Listen to what this brilliant talking cockatiel can say

- Sunny is called The Talking Cockatiel Extraordinaire by his family and friends for a several reasons. One is because he speaks in an intelligible voice rather than with the more common squeaky and whistle-like voices that you typically hear from these sweet little parrots.

The eleven year old bird also has a very large vocabulary for a small cockatiel, which is also unusual. But his owners claim that what makes Sunny truly extraordinary is that he has a little basic understanding of language. He doesn't just mimic sounds and words like other parrots do. Unless he is prompted heavily such as in this video so he can he show off some of his speaking ability, he mostly uses his vocabulary relevant to situations that he is in and to give commands.

His owners say one of the most surprising things he's done is to regularly greet his owner with "Hi, Scott" rather than just repeating back"Hi, Sunny" to him. Nobody refers to his owner as "Scott" in the home when they say hi. He also won't say it unless his owner enters a room and never at any other time or to anyone else.

One of the many things he's done to use his speaking ability is to call the other birds in the home to him by repeating "comere comere comere" until they come. Because his owners have never had enough time to properly train him to say more than a few words or to train him to do tricks, they have no idea what he is truly capable of doing. His large vocabulary and the use of it alone with other things he does was mostly learned by himself. What is his favorite word? Touchdown!

My bird knows how to scream in my ear and poop
Lol same
😆😆😆😆
I wish mine would do that, mine just stands still completely silent I just got him and I'm getting a little worried
@@imapieceofsht2 since its been 2 months you probably realized this by now but it's completely normal for birds to be like that when you first get them, unless this is still going on 2 months after getting the bird there's probably no reason to worry
@@jedediahsabri6427 yeah it doesn't happen anymore, I even got him a female mate to keep each other entertained and energetic even if I'm not there
Now that bird picked a good human!

I still have my 31 years old cockatiel,he gets tired lots now and won’t trim his own beak,he stays in his bed until late also but he’s still doing fine.Him and his brother who died two years ago and was 29 years old live in a big aviary outside,so now I’m retired I sit in there with him now.😊
31 YEARS OLD? TELL ME YOUR SECRET
@@user-lh3fj3oz1u well he’s still alive and is 32 now even my neighbours who have lived next door for thirty years are amazed,so is my vet,but he looks real healthy whistles and watches videos of other cockatiels on my I pad I leave in the aviary for him every day my grown up children who I bought the birds for are now in their forties and even they say god it’s unbelievable how old he is.
@@user-lh3fj3oz1u aviary
Wow ! That’s so sweet! What do you feed him 😮
Yes, seriously, please, tell us your secret!!!!! That’s my dream 😮😊
My cockatiel whistles Low Rider, and says " How's my little baby huh"? Which makes my heart melt because that's what my father used to say to him all the time, and my father is passed now. My mother is also passed, and she used to yell at my cat " GET DOWN" when she would sit on top of the bird cage. At night when I cover the bird, I hear him say " GET DOWN" and then he rings one of his toys. So adorable and smart. He is 24 years old this year.
I love their rosy cheeks, they're so adorable & loveable. I have an Indian ringneck & a budgie.
Me to
I love indian ringnecks! I never had a bird but always wanted one.
I love it when cockatiels make the ❤️ heart shape with their wings. They are strutting around saying look at me.
We had two cockatiels. They have both since passed away. They were always saying things like my Brother's name. We, at one point, rented a two story home and we decided one night to sleep down stairs and our male cockatiel said good night.
RIP ❤️
Ooo so sad......
Aww that's cute
But sad in the same time
OMG 🥺
Rip to the little souls😔
So adorable, for a moment I thought there was 2 of them 😂
Me too 😂😂😂😂
Me three😂😂😂😂😂😂
This makes me miss my cockatiel Truffles so much. He died a few years ago at the age of 27.5. He couldn’t talk but had his own collection of sounds and whistles.
27.5 is crazy! You sure loved and cared about him.
Sunny is beautiful bird and gorgeous too
He´s very smart he mimics alot of things,my tiels only mimics songs as he hears them cause he´s like 10 years so he has alot of experience, but he´s pretty dumb next to this haha
Damn 4 years left
@@romanomed7467 they can live 25 to 30 years
@@tjheitor89 that's pretty impressive for a small bird
Love the 'bad kitty' and 'pretty birdy'. Sunny is a very charming bird.
My cockateil used to trick everone in the house by imitating a ringing telephone!😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂
What a precious, smart and talented birdee!! I have a 15 year old 'tiel named Punky Brewster (aka Pumpkin) who is multi-talented, also! Birds are the best!!!❤
My sweet cockatiel, Toby, flew out of his cage two weeks ago :( He also whistled La Cucaracha and said "what you doing?" Hearing your baby say those things is making me cry...I miss my Toby so much..I'm praying he comes back home soon..
My cockateil flew away in 2006 but two weeks later there was a teil sitting in the tree in the backyard. We put some bird seed out for her and she came and now we have her. Hopefully someone is doing the same for our dear teil.
@Bzake Unfortunately no :( A lady did call me because she thought she had found him, looked exactly like Toby. We went to go look at him and even though in my heart I wanted it to be him, I knew it wasn't. We ended up keeping him though and named him Pikachu. I just try to tell myself that Toby is safe and being taken care of. I hope he's giving someone else the same amount of joy he gave us 💚
@@The12diva12 People know they have a prize when they have somebody else’s Cockatiel that’s already doing great. I think it’s a hard thing for them to let them go once they might have their kids attached to them. I’m sorry for you
I’m so sorry about that 😔❤️🙏🏾
If you can, put his cage outside. Sometimes they will come back to it. I how your tiel is safe & makes his way home.
Thank you, Sunny----your video cheered me up and made me smile.
I miss my cockatiel called Lucky. He got spooked by my fathers revving lawn mower and flew out of my hands and I never got him back. Saw him 3 days later flying across the street and then never again.
He’s the cutest 🥰 so smart
Now, if you could get him to do that whistling bomb dropping noise while Onni's pooping on command, that would be epic. 💣
Absolutely gorgeous 🥰
Hahaha i love the bomb falling and the splat nosedive on his perch 😂 silly funny birdie!
He’s a joy ♥️♥️♥️💯 Love him ✅ Yessss, pretty bird indeed!
Love him! ❤
Sometimes I miss my cockatiels then I think to myself I love waking up when I want and not before the sun comes up.
I cover my two cockatiels with two dark sheets and they don't say a word until I uncover them in the morning.
This is Rebecca Stout! She has a whole channel dedicated to her birds. She's a wonderful Bird Mum!
This!
Not at all if she cuts his bird feathers
@@Nahualli_Yt some people clip their feathers for their own safety. Some birds need special care, and will not survive out on their own, so the owners clip their wings so they can't accidentally escape.
@@Nahualli_Yt I've seen plenty of channels where wing clipping is completely normal, for the birds safety.
@@gingersnap1996 I don't consider normal to cut kids fingers so they "cant hurt them self's", Well cared birds don't intend to escape because they consider the house as they territory. Any way clipping birds wings is cruel, my birds have they feathers untouched and they live and fly happily in my house, i cant train them to free fly because i live in a zone in which live many predators.
I’m getting a cockatiel on Friday I’m so excited 😆
How's the cockatiel?
How was it ?

