift allowed you to be more reactionary. you could use it to dodge items and correct your path quickly. Made the game feel faster and feel like you had more agency. In a game with such high rng elements there's a big struggle to make your players feel like they have agency so I think removing it was a big mistake.

The Mario cart wii was and still is my favorite version. I have played the wii u and switch versions of Mario cart, but I find that the wii version is more fun and overall better

The removal of inside drift is pretty much why I hate MK8 so much. I can understand wheelie removal, but the inside drift just ruined it for me when removed. 90% of the kart combinations just can't take turns unless you start 100 ft ahead of time.

Okay so that's why I've fucked up using the bike against my friends in Mario kart 8, the mechanics are just vastly different than Wii. I thought I was losing my gaming skills, becoming a relic of a bygone era.
I always played MK on the DS as a kid, especially on hollydays, since it was basically the only game you could play with more than 4 people. That in mind, I always thought the Wii steering (with inside drifting bikes, that were basically needed to win) was kinda weird and 4 players are just not enough.. And MK8D is the first MK that fixed both these problems, so everyone upgraded from NDS to Switch and the hollyday sessions are better than ever before.. Yes we are grown up adults now :)
Nah Nintendo doesn’t allow for that level for fun ever again it’s now generic simple driving nothing to technical and kinda boring and plus the online is fucking horrid in 8d I can’t believe the sold that shit it’s fucking unplayable at a high level it’s meant for casuals idk why people take that shit game seriously. This is why we gotta have funky Kong added in the MK8D DLC. We gotta have that MK Wii Meta representation 👌 Also, even though inside drifting bikes were nerfed, I still main the Yoshi bike + slim tires. It may feel different to drive than the flame runner, but, it still helps me smoke the competition (plus it’s got AMAZING drift boost and invincibility)

honestly, I'm glad for that. If you didn't like using Bikes or were a kart only user, you kind of had a hard time dealing with all the Funky Kong Flame Runners or Daisy Dolphin Dashers who would overrun the lobbies. Bikes having Wheelies was an unfair advantage for those who were kart users.

The Flame Runner was the best vehicle in MKWii. But the most underrated reason is because of its weight stat. Weight matters significantly in MKWII.
