      And a year earlier, Kamen was directing orchestra on Queensryche's most successful single Silent Lucidity. I think Metallica was just following the footsteps. They saw that it worked with Queensryche so they thought it would work with Metallica as well. And it did.

      Well,here's another. Queensryche was opening for Metallica on Damaged Justice Tour 88-89 when they released Operation:Mindcrime, Queensryche's magnum opus. I think Metallica was very impressed and was probably keeping an eye on what Queensryche was doing. They saw how Queensryche went commercial on the next album Empire which came out in 1990 which is to this day Queensryche's best selling album (3 million copies sold in USA alone) which resulted in a massive worldwide tour.
      I think it's more appropiate to call the Black Album Metallica's Empire that otther way around.

      @@AndriyVasylenko: Speaking of The Black Album, there is at least one violin in "My Frrrrriend of Misery". After the second chorus, the guitars drop out, and the bassline continues. There is a violin holding a high A (first ledger line above the treble clef staff, or two octaves above the top line on the bass clef staff).

      @@AndriyVasylenko Rifles and shotguns are different types of firearms. Too keep it simple: Rifles shoot 1 bullet at a time. A shotgun shoots many pellets, or "shot," at a time. Their action usually works very differently.

    I think the intro to Wherever has a Danelectro electric sitar, not a standard sitar.
    Another thing I noticed is that the rifle used in The God That Failed was a lever action which can be seen in some behind the scenes footage.