so cute when sunny does the budgie falling sound and saying *dead budgie!* xD my dad had a budgie named *putte* (its Swedish) he was albino and he would do Everything with my dad(and the whole family) they would eat dinner together, do homework and all that. he would also go around saying *putte putte puttesnuttteennn* or *jag heter putte, jag heter putte* (Swedish for my name is putte! my name is putte!) sounds cuter in Swedish TBH xD :3
Lol I do everything with my birbs too
Hi sunny 😂😂😂
i love the "Hi sunny"
the bomb then the dead budgie🤣🤣🤣
Our Whiteface Spike sits on my head too, including in the bathroom, it's odd at first but you just get used to it. La Cucaracha is in his repotiore too. Sunny is gorgeous 😍.
Funny 😄
Ain’t no way man 😂😂😂😂
I like how the cockatoo In the back is like: hey If you wanna hear some clear talking than get me.

How precious!
as a child i had a cocketiel named Sparky who didint really "talk" persay, but mimicked sounds like the piter patter of rain or the sound of thunder...the only words hed really say without deliberate prompting were onomatopoeias like "Zap" or "boom"
Got all the Aussies
My dad wants a cockatiel.
So apparently cockatiel speech isn't so great, but the whistling is nice. I didn't know they could speak at all though before today when I watched another video about one saying peek-a-boo.
There is a channel called Alex the Honking Bird. Alex was (he died last year) a Cockatiel that could at least say "Hello, Alex!". His son, Dominic, is still alive, and he says "Hello, Alex!" As well.
@@theburrowrises8549 I've only heard them make noises, not speak. Interesting.
Hahahaha thats soo funny lol
The cockatoo in the back looking at the cockitiel:I want to murder that bird
A lot of people seem to think that cockatiels don't like to talk as much as other birds. But it seems like this one wants to talk so bad and he tries so hard, but his mouth is only physically capable of making certain sounds, no matter how hard he tries.
WOW,I had a female Cockatiel named Sunny,hand tamed,very friendly,and 💕 ng,but never learned to mimic...still very much miss her tho'❤❤❤
Your bird is so smart! I try and try to get mine to talk, but he’s nowhere close to what your bird’s saying and singing. He did become animated when he saw this video, though. Then he lunged at the screen! He’s not a fan of other birds. 😊
❣️❣️
One of my cockatiels used to go the laundry room with me. One day we were leaving the laundry when another resident was coming in. He said “who’s this?” I said this is Peewee .” Neighbor Hello Pee-Wee. How are you?” Pee-Wee “alright, how are you?” Neighbor pauses then “Fine” pee-wee”well What’s your name?” Neighbor jumps again and tells Pee-Wee his name. He was a very talented guy.
My cockatiel will be one year old tomorrow.
The La la la part sounds like me in the shower.😂
cockatiel supremacy 🤨3:32
god I have 4 cockatiel parrots and 2 of them sleep with their neck backward
its kind of a cute sight tho
Aye my bird is also called sunny
I'm a bit curious about the methods used to get him taking. I've had a little progress with my quaker bit the cockatiels have terrible even copying whistle it seems
He sounds like donald duck 😂
I’m trying to get my cockatiel to sing, it’s going pretty well so far already have part of pirates of the Caribbean down but in my opinion they sing more then talk lol
Please tell me howwww
@@ariqis make sure your bird is very comfortable with you. Spend loads of time with it and make sure y’all have a bond and it’s not just you. Then spend time constantly whistling little tunes to the bird and get him or her to mimic it after a few days, then you can start moving onto bigger projects such as that. Keep in mind not all birds mimic everything you do so don’t be disappointed if you don’t get progress!
He’s amazing! ❤
