A German car on Spanish plates in France being filmed by an Englishman who lives in Wales being watched on an American website by an Irishman in Portugal.
@6:43 That's Saint Sulpice church, where I lived a few hundred meters away from in 2000 and 2001. @6:57 That's the Notre Dame being rebuilt agter the fire.
Love your first spot was a W123 300D, still miss my 1977 one but I was too poor to afford the amount of welding it needed while also restoring a 1966 MG Midget. You do the travelogue thing so well 😊
I adore Paris, my fondness for it is second only to my home city. I'm really lucky to have a close friend who lives there as he's saved me a fortune in hotels over the years! I'm going again in the next couple of weeks for the new Paris Métro extensions, hopefully the Citroen Conservatoire is still open while I'm there
I’ve been to Paris several times and I know all the places you’re showing to us. When visiting friends there I always jumped in the RER train in Aulnay-sous-Bois to get to Paris… Thanks for the pictures, Ian. They bring back good memories. 🇫🇷😊🇫🇷
Nice one Ian, it's been at least a couple of decades since I went there. Unfortunately that was a work trip but I did get to wander around for a while. I love the place. Amazing character and the food was off the scale. The group I was with ate at places recommended by our French colleagues so were a down side streets away from the brightly lit touristy bits. I hope to go back at some point to see how things have changed as 20+ years is a long time. Once thing that stuck in my mind that nearly every car was dented, even brand new cars. Many thanks for sharing.
"Obviously we've got people of all nationalities here...even Americans." Yup. My wife and I lived and worked there for 7 months leading up to the opening of Disneyland Paris in 1992.
Technically, the Sacré Coeur is a basilica, not a cathedral. Don't ask me what the difference is, I've no idea. Either way, it's a great place to visit.
I'm Australian so I should have seen Moulin Rouge by now since it was made by and starred two Aussies but I never bothered. But because of your little review, I'm now interested in seeing it.
That Metro station in the middle of Blvd Rochechouart is Anvers. Blanche station is near the Moulin Rouge. A metro from either will get you back to Gare du Nord avoiding the "scenery " of Pigalle. Maps of Paris with Metro and RER guides are free and very handy!
It's the taxi you mention after commenting on the padlocks. BTW - my first car was a 1978 Canadian-spec W-123 230; was 22 years old with 62,000 miles on the clock when I acquired it.
That walk to the Cathedral - Sacre Coeur - has a fair amount of uphill in it. Nice view to appreciate while you get your breath back though. I'm sure, when I was there in 2020, there was a proper old school garage with petrol pumps on the street, just a bit up the road from the Moulin Rouge on the other side of the road. It's a great city to explore on foot
I don’t know what the crazy thing was, but the best view of Paris is from the Tour Montparnasse, mostly because from there you can’t see the Tour Montparnasse. 😉
Hello Ian. I lived there during 15 years. Anvers square, Rue de Steinkerque, Rue Lepic, Rue d'orsel. 😊 I had during this : a Fiat Panda, a Lancia Ypsilon, Fiat Barchetta, 406 Coupé, Jaguar XJS Celebration and a X350 PFC8 at the end. So much memories ❤
Went to France 3 times: 1993, 1995 and 1996 with school/6th Form. Remember visiting Montmartre and walking up all of those steps but I cannot remember on which occasion it was. I got very excited when I saw a black Citroen DS. 😍 I think that might have been in Rouen. First time that I have ever seen one in real life.
What you said about the vibe in Paris, every European city I've ever visited has that same laid back feel, almost like everyone is on holiday. Went to London for the day last month, felt incredibly frantic, like everyone needed to be somewhere else.....immediately!! Something is wrong with Britain in my opinion. We need to chill! Very jealous of that sandwich by the way - French bread and chicken curry, heaven!😀
Worked at the Paris Expo in 2016, I was based in the 15e at Balard. Went back there for holidays 2017 - 2019. Loved it - the heat in 2019, not so much. I wonder how much the prices have gone up/will go up for the Olympics though? I doubt even Mme. Hidalgo can stop that.
David of the wandering turnip channel also was in Paris recently and was also pleasantly surprised by the low amount of empty shops/ retail spaces, he was told ‘don’t go there is just like London’ well at least the central part of the city was better.
Nice bit of framing on the Eiffel Tower, given its' historical, and present day, use as a transmission tower as well as being a tourist attraction, sits perfectly with the old aerial mast there, even if it looks like someone cut the wires off at somepoint... :P
Pardon mon double-post, but it just occurred to me what a good walking tour guide you would make. Hubnut Walks the Hub, sort of YT channel ...including street food highlights, perhaps!? Record in the summer, release when we're all pining for sunlught in the winter...
Amazing architecture ive never been to France as was always scared off by the bad news stories which i wont go into as lets keep things positive , The Weird square block on that building was weird definitely Star Wars inspired and the Eifel Tower looks small from there lol
@@caw25sha LOL thanks for the info and yeah knowing the Londoners we would have called it the Dido as sounds naughty but its named after a famous singer lol
My most favourite city in the world, beautiful 😍If you go again there is a great restaurant called Etoile Verte (the green star), Rue Caplat, 75018 Paris, had to queue to get a table but was great food.
I went to the Moulan Rouge with sister was actually amazing. I was dragged. I wanted to stay in the museum and the louvre. Got to see some botticelli art and engineering at theMusee de metiers i was happy. Sister was too scared to go up the Effiel tower but I went. The French made me laugh with their pragmatic attitudes. Perfectly suited me being an artist and mechanic.
I live 4.5 hours of driving away from Paris and still haven't been there. It's planned for April 2025. If by then the world still turns, I'll get to see Paris. Nice (...) to see you enjoying yourself! Bonne Journée!
Nice that you can still find older cars around Paris, often displaying extreme panel damage the Persians are famous for. I love the way its pretty normal to still see 90's cars as daily drivers around France and older stuff is not that uncommon. I thought their low emission zones would have killed this off, though I was recently told the French get round these laws by generally ignoring them as its only enforced by spot checks rather than cameras so the odds of being fined are pretty low.
Thanks Ian gave me a good laugh that did oh he says doesn't look too steep ha ha last time I was there took ages to get halfway mainly due to the number of tourists and the fact that my hillclimbing ability is somewhat reduced having reached the Fountain I sat down for a rest and regretted it what with all that running water and then the heavens opened three minutes of rain like I've never seen however by the time I actually made it to the top I dried out some more .
Apparently, it's an offence to take photographs of the Eiffel tower at night. Not sure if it's true, but as an art student I took a few pictures of it when there in the Eighties!
@12:13 Basilica of Montmartre. C'etait un Rendezvous! The end location of possibly THE petrolhead movie, A 1972 film, only just over 8 minutes long, with a fake soundtrack, but so evocative. Hubnut goes to Paris! Is it actually nice? is probably the most British title ever of a video. More generalised: "British citizen leaves the island, would there be civilisation on the other side of the sea?"
Lived in the 11th arrondisement for 1 year. 1997. Near place de la Bastille. It was OK-ish, i guess. But i was there for work, not pleasure. Also a time of terror threats. Bomb attacks on metro stations, police with Uzi's on the border. I saw the movie La Haine in Paris. That movie shows the reality of the banlieux. Depressing.
Paris is more than just a city, it’s the epicentre of a whole civilisation. It’s not necessarily nice to everyone and for everyone, especially these days. It used to have place for people with ordinary jobs and businesses and average incomes - not anymore. But there are a lot of nice remains of a rich history, and there are always interesting new things coming up. There is literally something for everyone, but you need to know what you look for and find out where to find it, if you depend on sheer luck, the surprises can just as well be awful as they can be nice. It’s the same as for every big old city - only more so.

