a good trick for doing that type of twinkly star is to take a dotting tool where the head is the same size as the center you want, then take a liner brush and drag it from the center of your dot outwards!
James if u dont like the way the pink tack looks under the nail u are designing. You can use the sticky tabs that ppl use to adhere press ons to stick them down. They are clear and work very well❤
OK James, here I am, love your enthuiasm. I took notes because I have lots to say, first, you can do this, do not give up!! Second, I have been a nail artist for a very long time and stars have never been the death of any of us, not even you lol. Get yourself a striper brush, it will help, do NOT breath when doing straight lines, ( old nail tech trick). For the star with more lines in it, make the circle first, then pull the lines out with the gel that's already there. Hope I helped!!!😊
If u find the pink putty off putting, try using those sticky adhesive tabs that some people use 2 attach press on nails. They're rubbish 4 holding nails on fingers but excellent for using on nail stands, was honestly a game changer 4 me, & no tacky residue left 2 scrub off back of nail. Let me know how u get on, I'd b interested whether u also find it helpful 😊😊
Finally got around to watching this and omg you may have gotten stressed but you successfully used a BUNCH of techniques, upped your star game, and got your beads in that swoop first time looking perfect. Your skill levels go up with every video you post, the nails always look 🔥, and I love to see it!
A good tip for u James, instead of the pink tack to hold the nail on the stand, try glue dots, they're clear and will do the same thing and then u can peel em off the underside of the nail once your done 👍🏼😀
I think you did awesome. A few people have already mentioned this, but for the stars (or any line work) go from the center and flick out. Just like how your brother describes doing a winged eyeliner. It makes the point thin and avoids over thinking it!
@@neophytenails Starting with a dotting tool for the center makes ALL the difference, too! Then use a detailer brush to flick each arm out from the center and fill in the curve between the arms and the center🤗
The old adage holds true: practice makes perfect. 👍🏻 Just keep on keeping on even if you feel you made a mess of things. We'll be here cheering you on. 🎉🎉
These videos are great because you're an amateur just doing it for fun which is a lovely vibe but because you're already on UA-cam the camera and editing quality is 👌👌
So proud of you for making this channel! I've already loved watching you b4. I've been doing nails forever and just practice, practice, practice. You would be suprised that when we think we can't do something and try it...it comes out a lot better than we thought! You did great! Give yourself more credit than you do!
i caaaan't believe the nail art evolve soo fast !!! 😱 for me it was stamping figures from scratchy designs from ali, put some metallic effect, matte or gloss, that was it... (born in '88👀) so impressed for your skills, you are doing amazing James 💜
The long fine brush is called a rigger in watercolor painting it was used to paint the fine sail ropes (rigging) on ships and even the best artists needed help with trembling, so I would maybe get a postcard size pad, a rigger and a bit of cheap watercolour paint to practice. You can also practice blooming techniques, fading in fact most nail artistry seems to be adapted from watercolour. The reason it might be good is to perfect the techniques by repeating easily without wasting nail after nail .
James, I just want to say I love watching explain your journey. Thank you for being so transparent and it makes learning a new hobby so fun. I get bogged down thinking I will never get better and then you post and I am like, look at James getting so professional! You can do it too!
This makes me smile. It's lovely to watch you. I've seen it mentioned already, but start with a dotting tool for the centre and drag the lines out for the stars 🌟 Good job James 😽
i so love watchin your journey! please keep sharin with us. 🥰 this set is gorgeous & i give you major props for divin in with your airbrush (i don't have the courage to try that yet 🙈) just two tips from someone with suuuper shaky hands (and pls forgive me if they've already been suggested, i'm too lazy to scroll lol) 1) if you don't have a long striping brush, use floss or thread. you can coat the floss with polish & then lay it down the length of the nail as an "outline." then you can go back in with a detail brush & thicken it up if necessary. just use the thread/floss as a guide for a straight line. 2) for multi-prong stars, use a dotting tool to place a blob, then use a fine brush & drag out your prongs from the center of the blob. only use the polish that's already in the blob, no need to re-load your brush with more product. that technique will also keep your design thin & won't add any extra bulk from additional polish on your brush; you're just "spreadin out" whatever polish is already there. hope that makes sense. ps -- welcome to "dogs barkin & other folks makin noise in the background of nail art tutes" youtube! you've truly made it! 🥳 lmaooo
I have such a hard time with fine details because of shaky hands. You did a great job with the fine detail though, and yes, longer bristles help on those brushes, I also like to focus on where I am going, rather than the brush tip. That seems to help a bit with straight lines.
im no nail expert, but i do paint. using a dry brush to straighten and sharpen lines right along the edge of the paint could help. you did such a great job.
That bluey color is gorgeous 😍 So I've definitely not done ombre nail art but I do paint figures! I've found that I get the best gradient by painting the whole section one color, sponging on the ombre color and then using a new sponge and the base color and going over where the two colors meet and just go back and forth between the colors until it's as blended as you like. Hopefully that advice can help you somehow haha 💜 love these videos James!!
Yay! I'm glad I can help! Also sometimes I find it helpful to water down my paint slightly for layering after I get the base gradient done to make it easier to blend, if that makes sense. I'm not totally sure how you "water down" nail polish but hopefully it helps! 🖤
Yesterday I was watching your Sailor Moon/Valentine's nails video and I was wondering, when there will be a new video, my voice was heard 😂 It's so nice and refreshing to see someone still learning and making high quality videos, we can be your cheerleaders 😂
