- The look back on the past 20 years of Obsidian Entertainment continues after losing one project and is followed up with one of their biggest games yet with Fallout: New Vegas. Hear stories on New Vegas, Dungeon Siege III, South Park: The Stick of Truth, and even the canceled Stormlands in part two of this multi-part series.
Fallout New Vegas has insane replayability and a great story that always creates debates in the community meaning there will always be something keeping the games relevancy alive.
I bought the game back in 2010 on the Xbox 360 and then later bought the Ultimate Edition of it once it released. Fastforward to 2015 when I've finally gotten a good PC I bought it again but on Steam without the Ultimate Edition then later bought the Ultimate edition again. Now in 2023 I'm replaying it for the 25th time and modding it to improve the mechanical gameplay and bugfix. It still is amazing as I remember it back then.
A collective of 600 hours across all platforms and yet to 100% the game :) Would love to see a remaster in the future or a continuation on the story from it.
hi @akaKjell; would you mind sharing what do you think the most essential mods to run for "improve the mechanical gameplay" that you mention. I want to try it again after all these years but don't want to change quests, guns, npcies etc. Just a better user experience i think. I know there are lots of videos about it but i think learning from someone that tried these mods be most useful. Thank you.

I love almost every Obsidian game. Neverwinter 2, Alpha Protocol, FNV, South Park, PoE, Tyranny, Pentiment! They're so diverse, and every game has SOUL!

I like Outer Worlds but I'm mainly a sucker for fantasy stuff so I love Pillers and I'm really looking forward go Avowed.

20:10, him talking about Stormlands lay-offs and then seeing him almost crying, choking up... that got to me man. You can clearly see it weighing heavily on his conscience after all these years.
The veteran ranger is my favourite character design, and cazadores are still terrifying. Truly one of the best games (for me), and I still love playing through again every so often (and usually find something new!)

New Vegas is a complete master piece even with the bugs. The game is amazing and I’m playing it right now. Its my favorite game all time.

Finally more infos about Stormlands. I really wonder if that game will ever make a return, now that Obsidian is under Xbox, and that they give their studios more creative freedom.
It was largely rolled into Tyranny. So probably not.
Pillars of eternity has really turned into my favorite game of all time these last couple years. Really makes me happy it’s what saved obsidian
I still can't believe that Microsoft has Bethesda and Obsidian under Xbox Game Studios. Both of them make some of the best western RPGs and would love for them to come together and make a Fallout New Vegas 2...that's my future dream game on Xbox.

That would be cool. I hate to sound like an elitist though, but those studios were much different in the past. Bethesda has fallen off heavily IMO and they haven’t done anything favorable for the community in close to a decade other than provide them with the tools to make their own content and improve their games for them. Fallout 76 is a bastardization of the fallout franchise and nothing but a live service cash grab, and fallout 4 was just alright. A good shooter but devoid of the true RPG elements or story structure that make a great fallout game. They’ve been milking Skyrim since it’s release and even with the introduction of the creation club, they figured out a way to get their cut of some of the better mods from the community. And to many, even Skyrim is a lacking RPG to what the scope of elder scrolls games were in the past. I still think it’s great though and have many fond memories with it despite its shortcomings. But modern Bethesda has just become a hype/money machine for Zenimax and now subsequently Microsoft. And Obsidian’s Outer Worlds was cool but missing much of the magic of their older games, especially when compared to the original Black Isle Fallouts or new Vegas. I’d like to think that they could do something really cool together under Microsoft but a game like New Vegas was a diamond in the rough and it’s hard to imagine another fallout ever reaching that level. Now any triple A game that release have to be mass marketable and with the current trends in gaming the majority of gamers just prefer dumbed down or simplified experiences that don’t require too much energy or investment. We’ll see what kind of statement Bethesda makes with Starfield and I’m hoping it can live up to the hype. But I’ve been let down too many times by them at this point to have too much optimism for it. As for obsidian I just hope they go back to their roots while continuing to innovate their style. Sorry again if I sound like an elitist and I respect any differing opinions but I’d just love to see more old school RPGs combined with the modern technology we currently have. A Fallout new Vegas remake would be a dream come true

As a fan of Dungeon Siege and having finished all of them in multi-player, I'm pretty sure that even if you could make it better as a solo only game, lots of people would get mad because the lack of it.
You don't just pick a co-op franchise and make it solo only and not expect backlash
Dungeon Siege 3 issue, from my perspective, is not how multi-player works, but how we have just a few spells and skills when compared to previous games
My problem with DS3 is its only Dungeon Siege in name and light callbacks like the Kingdom of Ehb but other than that it really had nothing to do with any of the prior games
My main issue with Dungeon Siege 3 was removing the party-based element from the party-based franchise.
Fallout New Vegas has a special place in my heart. I love many games but New Vegas just has it all, and when you can play a thousand hours on a single-player game you know you love it. It's replayability is beyond any other bethesda game and the game is built so that you can be whatever you want to be and it just works. One time I just had an idea to be that insane cowboy, so I put all the points in Agility, preferred the VATS perks, put every level ups in Guns and there you had him. Was so fun to see him clean a room of bad guys with headshots. It made me feel like a real cowboy. And that's just one character out of the god knows how many I've made.
You guys really did knock it out of the park with new Vegas, dead money was an AMAZING dlc and I seriously hope we get to have something as good or amazing as that in the future, fall out new Vegas 2 or even new Vegas remastered would be a GAME changer and would go down as one of the greatest games AGAIN, come on obsidian take a hint from the sierra madre and BEGIN AGAIN!!!!
Dungeon Siege 3 could have had better chances without that number and a spin off name as they have done with Fallout New Vegas.
I'm glad the developers are aware of this and I hope these things happen less often in future sequels of our beloved franchises.

