I felt the same way about Emma Thompson and Pierce Brosnan doing comedy

For me, Keira's best chemistry was Matthew Macfadyen, but with James McAvoy was also good, but not her best 😊

@@finarakhima1327 But their chemistry was completely zero in Anna Karenina as they were siblings in it.

@@zitronentee Why should be any chemistry between siblings? The context was romance. Pride and Prejudice was what I meant.

I never felt the chemistry between McAvoy and Knightley. I think the relationship was based more on Robbie wanting validation, that’s why he was attracted to her. Recall that she’s very cold to him up until the library scene.

The false hope that the story plays with is perhaps the most heartbreaking part of it. Robbie and Cecelia believe that they still have a chance if their love has survived so much. He writes to Cecelia from France, saying that he will "simply resume"....
"My story will resume. The one I had been planning on that evening walk. I can become again the man who once crossed the Surrey Park at dusk in my best suit, swaggering on the promise of life ... I will return, find you, love you, marry you, and live without shame."

The most heartbreaking movie I've ever seen... I watched it a week ago and it still won't let me go... James McAvoy is amazing here, his sad blue eyes, oh my god...

It's a stonker of a heartbreak what that film does to you. I don't think I've watched it more than once because of how things turn out being so sad. If I watch a Joe Wright film it's going to be Pride & Prejudice.

I cannot watch this movie. It breaks my heart. I need at least 7 years to recover. (Yes,I only saw it twice in my life.)

It’s awful what Briony did and I do feel for what happened, but I’ve always seen the other side to things….
Briony felt it was inappropriate and didn’t understand things the way adults would.
Also for the time, even though they were in love, it wouldn’t have been thought of as a good match, her wealth, rank etc.
It wouldn’t have been approved of and if they had chosen each other I don’t think it would have been accepted. Society was different then.

    • @abantikadutta1268

But the actual reason is that Briony was attracted to Robbie and jealous of her elder sister.

    • @blu48

The real tragedy is that Celia and Robbie were denied their own right to self-determination. Their choices were taken away. Robbie's literal freedom, the War literally destroying everything, even wiping away a chance for Briony to clear Robbie's name. The horrors of war.

The book and film were remarkable.
Certainly my favourite book and a top 5 film.
How you can say what you did is beyond me.
