TF2 is one of the most consistently played games on Steam, it has more players than most games that are a year old nowadays, and it's been out for more than 10 years.
The game came out 13 years ago and was a smash hit although it has slowly slowed down for a game of it's age it's still moving along strongly and isn't dead.
I'd argue Team Fortress 2 was actually pretty huge from 2010-2014, but once Valve slowed down on the updates and new animated shorts, people became less interested and more advanced games like Overwatch came around to compete with TF2. The game is basically on life support solely from the community itself.

Tbh tf2 is still alive, we still get new players a lot and the community is nice with providing help, in 2019 it was even close to reaching its prime numbers
400k for 12 seconds is a lot today, but, keep in mind, tf2 takes place in 1968. so first we take 400k in 12 seconds down to 33.3k in 1 second. 33.3k in 1968 is roughly worth 250k today. it costs $3,000,000 today to fire Sasha, for 12 seconds
continuation on Nighthawk's comment: -Heavy has a PhD in Russian Literature, which has a saying that the bullet is the dumbest in the battlefield -In the TF2 universe, New Zealand was sunken due to the Sniper's father "foreseeing" a catastrophe, meaning they sunk it, he later had another prophecy, in which he demanded that they now launch NZ to space, but because they didn't have money, it wasn't done, and his dad had built a spaceship for himself to escape to orbit, but because of a fight between of both his father and mother, a baby Sniper got in it, which flooded NZ as a consequence, the rocket malfunctioned and he crashlanded near the house of said Aussie farmers -Both the Engineer and the Medic have worked toghether in projects, one of which was the cause of the debacle of Expiration Date -The Scout's father is the Spy, he also bought a bunch of Tom Jones' memorabilia -The Demoman's family tradition is for descendants to be put on adoption when they're born, so that once they develop their family trait, which is making explosives, they adopt them back -The Demoman's adoptive parents were killed when he fought the Lochness monster when he was 10 -The Soldier has the lowest IQ of them all, and subsequentially, can't read -The Spy knows he's the Scout's father, and in the comics, as well as with interactions with Miss Pauling, the Administrator's secretary, has been shown to want to destroy any possible DNA tests that may invlve himself, like reading a book on How To Beat A DNA Test -In the comics, the Spy confessed to Scout he was his father while disguised as Tom Jones -The MediGun the Medic uses in that video, later became part of his loadout, but didn't have an Übercharge. Why? Because it had a short-circuit when doing so -There's a cosmetic called the Pyrovision Goggles that let you see how they see when put on, meaning other players when they explode into pieces, they explode with confetti instead of blood, and it's gender has become a gag within the TF2 team, like how the Scout asks "He's not here, is she?"
It's an old game at this point, but I'd call it an ageless classic. I'd call a game dead when you're having trouble finding a game, but I still play this daily, it has a large fanbase and I've yet to have any trouble finding a game to join. In fact, most games are pretty full, so I don't know where this "dead" nonsense is coming from, aside from people's subjective perceptions.
My favorite part of these reactions is people laughing at the yo mama joke and then immediately laughing even harder when they see spy brought evidence
them "team fortress 2 is actually dead now" me "laughs in 13 years and still steams highest daily player base in all honesty though i enjoyed watching this video
Although I did pretty much abandon TF2 once Overwatch came out, according to Steamcharts, the player base has diminished a little bit, but it still has pretty similar numbers to what it always has.