Thanks for your sincerity. I'm sure this is the best you are allowed to reveal about what happens when a complex game need to be reinvented for casuals.
That is the reason I'm starting to forgive Obsidian for ruining one of my all-times favorite franchises. I know that is not their fault, but man... it is. They could regret to produce a console game with a famous PC franchise. Or, insist to make a PC game, then ported (badly) for consoles as many other games, like Pillars of Eternity, which in consoles is almost unplayable, and no one cares.

I started out thinking I couldn't upvote this particular video featuring Dungeon Siege 3, but I'm glad to see you're acknowledging how much damage have caused the situation in which a dev is forced to convert to consoles, a tactical game with deep party management.

New Vegas was an absolute miracle of a game. In just 18 months, they managed to create a deep, player-driven RPG with thousands of hours of replayabilty, celebrity voice actors, amazing customization, and an overall purely fun game while fighting against an engine that was deeply flawed from the beginning and cost them what could have been a universally acclaimed release. Here’s to a sequel and/or remake! 👏🏻
Obsidian has come a long way, they have few bad lucks because of third party decisions but Obsidian endure.

Obsidian is one of my favorite Studio. Dungeon Siege 3 is the only game I did not play a lot of.
I really appreciate how candid this documentary series is -- especially the segment on "Stormlands", considering that Obsidian is now owned by Microsoft. Hopefully that speaks towards an open and sustainable relationship between the two companies going forward...
love you guys, keep doing what you do, make great games for another 20 years!
Holy crap, I honestly did not expect you guys to talk about Stormlands and how that went down with Microsoft. It's also interesting to hear directly from a developer just how disliked and screwed vision-wise Microsoft was with Kinect and 'all-in-one entertainment' design for the Xbox One, which confirms the internet firestorm that occurred in that era. At least Microsoft has done a fantastic job with Game Pass and overall value/3rd party support since.
On top of FNV and Stick of Truth, you guys have my deepest respect for being this candid. At the same time, I hope you vetted this honesty with some Microsoft contacts and higher-ups first!

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they topped it. Hell, Outer Worlds is better in a lot of ways. Just needs a bigger budget/more content.
The twisting head glitch terrified me when I was younger, It happened to me after I keeled everyone in the Kings gang, there was one guy left and his head just kept twisting. It was horrifying.

I would be so happy with Obsidian making a new Fallout game, but right now I'm looking towards Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2. Enjoyed Pillars of Eternity, Stick of Truth and The Outer Worlds a lot, want to try Tyranny this year.
Fallout New Vegas is the best Fallout for me and I always want a New Vegas Remake or New Vegas 2. Hope that it will happen in the near future, made by Obsidian of course.
The story of Obsidian in a nutshell is basically them lining up all this great stuff and then rolling a natural 1 at the worst possible time. They really are the unluckiest company.
I love New Vegas, but I mostly remember the launch because of the Steam cloud save bug eating my first 10 hour session and making me replay all of the Goodsprings bits again.
New Vegas will always be my favorite game ❤

New Vegas has such a STUPID amount of replay value it's insane. Such simple yet effective tricks were used in the quests that always made it seem like what you did had a serious impact on the wasteland. Not to mention the writing. My lord it is up there with the original Fallout games. Legate Lanius is easily in my top 3 Fallout final bosses with Horrigan and The Master.
And thank GOODNESS for the modding community to take an awesome game and sprinkle it with new features over the years. Truly one of the best games of all time!
Fallout New Vegas the greatest game ever in gaming history, change my mind. In the Fallout TV series only the fact New Vegas showing up in the distance with Hank, at the end of Season 1 made people going wet literally like myself. The atsmophete the story, the setting is a literal 10-10
Today you can play New Vegas with zero bugs and a lot of improvements thanks to the community of modders. Great game.

Dungeon Siege 3 was an amazing game I loved it! It may be an unpopular opinion but definitely one of my all time favorite games!!
I think it was a fun/good game. Just kind of weird being associated with Dungeon Siege and being so different, still a fun game tho.
Sadly, I even couldn't played it, maybe I would love it but I will never know because the Dungeon Siege name made me expect another thing. It is like you buy a new game named Age of Empires 5, but when you install it, you notice that it is a first person action adventure. Man... the name, wasn't it obvious? Why enterprises continue doing these things?

I have to say reputation for buggy releases or not. U guys at Obsidian are the last and only studio i preorder or buy games blinde from at all. Never got burned. Ther is allways at least one or two or more big things or minor details to love about any game.

My first Obsidian game was Outerworlds. I really love the world in that. Then New Vegas and what can i say that hasn't been said already? 10/10. My FAVORITE though are the Southpark games. I waited since a little kid with the terrible ps1 Southpark game for a good one and Obsidian made two!!

Fallout new vegas was one of the best games i ever played. This game needs a Remake or Remaster with the fallout 4 engine.

Whenever I want to introduce people to the fallout universe, I always suggest playing New Vegas first.

Not to be Mr. Negative, but Feargus saying that New Vegas "wasn't as buggy as people remember" made me laugh out loud. I'm playing through the game for the first time right now and it is, with zero hyperbole, one of the top 3 or even top 2 buggiest games I've ever played. On a more positive note...I still keep booting up.