James you did really well!!! You are too harsh on yourself, if you had done these for me I would be really happy with them! You are talented and should give yourself more credit! Love them! ❤
just me sitting here the whole time hunching over whispering like James can actual hear me, LOL. trying to whisper him some tips and coach him along! but i would so rock the sh*t out of those nails!!!!! you did good!!!!!!
More dedicated than I. I'd cheat and use a dotting tool or brush end for the stars' centre dot. The finished set looks very nice. Your sponge ombre was very well done too.
This is beautiful James! ❤️. I have an airbrush that I bought last year. Still in the box. I’m afraid of it. For the stars, have you tried a large dot with a dotting tool, then dragging each star “leg” out from the center with a needle or a thin brush?
Listen to the comments and get dotting tools of different sizes. Your stars are not bad for free hand however they will be way better with the dotting tool technique. 😁 I also started nails during lockdown. Lots of practice and lots of UA-cam will help you during your journey. Love that you started this channel 🥰
Hey, don’t know if you’ll see this, but a non-nail camera trick here to help with lighting/accurate colours on camera. It looks like your camera is set to auto-exposure and when your black gloves come into frame the camera sees all that black and brightens the exposure to average it out. Simple fix is to wear gloves that are a medium toned colour like your purple table. Anything but white or black. Hope this helps 😁 I’m just getting into doing my manicures so love watching this new content from you. I like that you’re using realistic length nails. A lot of nail content uses SUPER long nails, which aren’t realistic for a lot of people to wear. Of course with shorter nails you have less space so it’s more challenging, but I appreciate it. 🙏🏻
And those 4 pointed stars r done by placing a thickish dot in centre 1st, then take a long liner and using the gel from the dot just drag ur brush from the centre blob outwards. That way the tips of the stars points r much thinner than at the centre as the paint gets used up as u drag the lines outwards. Hope that makes sense, lol. Let me know how u get on, and pls just ask if i haven't explained that very well 😊😊
I'm loving the new channel, James! It makes me want to get back into gel but I acquired a sensitivity reaction to it. You mentioned that some Korean and Japanese gels are less likely to cause reactions. Do you recall which ones? Keep up the fun and soothing content! Don't fret about your hand-painting skills, dahling! We are here for YOU!
Hi James. so one thing i have learned ( from Kirsty Meakin) is that its very importend that the brush is full of polygel, meaning that when your putting on the colour, you have to swirl it in the colour, so every bristle is coted, that makes so the colour moves better off the brush on to the nail. And one thing I myself am guilty of is not practicing on a practice nail, and not the one I want to wear :) and well the other thing is just practis, practis and practis. Loved the video. thanks for sharing 💜
You definitely made that style of stars correctly. I’d only recommend you start your lines from the imaginary center and draw out so that all the lines taper at the ends. Then follow up with rounding out the corners as you did. If you really want the center to be more flat/filled you can start with a center dot and drag the gel out but it can still end up bulging a bit if you use too much product.
Yay love nail James! I think for the ombre color there wasnt anything particular wrong with your technique, but maybe the color wasnt right, maybe it just needed a little dot of black.
I'm SOOOO glad your channel popped up....i LOVE your videos and your voice. You're awesome 👌 and you're too hard on yourself but i guess it's true that we are our own worse critic.... love your channel though!!!
*Caviar beads Love your videos Also if you are still having trouble with chrome powder watch nail education(I think is her name) she just posted about any issues with chrome
These looked so good!! Also I think the issue with the color looking lighter on the camera might be from your black gloves throwing off the white balance. I know sometimes when there’s something really dark it tends to make other things a lot lighter to try to compensate and sometimes ends up with the lighter parts looking blown out. If you have auto white balance on this is probably your issue! It looked a lot darker when your hands were out of frame
For the star I agree with ye dotting too lol. And try to take the center line a bit higher. Not right in the middle. That will help. Loving these vids tho
Hi James, I love all your content! Im just curious is there something different about your audio lately? Do you use a different mic or so? But great video, again! Thank you.
🤕 Be careful that irritation can be the beginnings of an allergic reaction, I learned the hard way. It was the perfumes in gel polish, instead look for hypoallergenic brands.
Great stuff, you did a fantastic job, but please please do some research on the dangers of air brushing gels! You are breathing in something that can do irreparable damage and if you are already experiencing signs of allergic reaction it could prove devastating. Just imagine what breathing in the particles can do to you if you are already having issues with skin contact. No matter how many influencers you see doing it, air brushing gels is NOT SAFE. Take it from someone who had to close up their nail salon and switch carrers due to developing devastating allergies to gel products. 😢

I scrolled down here to say this same thing! 😁
Sooo true 😊
Yup!!!! I was about to comment this myself!! It's so much easier doing it with a dotting tool to start!!
Yeah! I was thinking the same thing. :)

You can also buy cosmetic sponges and cut them up to do the gradient. I love your channel and your work.
When airbrushing, or dabbing the blue… did you try curing it , and then adding another dabbing layer, to build up the colour like that?

Hi where do you get your diami tips from?
It’s better to use a Matte top for drawing because the gel doesn’t bleed! Also the aura can be done with eyeshadow
Ohhhhhh that’s a good tip thank you! Yeah literally just got a eyeshadow palette yesterday 😅
The “little silver balls” are called caviar beads ❤

I was just going to say the same. So much easier to get that taper.
These days, I'm a little less precious myself. ❤
Can we change the pink tack thing, its super distracting to the polish you’re actually applying.
Yeah I have white on it’s way! I got this clear thick tape but it was too sticky lol
Yay ! Love the content - super therapeutic to watch otherwise 🥰