TF2 took off really well, it's been around for over a decade with active players, it's only recently dwindled because Valve doesnt update it anymore. You should watch Expiration Date
Tf2 is almost 13 years old and was ahead of its time. It's still a pretty popular game today although not as popular as before. It inspired a lot of modern team-based shooters like overwatch and paladins. there is even an engineer skin in paladins as an homage to tf2. Overwatch's game director, JEff Kaplan said once that tf2 is one of his most fave games and he considers the comparison as "the world’s greatest compliment" this game is a classic at this point no matter how many people call it "dead", being a 13 year old game that is still playable is a feat to me. fun fact: the demoman and heavy were voiced by the same person. Gary Schwartz
This game used to be godly in it's ages, it had amazing player base and it was total fun and free. Every character had a loudout you could change cosmetics and stuff, absolutely not pay to win as you could buy only cosmetics with money.. lot of game modes but as do we say Valve are lazy developers who seek money, they kinda forgot about the game and when OverWatch was released the game died out completely as it is pretty much the better version of this kind of a genre. Valve released some small updates to it after that but nothing really serious. But still this game will have a free space in my heart as it is nothing like others, in many games today a death can lead to an instant loss, here in team fortress it was something you did not really cared about, you always played you role in your team and you enjoyed, especially playing medic and heavy which is an amazing combo and it is one of the greatest feels to be the lead push with guns blazing being invicible and just going...
I don't know about Overwatch being a strictly better version. TF2 feels a lot more well rounded and the characters feel a lot more dynamic. The game isn't dead either, still enough people playing it.
TF2 lacks of power creep which is great, many devs does not even know about and it ruins their games, overwatch was really slow at start same as league of legends, and as they kept adding new and new playable characters the game became fast and shit thing, some heroes are basically the same thing but better versions of older characters. TF2 is consistent you know what to expect from each character and there is no need to add more, every single role is being nicely balanced.
TF2 is actually still one of the most played games on PC. More than 50-60k players on a daily basis, which for a 13 years old game, is kind of a big score.
Most of those are idle accounts/ bots, from what I've heard. Still, a very active game.

I was always a Pyro fan, and it was a great day when that trailer came out.
Its good to know people are still watching these
This was really entertaining to watch, i absolutely loved this video cheers guys!
That guy in the middle had great reactions to the videos
13:24 that's how deadringer works darling
1:12
Fun Fact: Heavy said "Who touched 'sascha?" Sascha is a nickname for Natascha, which is the gun's name.
People who say TF2’s dead are either dumb or ignorant. The game still pulls in tens of thousands of players regularly. Far from dead.
19:04-19:59... AKWARD
The soundtracks are amazing btw
This is the reason I main Pyro
Lightning snake because you hate demos?
BLOODY HELL
Its 2020 and I still play it non-stop
Yea the game isnt anywhere near dead
The pyro trying to light the magazine on fire in the waiting room kills me
Oh man i've never been so early before :O YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME! i enjoy your OW and League of Legends reactions the most ^_^
Ah, all the memories :')
When the Pyro traps the Medic in the shed then burns him the Heavys words are very correct
Spy is scout's father
I am a simple man,I see people that like tf2,I subscribe
😂🤣-dave
Tf2 is the most oldest game yet not "*DED*" yet...im so proud
Like Super Smash Bros Melee. ,The game has been kept alive by the community .
continuation on Nighthawk's comment:
-Heavy has a PhD in Russian Literature, which has a saying that the bullet is the dumbest in the battlefield
-In the TF2 universe, New Zealand was sunken due to the Sniper's father "foreseeing" a catastrophe, meaning they sunk it, he later had another prophecy, in which he demanded that they now launch NZ to space, but because they didn't have money, it wasn't done, and his dad had built a spaceship for himself to escape to orbit, but because of a fight between of both his father and mother, a baby Sniper got in it, which flooded NZ as a consequence, the rocket malfunctioned and he crashlanded near the house of said Aussie farmers
-Both the Engineer and the Medic have worked toghether in projects, one of which was the cause of the debacle of Expiration Date
-The Scout's father is the Spy, he also bought a bunch of Tom Jones' memorabilia
-The Demoman's family tradition is for descendants to be put on adoption when they're born, so that once they develop their family trait, which is making explosives, they adopt them back
-The Demoman's adoptive parents were killed when he fought the Lochness monster when he was 10
-The Soldier has the lowest IQ of them all, and subsequentially, can't read
-The Spy knows he's the Scout's father, and in the comics, as well as with interactions with Miss Pauling, the Administrator's secretary, has been shown to want to destroy any possible DNA tests that may invlve himself, like reading a book on How To Beat A DNA Test
-In the comics, the Spy confessed to Scout he was his father while disguised as Tom Jones
-The MediGun the Medic uses in that video, later became part of his loadout, but didn't have an Übercharge. Why? Because it had a short-circuit when doing so
-There's a cosmetic called the Pyrovision Goggles that let you see how they see when put on, meaning other players when they explode into pieces, they explode with confetti instead of blood, and it's gender has become a gag within the TF2 team, like how the Scout asks "He's not here, is she?"