Imagine taking Elly on the Champs-Elysees!! Those tiny plastic Eiffel Towers looked like excllent value
As the song said "one night in Paris is like a year in any other place" . Still the most beautiful of cities to visit despite the tourist hordes.
Yes really liked that mini tour of Paris.
Thought you would have mentioned 'C'etait un Rendezvous' whilst at Montmartre
What about the Place du Tertre as well? Famous for artists painting your portrait.
I visited the Sacre Coeur 50 years ago when I was 12. Was with my parents of course.
Love your first spot was a W123 300D, still miss my 1977 one but I was too poor to afford the amount of welding it needed while also restoring a 1966 MG Midget.
You do the travelogue thing so well 😊
Is Paris actually nice? Well if it is, you've taken a wrong turn exiting the Tunnel and gone several hundred kilometres too far 😂

I was in Paris last week after a DDay tour. I went to St Sulpice on Sunday morning. Small world!! Glad you enjoyed it @HubNotes
That sandwich looked amazing 😊😊
No need to apologise for enjoying your self Ian. Thanks for sharing your trip

that´s lovely!! You should do more travel vlogs :)
Great Video Ian love the change from usual car caper videos, well done on the climb to the cathedral, locks are love locks normally on bridges
There was a bridge in Paris with so many locks they had to remove them because they were too heavy.
Can't wait for the Collab with Tim Traveller
Always wanted to visit Paris, maybe one day with the good lady wife.
Great people like you, Ian, make Paris even better.
Nice walkabout, your lunch did look delicious. 👍
6:44 is the Saint Sulpice church, I believe. It was one of the locations in Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code.
Basilica Sacre cœur.
I find that whatever food may be bought in France is always expected to be tasty, even just baguettes etc.. 😋
Thanks Ian,enjoyed that.
My dear late friend & I were planning to visit Paris never did get there. My visits to France has got me as far as Calais. Great video Ian thanks.
let me guess, beer shopping?

Spanish number plate on that W-123. Toyota Mirai taxi - an interesting choice for a Parisian cabbie.
Didn't spot that. Maybe it's how he gets away with parking it in Paris...
It's the taxi you mention after commenting on the padlocks. BTW - my first car was a 1978 Canadian-spec W-123 230; was 22 years old with 62,000 miles on the clock when I acquired it.
1982 was the last time I was in Paris . Ran up the stairs, full of youthful vigor. Those days are long past. Nice video Ian
another great video has always Ian and Carly miss/mrs hubnut and hublets and hubmutt 👍
Tres bien. Merci mon ami
In Paris you can buy a wonderful chicken curry baggette, there is seatting for people to eat their lunch. In the UK we have Greggs and winos.

Brilliant video, sir ! That baguette would have been right up my street 😃
It’s meant for your mouth, not up your street.
@@hedydd2 lol I honestly didn't intend any innuendo ;-) But I kinda wish I hadn't written it now ;-D
It must be nice because the Olympic Games are about to start. Thanks for this tour Ian.
