This is the third tutorial for the German Twisted Cast On I've watched tonight, and yours is the first that explained the part about taking the finger yarn through the "little triangle." That turned out to be the part I had been missing while I was trying to follow the other tutorials. I am most grateful to you for explaining this so well. Thank you so much!
Neshnyt Jackalsson TRUE!! I have never been able to figure that out!! I'm making my first top, and I didn't want to have to start over after 100+ cast ons only to find out I'd run out of yarn!!!
I watched 3 different tutorials before I watched this one. I just couldn't get the hang of it until you explained it in a step by step way. Now I got it. Thank you Johnny, you're the greatest
LOVE this video! I watched about 4 others on same topic and it didn't click, but I followed this one so easily. And the tip about how to measure the yarn to estimate how long of a tail is a game changer! Never again will I cast on 100's of stitches to run out of yarn. Thanks so much!
Excellent video! Thank you for the clear visual and explanation. I'm glad to get rid of the slip knot 'knot'. I've been knitting for 40 plus years and have never seen this C/O. Nice hands too. I'm an artist so hands catch my attention.
Great video! I use your vids in my knitting classes and recommend your Stitch A Day emails to students and knitting friends. Score one for the good guys! Thank you!
I'm a new knitter who started knitting a month ago, and I find it really helpful to learn a resourceful from this channel. Thanks, John for the good skills and the funny dance at the end! :)
Thank you so much for the bit about how to measure out enough yarn for the tail! That is the one part about knitting that delays my projects and makes my super frustrated. It seems so simple, you'd think I would've figured it out already, but I think I just needed someone else to explain it in detail. Thank you!
Always come straight to your videos for a refresher on a technique. Had to comment this time and tell you I literally LOL'ed at your end dance. Your face was just to much! 😜
your videos ARE AMAZING!!!! I have improved so much thanks to you. Please keep making them as from now on I will look for you for every knitting question :)
Wow, I just found your channel. Loved your tutorial and really like the extra tips you give a long the way! You explain the reasons for doing a technique really well, thanks! Oh, and I loved the dance! knit on!
Since learning this, I have used it exclusively for my cast ons. It gives a clean, professional and perfectly stretchy cast on. Now my question .. is there a bind off that corresponds to this? Thanks, Johnny, from another guy who knits!
Awesome video!! Love this channel and your videos have helped me on lots of different projects of mine. Your outro was so fun! You rock!! Thank you!!!!
One question, for this cast on does it matter which side of the yarn is on thumb (like is thumb the tail or the working yarn or it doesn’t matter)?? Thanks
+Jenny H This is random - I just saw your question after looking for this video. I love Jeny's Surprsingly Stretchy Bind off for toe up socks. www.knitty.com/ISSUEfall09/FEATjssbo.php I hope that helps if you haven't already found it.
For beginners, wood or bamboo needles are preferred that are large in size along with a thick yarn. The wood helps the stitches from falling off the needles when you first start out.
Ugh WHY must u WASTE our time? plus ADs too?? Passing seven min. mark & STILL waiting to see the casting on complete. Are these ppl in love with themselves so much, that they can't make ONE simple and QUICK instructions???
Nearly 4 minutes in and I'm still waiting to learn how to do this cast on. I wouldn't recommend this for someone with yarn in hand ready to cast on...far too much chit chat.
This video was really painful to watch. The explanation was just too slow, and the narrator smacked his mouth in a way that was difficult to listen to. I found another video on UA-cam that was much shorter and more succinct and I picked the technique up in a minute.
I have spent three days trying to learn this co. As soon as I watched and listened to you, I got it!! Thank-you 😊

Patricia Carter ditto!
The bit about measuring how much yarn you need for the long tail ALONE made this video worth it. Thank you!
Neshnyt Jackalsson TRUE!! I have never been able to figure that out!! I'm making my first top, and I didn't want to have to start over after 100+ cast ons only to find out I'd run out of yarn!!!
Okay this is the first video of this technique that I was actually able to follow! Many thanks
Thank you for this left-handed tutorial. I've cast on my 140 stitches. No problem. Thanks again.
I watched 3 different tutorials before I watched this one. I just couldn't get the hang of it until you explained it in a step by step way. Now I got it.
Thank you Johnny, you're the greatest

Thank you for your step by step instructions!! And for going back and looping original the opposite way!! I kept dropping that!!
Happy to help!
Very happy, it was told the good words to understand this Cast on. Thanks
That little Triangle did it! Thank you, I was lost by other vids👍

I watched 3 other videos of this stitch before finding this one that finally explained how the yarn was going in the last move. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Brilliant, the clearest description I've found for German/Norwegian cast-on. Thank you
This video was so helpful. It is the clearest instructional video on how to do a stretch cast on I have seen. Thank you!
Wind the
thank you! I almost gave up re-learning this CO, but you saved me and my sanity :)
I learned how to do the CO and had a nice laugh at the end as you danced away. Thank you.

This is the cast on I learned at 8 years old. Nice video.
Excellent video! Thank you for the clear visual and explanation. I'm glad to get rid of the slip knot 'knot'. I've been knitting for 40 plus years and have never seen this C/O.
Nice hands too. I'm an artist so hands catch my attention.

Since learning this, I have used it exclusively for my cast ons. It gives a clean, professional and perfectly stretchy cast on. Now my question .. is there a bind off that corresponds to this? Thanks, Johnny, from another guy who knits!

Wonderful cast on. I won’t use the long tail cast on any more!!!!!,
love your videos. can you do one on how to knit socks. I'm having a tough time
Thank you. Excellent instructions. Link to guide is broken though.
One question, for this cast on does it matter which side of the yarn is on thumb (like is thumb the tail or the working yarn or it doesn’t matter)?? Thanks
The thumb is the long tail side.
is there a matching cast off to this pretty cast on? If so can you direct me to it? Thank you for the help!

what needles you prefer for beginers wooden or metals??

Hi. Your link no longer works.
Yes, drop your thumb, why try to pass through a tiny triangle, some viewers are beginners , best to keep it simple
I can't tell if your using the length of yarn or the "ball" yarn. Usually your very good, this one not so much.
What happened to you, Johnny Vasquez?
Still here. Gearing up for new content soon. ;)
So glad to hear that! You did so much for the knitting community...
I'm sorry, but this was the most confusing cast on directive I've ever tried to follow😥
Is much easy Way to do this stitch. You doing to much twrsting
Ugh WHY must u WASTE our time? plus ADs too?? Passing seven min. mark & STILL waiting to see the casting on complete. Are these ppl in love with themselves so much, that they can't make ONE simple and QUICK instructions???
Too much talking. Just SHOW.
Nearly 4 minutes in and I'm still waiting to learn how to do this cast on. I wouldn't recommend this for someone with yarn in hand ready to cast on...far too much chit chat.
White on white on white on white makes for a useless, nearly invisible presentation.
This video was really painful to watch. The explanation was just too slow, and the narrator smacked his mouth in a way that was difficult to listen to. I found another video on UA-cam that was much shorter and more succinct and I picked the technique up in a minute.
I agreee -- too much talk, not enugh showing how.
Thanks so much for this tutorial!!!
