    Where have you been all these years I’ve been knitting?!?! I’ve been doing the German twisted wrong, and not realized it (only getting one twist in, not two)! This is really a great demonstration; thank you, thank you, thank you!😂

    I have used twisted German cast on for years and have tried casting on in pattern numerous times. Thanks to the clarity of your instructions, I discovered how to locate and bring the yarn through the triangle instead of moving my thumb! I have always done the twisted German knit cast on using the triangle method because it’s much faster for me and keeps my knitting much neater. I just found the same to be true of using the triangle method to cast on in German twisted purl stitches. In almost all of the videos I have watched other peoples’ hands doing twisted German cast on, I have noticed that the hands have more flexible joints or are double-jointed, whereas my hands do not have that kind of flexibility at all. Moving my finger around is torture to me, but pulling the yarn through the triangle is easy and very efficient. I have never seen a video using the triangle method for the twisted German purl stitch, but you video encouraged me to look more closely at the possibilities. Thank you!

    Patty, I was struggling and a knitting friend passed on your brilliant video. I am a dedicated toe up sock knitter and trying cuff down for first time. Was just about to give up until I watched your fantastic video. Thank you so very much for such clear instructions.

    Hands down the best German twisted cast on tutorial so far that I've seen, very clearly explained on the construction of the cast on, and very logical, now this cast on makes sense to me more. Thanks for the tutorial! Keep it up!

    I love how you showed this stitch technique. Slowly, and also showing how when doing the purl, the twist, and then showing the full method! Excellent! I had never seen how to cast on the knit method and purl method in the Old Norwegian Cast On!

    I love your tutorials. As a left handed knitter I have pretty successfully reversed instructions for 60 or so years. Some variations on cast-ons and bind-offs like this one I would like to see for left handed Knitters.

    HI Patty, thank your for your tutorial. Just wondering if you have a tutorial to bind off to matching this German cast off. Thanks in advance.

    • @PattyLyonsKnitting
      @PattyLyonsKnitting  2 роки тому

      I think a double crochet bind off matches really well. I teach that in a live class. I haven't filmed it yet. I'll be filming a WHOOOLE bunch of videos next year to build a library of free (No ads - grrr you tube) on my education platform: education.pattylyons.com/. You can set up a free acct and join the knitting community group there and find out all the new info.

    Thank you! This was a very nice, clear explanation of the cast-on, especially in-pattern. I just wish the audio was better. I really had to crank up the volume to hear you. I see that you posted this three years ago, but if you can edit the video to boost the audio, that would make your tutorial outstanding. :-)

    • @PattyLyonsKnitting
      @PattyLyonsKnitting  6 років тому

      Sorry about that. The volume is fine on my laptop, but all computers vary. It is an old video and not shot with my current equipment, however, You Tube has removed the feature where you can edit sound after a video has been posted.

    Hello and thank you so much for this tutorial! It helped me learn the German Twisted cast on but also gave me a better understanding of how the long tail cast on “works” - the anatomy of the stitches. My question is this: when I use the german twisted cast on in a 2x2 rib pattern and then join in the round for my first row, the knit stitches in the cast on are very tight and appear to be twisted. Is this normal? It is very hard to tell if they actually are twisted - the legs are basically equal. The pearl stitches are much better and I don’t seem to have this problem. Is it a result of me doing something wrong in the cast on? Any guidance is appreciated, thanks!

    • @PattyLyonsKnitting
      @PattyLyonsKnitting  2 роки тому

      The cast on is working the first row and these stitches are mounted Western (leading leg in the front). Are you an Eastern or Combo knitter who works the knit through the back loop? I can point you to some classes that can help.

    • @kelseyjohnston4965
      @kelseyjohnston4965 2 роки тому

      I always have the leading leg in front so I guess I am a Western knitter. I have knit a couple of other samples and I think my problem may be that my cast on is too tight. I will try again. Thank you for the quick response!

    Great cast on and easy to use after a few "oops". General question, tho...do you count the first twist on the needle as a counted stitch? If so, then to follow most patterns for k1 p1 ribbing..would your first cast on be a purl? (New knitter, here)

    • @PattyLyonsKnitting
      @PattyLyonsKnitting  4 роки тому

      The first loop is a stitch. Every pattern is going to be different. Some patterns start with a RS row, some with a WS row. Your first twist will be whatever the first stitch is. Just because I demo making a k as your second and a p as your third, doesn't mean you have to. So you can cast whatever row 1 of your pattern is. To learn more about sweater knitting you can join one of my video sweater classes - www.ravelry.com/bundles/video-classes
      I also have many video classes - pattylyons.com/classes/online-classes-2/

      There are sooo many, but a simple variation, that will create a stretchy cast on can be found in my cast on and bind off playlist.

      UA-cam has a volume that's separate from your computer. Try turning the volume all the way up on both your computer and your youtube. If you still can't hear, you can turn on the subtitles.

      Thank you very much for taking the time to help me overcome my problem. I have tried to turn up the volume on UA-cam but there is no way I can see to do this on an iPad. I googled instructions how to do this but I only saw it being done on Windows where the screen had an icon you could click on but it is not there on the iPad screen. Thank you once again for your help. I like the video by the way👍