Why does the left guy look like he's in pain?
Existance is pain
People asking for Team Fortress 3, we all know that won't happen.
Now, Team Fortress Alyx on the other hand...
Rest in peace soldier (Rick May Tribute)
When referring to more than one meet the class video, we say meet the team.
Hypetrain:meet the blah blah blah
Valve:meet the blah
Tf2 is immortal
Why is everyone saying tf2 is dead its still full of life
THAT DAVE IS A BLOODY SPY sincerely, Tim-ham.
TF2 never dies.
"I'm a black Scottish cyclops!!" LOL
It's an old game at this point, but I'd call it an ageless classic. I'd call a game dead when you're having trouble finding a game, but I still play this daily, it has a large fanbase and I've yet to have any trouble finding a game to join. In fact, most games are pretty full, so I don't know where this "dead" nonsense is coming from, aside from people's subjective perceptions.
I heard that after HL release that would focus on TF2 source is from Tyler Mcvicker
The guy on the left looks like he's in a sand storm
"I am heavy weapons guy"
Everyone: *stronk laughter*
the game isn’t dead/dying, in fact last Halloween update broke concurrent player records on Steam
My favorite part of these reactions is people laughing at the yo mama joke and then immediately laughing even harder when they see spy brought evidence
The dude on the right looks like the human form of sawdust.
No harm intended.
the guy on the left looks like my warband character
Still holds up it's true golden masterpiece
them "team fortress 2 is actually dead now"
me "laughs in 13 years and still steams highest daily player base
in all honesty though i enjoyed watching this video
"Why not tf3?"
Judging by half life, valve can't count.
This video was made 3 months ago wow
heavy actually have a title in russian literature and others condecorations e really is smart
Been playing tf2 since beta, always brings a tear to my eye seeing the meet the team videos lol.
Although I did pretty much abandon TF2 once Overwatch came out, according to Steamcharts, the player base has diminished a little bit, but it still has pretty similar numbers to what it always has.
14:10 “that’s not the photo I was looking at”
500 nice reactions btw
Now you have to do TF2 vs Overwatch 1 and 2!! :D
The Demoman is saying "they got more monsters in Loch Ness than they got the likes of me".
Fun Fact: Under Engie’s glove is a robot hand aka The Gunslinger.
TF2 took off really well, it's been around for over a decade with active players, it's only recently dwindled because Valve doesnt update it anymore. You should watch Expiration Date
Don't worry mate they did. ua-cam.com/video/M4wtcneHgGg/v-deo.html
There needs to be a new Orange Box, Half-Life 3, Portal 3 and Team Fortress 3
5:26 am I the only one who thinks this quote is good?
Me: *saw this video*, Also Me: You're 8 years too late for the trailer and 14 years late for the game
Tf2 is almost 13 years old and was ahead of its time. It's still a pretty popular game today although not as popular as before. It inspired a lot of modern team-based shooters like overwatch and paladins.
there is even an engineer skin in paladins as an homage to tf2. Overwatch's game director, JEff Kaplan said once that tf2 is one of his most fave games and he considers the comparison as "the world’s greatest compliment"
this game is a classic at this point no matter how many people call it "dead", being a 13 year old game that is still playable is a feat to me.
fun fact: the demoman and heavy were voiced by the same person. Gary Schwartz
Rick May, the voice of soldier, recently passed due to the virus. May he rest in love and peace
And the half life alyx came
I don't know about Overwatch being a strictly better version.
