    Sorry for the awful camera work while Modest Media was talking at the end. I'd NEVER held that camera before and I was nervous as fuck. Rod threatened to kill my cat if I dropped it.

      IMO best hiphop album ever made.. I was headed down that road an the truths really touch home so for me it was personal I remember being in the jeep an hearing can I live on a clue tape .. Ran straight to the mall an coped this an couldn't believe it.. Lyrically amazing.. Sonically amazing.. An like I said..Truths.. Regrets ..Lucky me (dif album same feel) Anything (dif album).. Allure .. Fallen .. Must've love me.. Personal touches.. Hov is the Goat.. An the cat that didn't like " female choruses " I know it's a personal opinion but his hiphop knowledge an feel is very limited.. This is my Culture .. I'm 40 grew up with it all., Salute to y'all tho

    A lot of people saying that Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint, and The Black Album are all the albums you really need to listen to from Jay Z. I can't help but throw American Gangster in that mix, I really enjoy that album and I feel that it's very cohesive too. I think Jay Z put a lot of effort into that particular record too. Just my two cents.

      +Eron Constante I agree. Highly underrated album and probably his 2nd best album lyrically speaking behind Reasonable Doubt. Blueprint is my overall fav though just cos' of Kanye and Blaze's production and the way it meshes with Jay's Rhymes.

      Lloyd Currie man you’ve got to LISTEN to jay z & dig deep into the lyrics... honestly man he’s a rappers rapper. Knows how to pack every single bar so dense and effortlessly... he has that one bar on heart of the city saying “what you eat don’t make me shit”.... when you actually analyze that bar, it’s fucking genius!!!! Especially ending that amazing 3rd verse he had

    • @OutofTheLyingsDen

      Really???? I always considered the slim shady LP as his best work but hey there both classics IMO

    • @Datpiff_Admin
      @Datpiff_Admin 10 років тому +4

      It's easily his best but to me the Slim Shady EP is track for track his best album, even if only for the reason that it's so damn short. Save the repeat tracks or radio cuts, there's absolutely no track on that EP that does't represent the absolute essence of classic Eminem. If you took out Cum on everybody and My fault and simply inserted Murder Murder and No One's Iller, the Slim Shady LP would be his undisputed masterpiece. Can't for the life of me even begin to think of what the execs thought when they cut those two tracks

    • @zaKkyBoY121

      Ask anyone mmlp was a progression from slim shady lp. 1.7 million copies in the first week

    • @Datpiff_Admin
      @Datpiff_Admin 10 років тому +4

      Zecariah Aden Ya no doubt, everything about that album feels technically better. But there's a certain element to it that i feel was lost with the progression, something was just more playful or less industry impacted on his debut LP, like his follow up needed to more voracious. I'm just saying, if those couple of songs had made the cut onto the album, that would've been an absolutely indisputable masterpiece

    The coolest insight I've seen about this album, is from Jay himself. He was saying how people think this album is him glorifying the hustle game and "you can't knock the hustle" meaning how we make our money. But, it was actually the reverse. He was depicting the excesses and foolishness of the hustle. And "can't knock the hustle" and other joints was actually aimed at the people knocking him in the street for jumping into the music. Made me go back and listen to it in reverse. He embodied it best, to me, on 22 Twos... "You never ready. Forever Petty minds stay petty. Mine is thinking longevity, until I'm 70, livin' heavenly... Fuck felony after felony." I never listened to that line in that way, until I heard him express that misconception....Then I appreciated D'Evils, Regrets, Can I Live and other joints eeven more than I already did.

    I liked the female hooks 😂 I agree the flow, the wordplay and the verses were phenomenal. Great storytelling too. Lyrically superior to Blueprint imo.

    RD had impact to the dopeboys and aspiring dopeboys out on the corners of the trap neighborhoods. It was the soundtrack to our lives. It was like he was telling you his take on his environment and expressing the mentalities in and around him, but as the perspective of a leader. It just hit home for those on their 25th hour of pitching rocks on the block.

    I'd put Reasonable Doubt on par with Illmatic but maybe that's just me. They both where story driven albums the only difference to me is their difference in flow and lyrics. Nas' flow is slower and his bars are easily understood and dope like not a lot of hidden meanings but dope enough to stand out without anything extra. While Jay-z's flow fluctuates a lot from a medium pace to fast pace and back. And his lyrics are dope in a different way, they are more witty and he has double entadres and things you have to think about to understand. Bottom line, in my opinion those are my 2 favorite albums of all time. Also I'm almost 100% with everything Mike said on this one. And I agree Jay was on par with biggie on Brooklyn's finest and their flow was great together, I really wish they got to make an album together.

      I agree with u on that. It's the same reason why people like Kendrick Lamar's GKMC over Section.80 with how on Illmatic Nas seems to be observing and telling us what he sees versus Jay actually being bout that life and taking action. Illmatic is still a great album though.

      Donovan Taggart that's a nice way to put it. Yah section 80 was more from outside looking in and Kendrick talking through his whole era and peers while GKMC was much more personal and introspective

    I'm only 20 so forgive me. I heard Reasonable Doubt for the first time about 4 years ago...I was blown completely away. I always liked Jay Z growing up in Brooklyn but his lyricism on this album was crazy. My personal favorites are Politics as Usual, Brooklyn's Finest, and Cashmere Thoughts. And I agree with Ken on the production aspect of RD. I think that gets overlooked a little. The samples that were used for this album were really well put together. The album almost feels like a good gangster movie concept.

    So one of the reviewers said "Illmatic didn't have that kind of impact when it dropped"??? WHAT?? Either you didn't know much about hiphop at that time, or you're just ignorant to do your research. It had INSTANT impact as it dropped, although not succesfully as it only did 60,000 in its first week. But the whole hiphop world woke up when that album dropped. It sparked everyone up, got the first 5 mics from The Source Magazine, etc.

    I always am exited and enjoy my when you guys review a classic album, I'm younger so obviously this album wasn't my introduction to jay z but when I heard this I immediately regretted not listening to it. Jay z flow is increadible and unique production was defenitely great and fit so well with jay z rapping. my favorite song was can't knock the hustle, and as far as biggie vs jay z on that track while I liked biggies verse more jay z wasn't that far from being as good. I'm really glad modest media was in this review it's always interesting to hear his opinion especially on a jay z album and that's part of why I love these reviews cause all of the diffrent opinions brought to the table, keep it up!
